BASIC TECHNIQUE
RIBBON WRAPPED HEADBANDS
Take a half-inch length of ribbon and run it vertically along the tip of the headband base so it wraps around it. Glue down the outside end only, leaving the inside end temporarily loose. At the inside tip, glue down the edge of an uncut length of ribbon so it runs perpendicular to the other ribbon. Glue the loose edge of the vertical ribbon down over it. Using the uncut ribbon, wrap the headband at a slight angle, making sure the ribbon sits edge to edge and does not overlap itself except where you lined the tip. Ensuring there is no overlapping will keep the surface from becoming bumpy. Lightly hot glue the inside of the headband every half-inch or so of wrapping to hold the ribbon in place. Finish the headband off by once again wrapping a vertical strip of ribbon around the tip, then tucking the end of the wrapping ribbon under it.

Russian veiling rolls of tulle, in two colors lining or other lightweight fabric 1" millinery comb needle + thread glue gun + glue sticks stiff felt
instructions Cut a strip of stiff felt measuring about an inch wide by three inches long. Adjust these measurements as needed for a full or longer piece. Set the strip aside. Cut several circles out of both colors of tulle and your lining or lightweight fabric. Each circle should be roughly six inches in diameter. Imperfections in size and shape are ideal to emphasize the layered look of the piece. Arrange the cut fabric with the two tulle circles sandwiching the lining. Pinch the center of the three circles to shape the fabric into a cone. Starting at the center of the felt strip, sew the cone to the felt at the tip of the cone. Create a new cone and repeat, working equally on the left and right. Keep each layered cone close to the last so the appearance remains dense.

With a hot glue gun, pipe out a straight line of glue across the area of the headband where you want the accent to sit. Positioning the accent so that the veil strip faces forward at a slight angle, press the felt circle base down onto the glue while it is still rather hot, taking care not to burn yourself. When the glue has cooled and set, line up the second felt circle with the first and apply hot glue to the accent's felt on the left and right sides of the headband. Press the loose felt circle on to it, so the two circles sandwich the headband. Let the glue cool and set before wearing.

When used as flowers, pom poms look like stylized versions of allium, and you can make them in any yarn color available. In addition to making the perfect accent to the groom’s lapel, these flowers can be used as favor and gift accents. Consider adding a hair clip instead of a pin back for a pretty hair accessory.

Wind the yarn around three fingers on one hand. Be sure not to wind the yarn too tightly, or you may have difficulty sliding it off of your fingers. For plush yarn (as shown), wind about 75 times. For thinner yarn, you may need to wind it around your fingers up to 100 times. Cut the end of the yarn, and carefully slide it off of your fingers.
Using a pair of scissors, cut all of the loops of yarn. After you’ve cut the loops, you’ll be left with a very shaggy looking pom pom. Trim the pom pom until you’re happy with its appearance.

Using the circle template and the marking pen, trace 5 circles onto your felt, and cut out the circles. Cut using pinking shears for a different look, as shown in the photo for step four. Remove leftover ink with a damp paper towel. Cut a one inch diameter circle out of a scrap piece of felt. Don’t worry if the result isn’t perfect, as this piece will serve as the base for the flower and will be hidden from view when you’re finished. Thread a hand sewing needle and triple knot the thread at the end. Fold one of the felt circles into quarters and stitch the threaded needle through the tip of the folded circle. Then stitch through the center of the circle base. Stitch 4 or 5 times, until the folded felt is attached securely to the base.
Repeat the folding and stitching process for an additional 3 folded circles, making sure to stitch them as close to the center of the base piece as possible.

When developing this table's concept, we wanted it to be not only elegant, bright, unique and fun, but affordable too. With various shades of coral and gold, we were able to bring this table to life. Inspired by a gorgeous image we found from a coffee shop in New Zealand, depicting dozens of lamps hanging from a ceiling, the tablescape, not including the cost of flowers, only cost $94.50. At a cost of only $1 a piece at a local salvage store, we found 10 basic lamp shades. On Etsy, we found a variety of shades of coral printed fabric. When picking your fabrics, find ones that reflect the colors of your wedding, event or shower. Using these affordable materials along with scissors, gold spray paint and a hot glue gun, the project is easy and fun. Though most of the lamps were covered in fabric, we spray painted a few of them metallic gold to give it an extra pop of shimmer. When the lamp shades were covered and painted, we tied them up with ribbon in a line over the table. You can also bundle them to create a beautiful outdoor lamp chandelier. With these simple materials you can bring a warm indoor, homey feeling to an outside event.

To give the dessert table an affordable, fresh spin, we created a cookie buffet. To save on money, gather your families’ favorite cookie recipes and get baking! Even better, rope in a few of them to do it for you. After baking a variety of delectable cookies, we stacked them inside gold-foiled cupcake holders, creating an instantly elegant, mini “cookie bar.” To tie things together, utilize your same fabrics from before. Find old pieces of wood and cut them into a variety of shapes and cover them with the fabric. In our tablescape, to add some pop, we spray painted one of the pieces gold.

Sometimes purchasing several can get to be pricey, so inquire about renting pieces whenever possible. Often times, antique stores are more than willing to do this - and for a fraction of the cost!

BUDGET BOTANICALS These centerpieces were designed with coral charm peonies, spray roses, hypericum, lemon leaf, baby's breath, broom corn pods, and restios. Leigh Anne from the Floral Lab used an antique gold floral spray paint, which is less harsh than regular spray paint, on the lemon leaf and baby's breath for a little extra sparkle. Peonies can be pricey - around $5 a stem, but they are absolutely amazing flowers and simply stunning if showcased alone. Using single flowers rather than groups can help trim the budget considerably. If you're still looking to save, consider that this display was designed for a longer table. Circular table formats can have more condensed displays, requiring less floral décor.

Quilled Lettering pencil strips of paper, cut 1" thick glue dots First, determine what word you want to spell out. For each letter, use a strip of paper for each stroke you need to form the letter. Wrap the edges of each strip tightly around a pencil to curl it and shape the rest of the strip to form the letter. To attach the strip to the surface of the sign, use a glue dots as needed.

NANA'S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES courtesy of heather cook
1 1/2 cup flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt or less 1 cup butter, softened 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 cups quick cooking oats 1 cup old fashioned oats 2 1/2 cups chopped Belgian milk chocolate Combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Cream butter with sugars until smooth, then add eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and blend well. Stir in oats and chopped chocolate. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Form dough into balls using a heaping teaspoonful for each cookie. Bake at 375° for 9 to 10 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned on edges. Do not overbake. Cookies should be soft in center. Remove from cookie sheet within a couple of minutes. If they seem undercooked, not to worry! Once they have cooled slightly they become crispy and chewy.

We used a thinner milk glass jar that only needed four stems to make it feel plentiful. Warmth was added with two pink glass candle holders. Mercury glass style golden birds added a little bit of whimsy and glitz to this perfectly pink centerpiece.

Download our bag box template and use it to create favor packaging in any color of the rainbow. Let the eight ideas shown here inspire you to create favors in an array of different styles. The sky's the limit when it comes to the number of styles possible.

fuzzy flowers Cut simple leaves out of green felt. Glue the leaves together and attach to favor boxes using hot or fabric glue. Position and glue a yarn pom pom on top of the leaves.

sweet scallops Use scallop craft scissors to create a scalloped edge on the flap of the box. Make wood veneer "buttons" using a piece of maple veneer, a 1 inch scalloped circle punch, and a 1/16 inch hole punch.
beautiful butterflies Create butterfly embellishments using white cardstock and a butterfly paper punch. Bend the wings forward slightly for a three dimensional look, and attach to the favor box using glue dots.
Finish the buttons by threading embroidery thread through the holes, and secure using a glue dot. Attach to the box using additional glue dots or tape.

brown bag it » Create a favor box that looks like a brown paper bag by removing the template’s top flap and using pinking shears to create the familiar zig zag edge around the top of the box. Print 1 1/4" wide by 3" high tags onto cardstock and make a fold 3/8" from the top. Attach to the favor box with glue dots and double-sided tape. Fill with peanuts for a southern style or baseball themed affair, or fill with penny candy, such as Swedish Fish, for a nostalgic candy store theme.
