LUTHERAN HOSPITAL NEW CANCER CENTER - INDIANA, USA Year/status: 2016. Programming and concept design. Size: 6 stories medical building- 145.000 sq.f. total 3-level parking garage - 500+ parking spaces. Working with the leaders of the group of oncologists at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, and later with the staff on their programing needs, an initial project scope was defined. I took charge on proposing an singular contemporary design on a conventional, typical Mid-West

red brick hospital campus. This was an unbuilt, though it was very well received by the client. The design solution and the massing concept responded to the site context and hosted a list of sustainable features. It took into account the traffic flows, views, topography, solar energy & building orientation, rain water harvest & retention, and also the physical and mental health of the cancer patients.

AERIAL VIEW - THE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CITY CONTEXT

STREET LEVEL PLAN & SITE CONTEXT

The project locates in the heart of the city of Fort Wayne’s downtown which is very active with recent downtown redevelopment projects. The Boutique Hotel is under construction on the opposite side of Main Street; the Skyline Garage and Ash Brokage is a newly built on the south side of Berry Street; and the Metro Building, sitting on the same block is being renovated to a luxury residential and office building. Downtown’s new public developments projects, including The Promenade Park (Riverfront Development Phase I) and the Landing, are just 5-minute walk away. The project addresses the additional parking needs for the becoming more and more active downtown and adjacent new projects while also adding needed offices on the North and South ends. Design considerations include blending in with surrounding context and human scale street scape design.

2016-2019. Construction completed 07/2019 Phase I - 7.2 acres of public park - ACEC Indiana 2020 Engineering Excellence. - Merit Award for Design-Constructed Project by American Society of Landscape Architects.

In 2016, Phase-I development was commissioned to a group of 4 firms (of those, two were architects) after a round of RFP

from top design firms around the country. I was with one of the 4 firm and had a chance to collaborate with some brilliant design minds. My contribution in this phase was the layout and structural concept for the elevated boardwalk on the north bank of the river, naming the Tree Canopy Trail. Public reception since project opening was amazing. It is considered a highly successful downtown revitalized project.

While Phase I development was under construction, in working with the city, my firm was awarded the task of formulating a concept master plan for the next phases of riverfront developments.

I assumed the lead on this task. Working in a three people team, we created a master plan, staging the next 2 phases of public developments which would catalyst further investments in the surrounding neighborhoods in the downtown Fort Wayne. This led to the continuing support and the execution of the current on-going Riverfront Phase II Development.

This architectural studio explored the use of advanced modeling tools and digital fabrication techniques in generating innovative architectural forms and languages. The morphological concepts found in biology was applied to guide the architectural form making

Lots with the size of 15’x50’ in an existing neighborhood in Philadelphia were given to the students to “grow” their architectural species in the real world context of typical town house footprints. Thus the project named: Morphogenesis Residence.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS • Advanced 3D modeling and rendering. • Physical model making, digital fabrication techniques and 3D printing. • Explore the implications of new design tools and software and their influences on the architectural styles and form making and processes.
