COMPUTERSCIENCE

The Computer Science department aims to develop computational thinkingandproblem-solvingskillsin eachstudent Weaimtopreparestudentstounderstandthecomponentpartsofcomputersystemsandhow they interrelate, including soware, data, hardware, communications and people. Studentsaresethomeworkfortwoorthreesubjectspereveningandthisshouldtotalaboutoneandahalf hoursworthofhomeworkpernight WedonotbelievethatitishealthyforYear7studentstoberegularly spendingmoretimethanthisworking,especiallyiftheyfeelunderpressuretodoso.InYear8,their homeworkallocationincreasestotwohoursperevening,witheachstudentreceiving3x40minutespieces ofwork.

INGENERAL

Ensurethatyourchildcompletestheirhomework,butdoesnʼtspendtoomuchtimedoingit Aboutoneand a half hours should be enough for most Year 7 students. AllowingtimetoreadinEnglishisanincredibly valuable aspect of homework and should be encouraged. Please remember the importanceofyourchild getting enough sleep. It is recommended by the Sleep Foundation that children up the age of 13 have between9and11hoursofsleeppernightandchildrenbetweentheagesof14-17shouldhave8to10hours sleep Getting the optimum amount of sleep gives your child the support they need to develop both physicallyandmentallysotheycanperformwellatschool
