LETTER FROM HUGH
DEAR FRIENDS OF THE KONA KAI CLUB COMMUNITY
As we transition out of another fantastic summer and into autumn, I want to thank each of you for so graciously welcoming the newest members of our management team: • • • • •
Jenny Gregorak, Director of Club Membership Austin Charleston, Vessel General Manager Kadi Duff, Director of Catering Kelly Commerford, Director of Sales & Marketing Myself, General Manager
The day-to-day club operation will continue to be run by our Club Manager, Maria Yrbas, who, as our lifetime and long-standing members know, possesses a contagious sense of pride and dedication to the Kona Kai Club that has already rubbed off on our new team. We look forward to the many introductions that will undoubtedly take place in the near future. And to our newest club members that have just recently joined us, welcome aboard! With the holidays just around the corner, we hope you and your family will keep in mind all the wonderful dining opportunities available at Kona Kai over the next few months. In addition to Chef Roy’s famous daily specials, our Thanksgiving buffet and Christmas Dinner are both on the calendar once again this year—just in case you want to avoid the kitchen this Holiday Season! Details of these events are carefully outlined later on in this (our first!) edition of The View. At this time it is also appropriate to provide a brief overview of the upcoming projects at the property. Barring any unforeseen circumstances or schedule changes, the hotel expansion and additional pool projects will commence sometime before the New Year. While these improvements should have little to no impact on our daily lives at the club, we are committed to keeping our community updated on timelines and project details as they become available. We are also thrilled to announce the completion of the seawall restoration project, and we thank each of you for your patience and understanding during that process. I am honored and excited to begin my term as General Manager at the historic Kona Kai Club and Kona Kai Resort & Spa. The community of Point Loma has been extremely welcoming during my transition back to San Diego, and I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks. Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions, concerns, or just to introduce yourself! On behalf of the entire team at Kona Kai Club, we look forward to providing you with more great memories and exclusive member events during the last few months of 2016. Please be on the lookout for quarterly editions of The View newsletter to keep you up to speed on all the excitement. Thank you again for being part of the Kona Kai tradition! LETTER FROM JENNY
HELLO TO ALL MEMBERS On behalf of our entire team, welcome to autumn! Whether you had a restful or fun-filled summer, I hope you enjoyed your time with family and friends. My name is Jenny Gregorak and I am the new Director of Club Membership for Kona Kai Club. Having just recently moved back to San Diego from Seattle, it feels wonderful to be back in the sun and part of such an amazing group of people at this iconic private club. Those that I have met thus far have been so warm and welcoming, and I am excited to meet many more of you in the coming weeks. I love listening to club stories! As we begin the new season, my primary goal will be to provide a warm and social setting that offers each of you a creative mix of new activities and offerings. Kona Kai Club will also be making several improvements to help ensure continued fun and enjoyment for 2017 and beyond. For example, we are in the process of designing a new member-only lounge area where we will host wine nights, local beer tastings, and a variety of other events. More details to follow soon! I’m originally from Spokane, WA and began my hospitality career in 2004 with a family-owned company called FantaSea Yachts & Yacht Club based in Marina Del Rey. My career with Noble House Hotels & Resorts started at Paradise Point and continued at the nearby Hilton San Diego Resort. Over the past several years, I’ve assisted with the opening of a new resort in Placencia, Belize and provided task-force support to Noble House properties in Redondo Beach and Monterey, CA. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have membership referrals, questions about club events, or to introduce yourself! We’ll offer you one of the following perks for every new membership that you bring to us! • •
Complimentary 2-night stay at Kona Kai Resort Complimentary 80-minute couples massage
Again, I am thrilled to be here! Looking forward to many fun times ahead! Warmly, Jenny Gregorak Director of Club Memberships jgregorak@sdkonakai.com 619.819.8176 3

LETTER FROM ADAM
DEAR MEMBERS The Fall and Winter season is fast approaching but the activity at the Kona Kai Marina will continue to be busy as we transition from Summer boating to a robust Fall and Winter season. As we continue to upgrade our services at the Marina and Resort I wanted to remind our members of the many unique offers that Kona Kai Marina offers that make us stand out in the San Diego marina community. Kona Kai Marina provides its tenants with a modern spa and work out facility for tenants to enjoy. We also have an ample amount of parking for tenants as well as available street parking or paid off street parking for guests. Kona Kai marina also offers discounts at our restaurant, event space and catering. I would like to thank all of our Kona Kai Marina tenants for their loyal support and please let me know if there is anything that we can do to make your experience at The Kona Kai Marina and Resort special. We look forward to the great year round boating and as we say goodbye to summer we welcome with an enthusiastic attitude the fun winter happenings such as lobster season, whale watching, romantic sunsets and of course the amazing Holiday Parade of Lights Festival. Wishing you and your family and friends a safe and memorable fall and winter boating season. Adam Veves Dock Master aveves@sdkonakai.com 619.224.7547

SUSTAINABLE CORNER Hello horticulture enthusiasts! With the passing of Labor Day, San Diego is entering what the calendar calls “fall”. Around the country this means significant changes in weather and other related issues. For us, it means less crowds and maybe a pullover at night! However, the shorter days and cooler temperatures do remind us of a few added responsibilities in and around the garden:
IN THE GARDEN a. b. c. d. e. f. g.
Reduce irrigation frequency and run times Now is the time to start winter vegetables: beets, peas, spinach, chard, onions, etc. Plant bulbs Deadhead your flowers to encourage additional flowering instead of going to seed Deadhead your roses as this will encourage some last minute blooms (remember, always prune above a growth node at a fiveleaflet leaf pointing outward) Prune out dead, diseased, or damaged portions of deciduous trees before foliage drops Lace out and prune up tree canopies
AROUND YOUR HOME h. i.
Adjust lighting timers carefully as we approach the New Year Stay on top of roof gutters and drain inlets— periodic cleaning will prevent having to perform a major tasks when rain falls j. Inspect or have heaters serviced to avoid fire hazard or unpleasant smells when turned on If you are considering using rain barrels this year, now is the time to acquire and install these devices. Check out your water department’s website for discounted pricing or rebates. I hope you have found this helpful and if you are on property and have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me! Bryan Caradona Chief Engineer bcaradona@sdkonakai.com 619.819.4330
