The King Returns

May 24, 2012 – January 6, 2013 Step into one of history’s most treasured stories in Tutankhamun: The Golden King and The Great Pharaohs, opening at Pacific Science Center on May 24, 2012. The exhibition features more than 100 objects from King Tut’s tomb and ancient sites representing some of the most important rulers throughout 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. Come face-to-face with the largest image of King Tut ever unearthed; see authentic objects from King Tut’s tomb including jewelry, furniture and ceremonial items, as well as the boy king’s golden sandals - created specifically for the afterlife and covering his feet when his mummified remains were discovered in 1922 by British explorer Howard Carter.

Seattle Rock n’ Roll Marathon June 23, 2012

New Course in 2012! The marathon and half marathon will start & finish at Seattle Center, downtown Seattle. Runners will experience iconic Seattle sights as they rock out to live bands every mile. Music at every mile makes up the heart and “sole” of this event. Live Seattle bands will be performing a variety of music from alternative to classic rock, punk, funk and blues to jazz it up. Runners and spectators alike will be “Dancin’ in the Streets” to these mini-concerts.

AC/DC: Australia’s Family Jewels Through September 29, 2012 at EMP

EMP is proud to be the only North American venue to host AC/DC: Australia’s Family Jewels. Developed and presented by the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Western Australian Museum in association with AC/DC, Albert Music, and Sony Music, this is the first and only fully endorsed exhibition to bring to life the history, creativity, and power of one of the world’s greatest rock bands. The exhibition will feature more than 400 artifacts including photos, instruments, 35 years of gig posters from shows staged around the world, letters, lyrics, and costumes, including an extremely rare Angus Young schoolboy outfit and his 1975 home sewn ‘Super Ang’ costume, complete with gold and red satin cape.

Seattle’s Maritime Festival Family Fun Day May 12, 2012

The Seattle Maritime Festival is the annual showcase of the maritime industry and the important role it plays in the Puget Sound economy. Events include the World’s Largest Tugboat Parade and Demonstration, World Invitational Survival Suit Races, Vessel Tours, Coast Guard Sea/Air Helicopter Rescue Demonstrations, Harbor Tours and the Seattle Waterfront Neighborhood Clam Chowder Cook Off, held this year at The Edgewater - the defending champions of the People’s Choice.
