LETTER FROM SANDY

D E AR M E M B E R S , Whether you rang in the New Year with much fanfare or enjoyed a cozy evening at home watching the “Ball Drop” in Times Square, welcome to 2017! The Club is ready to jump into a very festive season and welcome all of our members to a fun-filled year ahead.

REIT categories, Ranked #1 for Best CEO – Jon Bortz, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and also Ranked #1 Pebblebrook Hotel Trust as Best Analyst Days. It’s nice to be in good company with their positive vision in taking LaPlaya to the next level.

We’re embarking on one of the busiest seasons ever and there are many planned events and seminars coming up, so, I would strongly suggest you make your reservations early and mark your calendars.

Just over a year ago, after a complete golf course renovation and restructuring, we launched the reopening of our golf course to nothing but positive praise and feedback about the great play of the course. Take time to enjoy a game of golf and also the new outdoor patio, a great place to book a private event.

New programming is in place this year with a mission to create experiences for all ages and interests. Our new outdoor fun music series featuring Marco P.’s Vinyl Friday Nights, poolside, will start the third week in January. Marco P is actually our very own, Resort Managing Director, Marco Perry – this should be fun! Saturday and Sunday afternoons, we’ll make a splash poolside with local entertainment including well-known music artists in our new series “Dynamic Duos”. Come check out these innovative new programs guaranteed to be fun! Members don’t always see or hear about the many ongoing projects at the beach club. Behind the scenes, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, made major improvements over the Summer and Fall in their mission to continually invest in upgrading our upscale club and resort. Property improvements were made including renovation of the Beach House building guest rooms and I’m excited to say the finished product looks beautiful. If you have family or friends coming to town, they will enjoy the newly renovated guest rooms. Members also asked for new equipment for the fitness center, therefore new pieces of cardio equipment and more will soon be arriving.

Boating? Wet slips are available for short or long term lease. There is nothing like having a boat in your own (club) back yard for easy access to the gulf! For private luxury pontoon rental excursions for up to 30, and the convenient pick up from the LaPlaya Dock, ask about All Water Excursions, our new partner in sport concessions. Season is upon us, so please take time to review the policies in “The View”, so that everyone will have a wonderful experience at the Beach and Golf Club. Don't forget, you can peruse all of the member event pictures on the Private Club Member website. Looking ahead, this will definitely be a season to remember and we are delighted to be a part of your Naples plans. If there is anything that we can do to make your club experience more extraordinary, don’t hesitate to ask. Sincerely, Sandy Cotter Director of Membership

Worth noting, recently receiving accolades, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust was featured in Institutional Investor’s Magazine’s 2017 All-America Executive Team - Financial Institutions Midcap and was the major winner in two

LETTER FROM SCOTT

D E AR MEMBERS, I’d like to wish all of our Members a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. It was a wonderful holiday season full of family, friends and festivities. It was great to welcome back our Members to the Club. As 2016 has come and gone at LaPlaya Beach and Golf Club, we roll in 2017 with excitement for what lies ahead. We have listened to our Members and are providing more of what you want from your Club. We have added more Wine Dinners, Culinary Series, Fashion Shows, Entertainment Evenings and great Bar Events. The County has done a fantastic job re-nourishing the beach adding approximately twenty feet of sand to the previous waterline. Thank you Collier County, it was much needed. Joining the team this season, we would like to welcome Shelley Johnson. Some of you may know Shelley from The Colony, where she had been for the past ten years. She is joining us in the dining room to assist Tom with daily operations. We’d also like to welcome back our veteran servers for the season. Two new faces in the dining room are Cassidy at the host stand and Albert joining us for the first time from Jamaica. All three “newbies” have been a tremendous asset to the team. WELCOME NEW

Pure Himalayan salt stones are heated on a patented warmer, then used to massage the client's tight, sore, and compromised muscles. This treatment won the 2016 International Spa Association’s Innovation award, and we can’t wait to share it with you. LECTURE SERIES ROB & CAROLE LEHER, AUTHORS T U E S D AY, F E B R U A RY 7 , 2 0 1 7 10 AM – 11AM

Naples residents Robert and Carole Leher published their 252-page coffee table book, NAPLES BEACH HOMES: COTTAGES, CASTLES, AND THE FAMILIES THAT BUILT THEM. The Lehers spent three years talking with homeowners, gathering their stories about living on the beach along Gulf Shore Boulevard and Gordon Drive. Their book also journeys back in time to explore some of the historic houses that graced the beach in days gone by. Join us for a powerpoint presentation by Robert and Carole Leher who have had the good fortune to talk with many of the families that live on the beach today, as well as those who have lived there in years past.

HENK MORELISSE PROTECTING THE RAINFORESTS THROUGH ECO-TOURISM T U E S D AY, M A R C H 1 4 , 2 0 1 7 10 AM - 11:00 AM

Nearly 20 years ago, Henk Morelisse was walking his property in Costa Rica when he came across several massive trees – ceibas, almendros (almond trees) and guácimos (Guazuma ulmifolia). He spotted a giant ceiba that is about 500 years old – which means it sprouted roots about the same time that Christopher Columbus first anchored off Costa Rica’s shoreline. That ceiba and four others like it gave Morelisse, a self-described environmentalist, the idea to plant over 700,000 – yes, almost a million – more trees on his 1,100-hectare property. Later, he teamed up with Costa Rica’s Environment Ministry to obtain private reserve status from the National System of Conservation Area. As naturalists know, the rain forest constantly changes – it evolves, it moves, it grows. Come listen to Henk Morelisse and his story on fostering Eco-Tourism. LaPlaya Club Newsletter | Vol 87

THE VALUE OF

COMPOUNDING Happy 2017 to all members, their families & guests. Your LaPlaya Golf Club starts the new year full of optimism; and is assured about the preferred playing conditions for the golfing year ahead. An investment of time, material and care has gone into reviewing specific aspects of golf course conditions over a number of years now, and is having the desired positive and cumulative effect. LaPlaya G.C. Maintenance Department. headed up by golf course Superintendent Patrick, is one of the first golf courses in the country to use a brand new nematode preventative product, called "Indemnify" across all putting surfaces on the property, and the results we believe speak for themselves. The same (result) for the new patio; having great views when dining or what industry insiders call "3rd Space" amenities are becoming more important to members’ experiences; as are the convivial gatherings that members will enjoy from those vantage points. Chef Cheryl and F&B Director Joanna are designing a new tapas menu experience from 4pm-6pm daily starting January – April 2017 to answer the call for our version of a "happy hour" concept. On the planning drawing board for summer 2017 & beyond are: • A clubhouse, and golf shop "re-fresh". • A dedicated short game improvement area for the north end practice facility. • A members retreat for the existing structure located there. Happy new compounding year to one and all! Welcome Home! Yours Aye, Alan Findlay Golf Club General Manager

GOLF TIP Most amateurs have a hard time keeping in their posture at impact. Something to try is swing at only 80% of your power. This will help you stay in balance through and after your swing. Think of keeping your chin pointed at the golf ball at impact. You want to make sure that you get your hands (handle) out in front of your belt buckle at impact as you turn your hips and shoulder through the shot. You should be able to balance on your left (right leg for left handers) leg at the finish. Good luck! Laurel Kean LPGA Professional

D E AR MEMBERS, During the winter months, the amount of play on the golf course will increase dramatically. In order that the additional traffic does not affect playability, we will again have our fairways and tee boxes over seeded with cool season rye grass. The rye grass is a ‘northern’ grass that will continue to grow even as the temperatures drop and our native Bermuda grass growth slows down. During season, we ask all members and guests to please drive carts in the over seeded fairways as much as possible. Although this is contrary to what most courses ‘up north’ preach, the over seeded areas will handle the cart traffic much better. This practice will also help to preserve the playability and look of the roughs throughout the season. In addition, the amount of divots and ball marks will also increase as rounds increase. A divot that is not filled with sand will take twice as long to heal. The same can be said for an unrepaired ball mark on the greens. Divots are of particular importance on Par 3 tees and fairway landing areas. Each golf cart is equipped with its own supply of sand and sand buckets are also located on all Par 3 tee boxes. Also, all players should be aware of where their golf ball has impacted the green and look in that area for the ball mark. Encourage your playing partners to fix their own ball mark plus one more in order that the putting surfaces remain as pristine as possible all season long. We thank you for your continued assistance and look forward to seeing you on the course! Patrick Lewins Golf Course Superintendent 21

LETTER FROM BEN

D E AR MEMBERS, The Golf Team and I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and are looking forward to a fun filled and eventful season. The Golf Team has a lot of the familiar faces you are used to seeing and some new ones as well. Please let me introduce to you the new faces you will be seeing around the club and assisting you with anything you need. Outside at the Bag Drop you will see Collin McEndree and Jordan Glick. Both come to us from the Cleveland, OH area and will be here seasonally. Ed Munroe will be assisting Jay and Billy with the starting duties in the afternoon and he is a native of Boston, MA. Hunter Pulaski is an apprentice professional working in the Golf Shop and coming down seasonally from Petosky, MI. The Club has already played two 9 and Dines and a third will be played by the time you receive this letter. I would like to congratulate all of the winners and thank everyone that has participated. Men’s and Ladies’ Days have kicked off as well. Men’s Day will have an 8:30 shotgun start for those participating. Ladies’ Day is running as usual with Laurel in charge. As another season begins to round out here at LaPlaya Golf Club, a fantastic schedule of events is lined up for all of our golfing members. The usual games like Men’s Day, Ladies’ Day, and the 9 & Dine’s will be played as in the past, and you are encouraged to participate and enjoy some friendly competition. We also have our bigger events like the Opening Day Mixer, which helps kick off the season with a cocktail and pairings party on January 13th from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, and a fun 18-hole Scramble on the morning of the 14th beginning at 8:30 AM. The very popular Member ~ Member Tournament will be February 3rd and 4th, with a cocktail party on the 3rd following golf and announcement of the pairings for the final round on Saturday morning. The Club Championships are scheduled for Friday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 4th. The format will be 2 days of stroke play, flighted and handicapped. The Club Champions will be determined from the Championship Flight in their respective divisions by gross scores and all other flight winners will be determined by net scores.

The Men’s Invitational is scheduled for March 9th, 10th and 11th. You should have received your invitations by mail. Be sure to return your entry form by January 31st to secure your place in the field. Practice rounds will be available the week before and the week of the event and is included in the cost of the event. Below are a few reminders for you as the season moves along. TEE TIMES Beach and Full Golf members and Golf Only members are allowed to book tee times ten days in advance online and via the ForeTees App and seven days in advance via a phone call to the Golf Shop with no time restrictions. The Golf Shop will not make ten day advance tee times via phone or in person. TWOSOMES Twosomes will be paired together as necessary. If you insist on playing strictly as a twosome, you will be allowed to do so later in the day as the tee sheet lightens up. Twosomes in the morning will not have preferential treatment over threesomes and foursomes regarding tee times or pace of play. PAC E O F P L AY E X P EC TAT I O N S If a group is playing at a pace that will allow them to finish in four hours or less, they will be considered to be on time. We ask that you do your best to keep up with the group ahead of you, rather than just staying ahead of the group behind. As a member, we ask that you inform your guests about the dress code which applies to the golf course as well as the practice facility. Denim, tee shirts, short shorts, bathing suits, tank tops and halter tops are not allowed. Men must have collared golf shirts and ladies must have a golf shirt with either sleeves or a collar. Please adhere to all basic golf etiquette while on the course. Fill your divots with sand, fix your ball-mark plus one other, and be ready to hit your shot when it is your turn. Remember that courtesy is contagious. Respectfully, Ben Bryant, PGA

The Ladies Invitational Guest Day is scheduled for Thursday, February 16th. The course will be closed to men the entire day. Teams will be comprised of 1 member and 1 guest. Entries will be limited to the first 50 teams to register.
