WHITE CANE ENTERPRISE
White Cane enterprise is a group created to understand and raise awareness of the visually impaired. White cane is a tool used by visually impaired people to independently and safely navigate the world. It is also an international symbol that symbolises the independence and achievements of the visually impaired. The White Cane Enterprise has decided to donate money to an organisation operating a variety of support projects for visually impaired people in South Korea. While researching, we have found out that there are over 250,000 visually impaired people in South Korea and yet there is not enough support for them. As members of the society in which we live together with the visually impaired ones, we have thought that we should work harder to create a society where everyone, no matter if they are disabled or not are safe and have their own rights
protected. Through this donation, we felt very pleased and became proud of ourselves, realising how our act would have been helpful for people with visual impairment.
THE SOUND OF SILENCE
The Sound of Silence was a student-led performance based on the movie “The Greatest Showman” which was part of the Arts Festival 2022. Our team aimed to raise awareness of social minorities and further initiate continuous support for local minority communities from NLCS Jeju. Unlike other fundraisers and campaigns, we used the medium of performance because we believed that performing arts could deliver messages more powerful than a thousand words, enabling us to connect with more people. We believe this was proved to be true because our performance, which was essentially a collaboration of music and dance, became a meaningful experience for 60 students including year 8 through 13 and even alumni, many supporting staff, and more than 400 audience members. After thinking about how we could go beyond and exert a positive influence on local communities through our performance, we decided to fundraise and donate to the Jeonghye Rehabilitation centre to aid the local impaired community. While the spotlight is usually on the performers, we believe that every single person involved was crucial in making this project a success. It is most definitely a result of a collective effort of not only those on stage but also the unseen supporters such as the backstage crew, students who were part of the fundraisers, and supporting staff. We would like to express our gratitude to all those who helped us with our
SERVICES AT NLCS JEJU performance and fundraising. It is our hope that the positive power of art will continually be demonstrated in the coming years of NLCS Jeju. CAR WASHING
Hello, this is Seoheyon and Jeonggyoun, the previous leaders of the Peace Village Service team. Our team is a community service Bryant team of year 10 to 12 NLCS Jeju students passionate about serving people with special needs. Every Saturday, for about 2 hours, we visit Peace Village and do prepared activities such as English learning activities and recreations.
Due to COVID-19, we had to devise another action due to the quarantine period. Our team pondered about what we could do to help people in the Peace Village, and we decided to donate money to them. We then came up with a fundraising activity which was the “Carwashing Service” for teachers and employees of NLCS Jeju.
The reason why we started a “Car-washing Service” was because we wanted to raise awareness of disabled people in the NLCS Jeju community as well as to help disabled people to find their own feet. So we emailed staff members about the car washing service and what it was for every week to raise awareness and money for disabled people. Not only raising awareness among staff members but also recruiting members interested in helping disabled people term by term until the service team gets more extensive.
With members of the group, we first decided where to donate. We had a few candidate institutions and finally came up with the Peace Village and the Changam Rehab Centre
since these two institutions were near our school, which we could visit after Covid-19. Although every team member was not an expert in car washing, everyone exerted their most excellent effort on the fundraising activity just with the will to help disabled people.
After the donation, we felt highly overwhelmed with our outstanding effort, and love towards the service proved with the amount of monetary
assistance to the Peace Village and Changam Rehab Centre. Furthermore, we felt fulfilled that my attempt to raise awareness about disabled people in NLCS Jeju community had seemed to succeed where the result of our effort was announced thoroughly in the school assembly. Furthermore, we were proud of ourselves that we took part in helping disabled people to find their own feet.
Lastly, as the previous leaders of the Peace Village Service Team, we are incredibly grateful to every team member for exerting great effort and the current leaders, Joona and Doyeon, for exceptionally leading the group. We hope the service team will continue to exert its best efforts for the betterment.
HELLO MUSEUM
Our Hello Museum Team is a group gathered to give young children the opportunity to thrive the joy of collaboration and the creativity in art outside normal circumstances. We wanted to give kids a chance to show off their creativity and unique vitality, and thought it would be a good experience for them if we could combine this project with Jeju’s characteristics to complete a big picture. After setting these goals, and looking for an organization that fits our purpose, we found out that the Hello Museum provides an opportunity to let children know that art is something that you enjoy. After the donation, we were proud to provide children with a meaningful purpose to enjoy art more. This experience also led us to think that we should promote fundraising more to help society. JEJU DOLPHINS
Jeju Dolphins is a group aiming to improve the environment on behalf of the dolphins in Jeju island. It was founded by students of 2022. As students residing in Jeju island, our focus is on dolphins from Jeju decreasing in number. We strive to improve the situation for them through activities such as regular trash pick-up sessions and continued activities against littering.
This fundraising was done as the final activity by the Jeju dolphins. When the plan of holding a bazaar during Christmas fell out in 2020 due to COVID, the long awaited plan came to a sudden indefinite halt. Thanks to Mr Im and Mr Machin, I could successfully hold the fundraising this time. I wish to thank both of them on behalf of the Jeju Dolphins team.
Hot Pink Dolphins is a team dedicated to improving the lives of dolphins in Jeju island. They’re able to do more activities for the ecosystem of Jeju that Jeju Dolphins, as students, are restricted to do. I hope the small donation we made through the fundraising could be of help for their collective effort.
After conducting a fundraising myself, I realised that such an event needed the effort of many people combined. I hope in the future, I could be the person giving help to people wanting to do such inspired activities.
I give my sincere thanks to Mr Im and Mr Machin, the executive team of the school and my teammates for helping me throughout the fundraising.
CRAZY CHEMISTS
The Crazy Green Lab(Crazy chemists) founded by Yoonhee Stella Han and Yujin Eugene Lee, in the 2020-21 academic year, takes a look at the application of chemistry knowledge in various commercial products. Our aim is to provide beyond classroom experiences and thereby demonstrate how the figurative chemistry knowledge we learn in classrooms have a great scope of relevance in our lives. This summer we had the opportunity to run a very successful fundraising activity with lemonades and organic soap bars we made in our CCA. The total of 622,000W was donated to Korean Association for Children with Leukaemia and Cancer
Each day, five children are diagnosed with paediatric cancer of unknown cause. Though current medical advancements have the potential to save 80% of children if diagnosed in the early stages and treated appropriately, it has drawn attention that there are a number of patients who are unable to seek treatment due to financial difficulties. We hope that our donation could be a little bit of help in providing treatments and its allocation to those in most need. Throughout our academic journey, we hope to not only continue to practice the value of sharing and compassion but also share it along with further members of our NLCS Jeju community.

CULTURAL AWARENESS COMMITTE
The Cultural Awareness Committee (CAC) is a committee that stands by the vision to raise awareness of the customs, morals, arts, literature, and principles of the diverse cultures around the world. We encourage the appreciation of cultural diversity in the NLCS Jeju community based on the belief that it is an essential step towards making sure that all members of the school community feel able to learn in a safe, inclusive environment.
A few months ago, the CAC organised a fundraising activity to support the Korean Immigrant and Refugee Centre by selling cotton candy to Senior School students and staff. The objective of this donation was to assist the organisation’s efforts in spreading knowledge on the different cultures and help immigrants transition and settle into life in Korea. However, no matter how big or small a donation is, the CAC wished to recognise that comprehending the true meaning of serving and empathising with the recipients is what really matters. Therefore, in order to strengthen our own understanding of the life of immigrants, the CAC went on a trip to the Podo Museum to see the exhibition, “Yet, With Love”, which illustrates the authentic experiences of immigrants around the world. The overall content of the exhibition focused on the representation of the challenges and struggles of immigrants while settling in their new homes. Geonwoo (Geoff) Kim in Yr 11, the events officer of the CAC describes, “We were able to reflect upon the different quotes, illustrations, and statues that commented on the struggles of immigrants in their life abroad. This helped me better realise the significance of support and care for these people.” SeongJoon (Steven) Yang in Yr 12, the vice chair of the CAC, also recounts his experience, “It gave me the opportunity to remind myself of the importance of widening my perspective so that I am aware of the issues that are not always in the daily spotlight. I certainly believe all other members of the CAC would think the same too!”

BLUE CROSS - CHANG KEERYO SERVICE AWARD
Dr. Chang Ki-ryeo is the pride of Korea, which was called “Schweitzer of Korea” and “Little Jesus.” His spirit of service influenced him even more until the name that made his name shine. He was the best name of the time in a position to enjoy wealth and power, but he lived a simple life, gave his salary to poor patients, and kept his promise to “live for those who are dying without seeing a doctor.” Dr. Jang Ki-ryeo, who practiced sharing for a lifetime, won various awards such as the National Medal of Merit (1976), the Red Cross Medal of Merit Gold (1978), and the Magsaisai Social Service Award (1979), and was awarded the National Medal of Merit Mugunghwa (1996)
Blue Cross is a medical volunteer organization established after Dr. Jang Ki-ryeo’s spirit, named after the Blue Cross Medical Insurance Organization. This Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group is an NGO (non-governmental organization) organization that strives to create a healthy society, and it is Korea’s representative medical volunteer group that has been practicing sharing with underprivileged neighbors through domestic and overseas medical services since 1997. In addition, the Blue Cross Youth Volunteer Group, which belongs to Blue Cross, was established in 2010 with the intention of “the right personality of teenagers creates a healthy society in the future” as a mentor to Dr. Jang Ki-ryeo. Since its establishment, several students share information on areas in need of help in the community. The Chang Ki-ryeo Volunteer Award, organized by the Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group, was held. This competition has been held every year since the first time in 2013 to continue the sharing spirit of Dr. Schweitzer Chang Ki-ryeo, who was a doctor of the poor with love, service, and poor life in a modern society that is becoming increasingly selfish. In this competition, he has contributed to introducing teenagers with the right personality and spreading interest and participation in volunteer work through his volunteer experience notes and presentations. Following Dr. Chang Ki-ryeo’s will, a volunteer writing contest was held every year to encourage youth to volunteer, and Wholesee applied for it and won the gold prize.
Whole see is a non-profit organization created to inform the school community and the world about the good deeds and volunteer activities happening around the world in which we are not aware of. We hope that these efforts will bring opportunities and help to more places, and spread good influence like dandelion dust. Understanding and sharing with those in
need is a step toward a better society where we live together and we hope we can take part in this step.
We have done volunteer work for summer vacation homework and spec. There was a time when I had an arrogant idea of helping people who were worse than me, but as the number of volunteer services increased, I realized that there was no fixed position to help. So I started with Mr. Hall in the hope that it would be a small step toward the future where we live together. Hall is a federated group club created by students who want to spread their good influence like dandelion puffs-the most noxious weed that creeps into all of our schools, communities, and the world.
The main activity begins by discovering hidden good deeds, interviewing them, and publishing them to the world. In addition, we are participating in various good deeds and volunteer activities together, and furthermore, we are expanding opportunities for help in more places through fundraising activities. NLCS Jeju participated as an enterprise to promote the good deeds of clubs in schools, collected soccer shoes, and donated them to Laotian children. I hope that a little good deed will resonate
