THE TREE CANOPY TRAIL - PHASE I
The city of Fort Wayne, Indiana has been committed to revitalize the city’s inner core after years of under-invested. The river front development is an on-going multi-phase high profile project that successfully catalysts new public and private investments back into the city. In 2016, Phase-I development was commissioned to a group of 4 firms (of those 2 were architects) after a round of RFP from top design firms around the country. I was with one of 4 firms and had a chance to collaborate with some brilliant design minds. My contribution in this phase was the layout and structural concept for the elevated boardwalk on the north bank of the river, naming The Tree Canopy Trail. Later, at the request of the city, my firm was awarded with formulating a vision for the project’s next phases. I assumed the lead on this task. Working in a team of three, we created a master plan, staging 3 phases of public developments and envisioning a future such developments would catalyst. It was very well received by the public and gained supports from the communities. Phase I - The Promenade Park opened to the public in July,2019 and became the city’s new destination. Phase II is now under schematic design with a new design team.

The group of oncologists at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana had an ambitious plan of building their new home on the campus, bringing the scattered departments under the same roof and providing the needed spaces for their growing body of staff and patients. I had a chance to formulate and present a com-temporary design to them which the group became fond of. They were excited enough to promptly work on the funding mechanisms with the hospital to realize the brilliant vision. It never came through; and the project stopped in the middle of the programing phase, at which we were interviewing the staff on their program needs. The design solution itself responded to the context of the site and hosted a list of sustainable features. It took into account the traffic flows, views, topography, solar energy, building orientation, rain water harvest and retention and also the physical and mental healths of the cancer patients.

ARCHITECTURAL MORFPHOGENESIS PROCESSES
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS • Advanced 3D modeling and rendering • Model making and 3D printing • Explore the implication of new design tools and software and their influences on the architectural styles, form making and processes
MORFPHOGENESIS PROCESSES - “GROWING” THE ARCHITECTURAL FORM OF THE RESIDENCE This architectural studio explored the use of advanced modeling tools and software and the digital fabrication techniques to generate innovative architectural forms and languages. The morphological concepts found in biology was applied to guide the architectural form making processes. Each student developed a set of “evolution” parameters and applied modeling techniques to “grow” one of the primitive geometries into a “species” of architectural element. Lots with the size of 15’x50’ in an existing neighborhood in Philadelphia were given to the students to “grow” their architectural species in the real world context of a typical town house footprint, with existing houses on two sides. The structure’s intended use was for the dwelling needs of an imaginative family that each student made up at their own preferences. The organic 3Dmodeling was a really complex but also really fun challenge. When the 3D print of the model successfully came out of the print bed, it was a great joy and I was convinced that one day I would build homes and structures look like that.

INTERIOR DESIGN AND RENDERING
The client was a couple of physicians with high appreciation to quality design and technology. They wanted to build a home that they could live, work, entertain and also be close to their growing up 3 children. The home was set back from the street and screened with a buffer zone of plants and high trees which allow the front of the house to be opened up and maximize the view from the main living spaces. While on the back side trees were also planted, openings were limited and an inhouse zen garden was introduced to provide passive cooling, mitigate the hot summer months’ sunlight and enhance the open floor plan concept. I worked with the design principal to develop the architectural form of the house then led the design team on the interior design phase. GROUND LEVEL/SITE PLAN
