As a result of our hard work over two months, most of the events went really well Everyone had an opportunity to participate in each event. The boys had great achievements in swimming on the first day As we never gave up for the house competition, every single member of the team did their best for every event Everybody was all together cheering and encouraging each other We never lost our courage and passion during the games. Not only representing Jeju, we represented our school and represented our house Mulchat On the last day of the games, during the Gala dinner, the winners of the trophies for each event were announced. PERIOD 9 EXTRAVAGANZA BENJAMIN JUN

Mulchat was up for a treat last week; the Year 9s had prepared a period 9 extravaganza.

A total of five activities were available- ranging from quizzes to puzzle art and video production. Each activity was received with amazing enthusiasm and engagement from all the members Here’s a short briefing on each of the activities:

House Puzzle Art

The puzzle art team produced two beautiful interpretations of the current Mulchat crest. Each member received a square piece of paper on which they drew a fragment of the crest, which fitted together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to form a mosaic-style piece of artwork. It was just the right way to show the unity and individuality of Mulchatians.

House Video

A group of Mulchat enthusiasts gathered to produce a video that introduces Mulchat to new members The group was divided into three teams, each of whom produced a short clip about house spirit, competitions and the values of Mulchat The clips were then compiled and edited, together with remarks and inter-clip introductions The video was then shown to the house during the Whole House Assembly, much to the enjoyment of students across year groups.

The Game Show

A message of thanks from the members of the Year 9 leadership team to every Mulchatian who engaged with each of the activities so well- it was another amazing Friday thanks to you Look out for the next large-scale extravaganza that we may host, and in the meantime, happy Easter!

Some of the members had fun playing games that the year 9s had prepared – ranging from ‘Guess the celebrity’ to ‘Words that start with ’ There was an amazing level of engagement, with Year 8s emerging victorious after an entertaining session of trivia The game show included an extensive range of subjects, accompanied by some of the loudest laughter the school has heard in a while.

INTERVIEWS TO YEAR 7S ABOUT THEIR THOUGHTS ABOUT HOUSE CAPTAINS

Grace Heydinger- Irene Yoon M7A

She had been a confident and kind leader. She always told us rules in sport competitions and always coached us to do her best. She has lots of passion in Mulchat and she helps us, without having any prejudice. It doesn’t matter when or what time we call her, she always answers us right away Thank you Grace!

Angela Lee - Irene Yoon M7A

Angela led Mulchat genuinely with her kindness and courage She showed her love and passion for Mulchat this year by working extra hard even though she’s busy with her academic work In addition, she cheers for every one of us who’s participating in house competitions even if she’s not involved in them. For example, she came to cheer Mulchatians in a cross country competition in harsh, cold weather even though she wasn’t actually participating I really want to thank Angela for all of the hard work she has done for Mulchat. Angela, you have been a wonderful leader for all of us

Terry KimRyan Park M7A

He showed great positivity and leadership in several important house competitions such as coaching younger year groups with sport competitions. He showed great kindness to all of us, which is one of our Mulchat mottoes. Terry had been a wonderful, kind- hearted leader for us Thank you

Stella Choi- Ariel Hong M7B

Stella encouraged everybody to be self confidentespecially in house singing and drama competitions She always motivated us by saying “We don’t have to be in 1st place and be perfect. The most important thing of all is to try your best and enjoy ” This encouraged us to be self confident and brave She organised important parts of drama competitions, such as bringing props for all of us and directing people and feedback Thank you Stella for your great passion for Mulchat

MULCHAT Y7 NEWSLETTER

SEUNGHYO (CHRIS) JEONG

Mulchat have not always been producing the best results in house competitions recently, but year 7s have not given up just yet Although they were feeling disjointed from the house in the beginning now, Mulchat Year 7 has gained a sense of trust in each other, and has learned to build teamwork Although they may be the youngest in the House (the entire Senior School for that matter), Year 7s have been gaining partial victories and strength this term.

Competitions this term included the house drama, rugby, netball, scrabble, quizzing, and chess just this Monday, and the year 7s have been improving through these competitions A lot of participation has been shown through Year 7, particularly in the swimming and House Drama, which had more Year 7 students than expected. Mulchat stood on the podium with 3rd place in the House Drama (congratulations for Year 7s in this production, Brian Lee notably playing one of the main characters) And although our rugby and netball standings were not great, standing at 5th place for both competitions, for Year 7s especially it was a learning experience, a reflective set of events that told us what our strengths were, and consequently told us aspects that we could improve on As of now, we are hoping that Mulchat Year 7s and KS3 produced great results in the more recent competitions regarding academics, such as the quiz, scrabble, and chess. One student in Year 7, has changed his views on the competitions through this term’s victories and losses. This person said that his views on the house competitions in Mulchat and their achievements have been “rather impressive”, and mentioned that Year 7s had gained more participation compared to last term. He said that the commitment shown by the Year 7s were “rather surprising” and “impressive”.

Great work this term, Year 7! Have a good two weeks of rest, stay relaxed, and get ready for another busy term of house competitions Don’t lose your courage, don’t lose your passion Have a fantastic Easter Break!

HOUSE DANCE

APPLE (YEWON) KIM

Mulchat house dance occurred on March 11th, following the preparation time of three days starting on March 10th when the stimulus was released. There was only a small amount of time, about two hours on Friday, four hours on Saturday, and six hours on Sunday. Our Mulchatians worked hard and put prodigious effort into it, and even though there weren’t any Year 11s, the lower year groups strived and made an excellent piece

The stimulus was Rachel Whiteread’s piece of their house Her sculptures are often read like riddles as they contain unnatural or even paradoxical elements – a room you can’t enter, stairs you can’t climb, and doors you can’t open Her monumental sculptures appear like familiar architectural forms, yet are devoid of

utility, leaving the viewer to simply look and consider the meaning embedded in plaster and concrete. Her works are subject to controversy, which was challenging to us who were supposed to create a dance piece of 2-3 minutes on this stimulus.

After researching, we found out that Whiteread has created a house piece where she had put cement inside, and peeled out all the covers of the house to only show the inside form

The people of France prioritized their privacy, so when Whiteread created the piece that showed the form inside of the house they felt uncomfortable, so the piece got distracted in three months We, as Mulchat, conflicted this into people's daily lives when they think about what they want to show to the public and what they want to hide. As everyone has a factor that they want to keep private, we tried to depict that as anxiety and compulsion As a house, the individual’s anxiety became a figure that made the individual conceal the parts that were unconfident - we were depicting every aspect of the anxiety itself

Our house was complimented on their creativity that was made apparent from our different approaches to this topic. Looking forward to the other house dance competition, house glee, we successfully finished this house competition and made favorable memories that will last long.

special thanks to ...

Yujoo Kim Y9, Apple Kim Y9, Shin Song Y8 and Melissa Min Y10 Minchae Kim Y10 who created this wonderful piece!

HOUSE DRAMA

JIHYO JUNG

On February 21st, Mulchat House participated in a drama competition that took place within the school The members of Mulchat House put on a spectacular performance that impressed the audience. Stella Choi and Gabrielle Oh, both in year 11, played a vital role in the house drama They created an intriguing and fascinating plot and directed the actors to present a flawless performance

The actors from Mulchat House actively participated in the lunchtime and break time rehearsals to prepare for the competition. They successfully memorised their lines and delivered them with confidence during the performance However, there were some issues, such as pronunciation errors, but the leaders actively provided the actors with feedback and made every effort to improve the scene.

The theme for the house drama competition was "rejuvenation" and "reborn " In the plot of Mulchat House, the main character Jack, who was born with a disability and wheelchair bound, experiences internal emotional difficulties and discovers his true self He is "reborn" as a new person, overcoming his struggles and embracing his identity The main character was played by Ernest Lee, a year 10 student, who delivered a captivating performance. Despite the impressive performance by Mulchat House, they came in third in the competition Nevertheless, the members of Mulchat House should be proud of their hard work and dedication to delivering a captivating performance in the drama competition

special thanks to..

Stella Choi (Y11)

Gabrielle Oh (Y11)

for directing this outstanding performance!

FUTURE HOUSE COMPETITIONS

HANJIN (RYAN) LEE

There are some highly anticipated house competition events upcoming, and they include house football, house volleyball, and sports day. We decided to hear what Mulchatians actually think about these events and why they are looking forward to it

House volleyball is indeed one of the most highly awaited house events: not only for the participants, but also for every other student of NLCS In Mulchat, we could hear the participants’ ideas of why our volleyball team this year is expected to draw the best results after all According to our current House Captain, Angela, has expressed her opinion about Muchat’s volleyball team this year, that she could see the members coalescing as a team under their strong house spirit while they were training The members are ardent as ever; I hope they do their best and bring good results

House football cannot be left off in the discussion of “which of the upcoming house events are anticipated the most?”. We Mulchat have a lot of talented individuals who can participate in House football throughout the house Football is also the most famous and loved sport in Mulchat, which will most likely make us stronger in the competition It is indeed exciting to see Mulchatians running in the field

The most grand upcoming house competition will of course be Sports day Sports day holds a lot of house points, so it would be important to win as many points as possible in this event. However, we do have talented sports players who joined Mulchat this year who can take part in running competitions, the most avoided events in Sports day. We are sure that these gifted individuals will bestir themselves on Sports day It won’t be a big deal if Mulchatians bond together and participate actively.
