Finnish salty liquorice (salmiakki) is an ammonium chloride flavored licorice. It can taste both salty or sweet.

For cold smoked salmon, fresh fillets are salted on the surface and smoked over alder wood chips. Grawlax is prepared by salting and marinating without heating.
