Thank you!
Building Nora Murphy Country House has been labor of love. The friendships I’ve made thanks to NMCH fill my heart every day. You always inspire me to do more, so I am grateful and honored to tell you… NMCH has been nominated for Best Inspirational Interiors Blog in the prestigious (and international!) 2017 Amara Awards! Your encouragement helped get us here – and now we need your help! Could you please take a moment to cast your vote for Nora Murphy Country House? Last year, your support helped us take home the top prize in Atlanta. Next stop, London! In the meantime, I’m going to keep doing more – sharing fresh ideas and inspiration with you. Love,
Nora Murphy Founder and Editor in Chief

Tip: Growing up on Melville Avenue in Fairfield, Connecticut, my neighbor Mrs. Bona grew the most gorgeous, healthy roses. One day I asked her what her secret was, and she said that it was simple – roses do not like getting their leaves wet! So, to this day, other than the rain, I only water my rose gardens when absolutely necessary, and only at the base of the shrubs. It worked for Mrs. Bona, and it surely works for me. Tip: It’s amazing how a few pillows and throws can change up a look! My white denim slipcovered sofa and chair are a great foundation for any seasonal refresh. Summer: These plump pillows with their handmade details were crafted from creamytoned Hungarian textiles. They’re from one vendor at both Brimfield and the Country Living Fair. A wonderfully cozy cotton throw from the same vendor has big, fat, plush tassels all the way around – who needs wool when you’ve got this? Check out our blog and magazines for more decorating inspiration and advice.

Tip: When it comes to setting a table, I just have to have layers! For the base, I began with unusual placemats that add an interesting texture that reminds me of a fisherman’s net. Folded vintage tea towels with knotted fringe, make terrific napkins. The lovely undulating grain and color of the wood veneered chargers resemble tidal ripples on a wet, sandy shore, and their scalloped edges, like tiny waves, echo those of the white soup bowls. A garland of oyster shells vining through the center of the table ties the look together. Check out our blog and magazines for more decorating inspiration.

Scent is an often overlooked design tool – but not at Nora Murphy Country House. It can set a mood in a room just as much as light or color does. We premiered the NMCH Candle Collection in June at the Rhinebeck Country Living Fair—and the incredible response has inspired us to make them available online! I’m so excited to launch our shop with these very special, gorgeously scented candles. Coming this fall.... Please look for it, just in time for the holidays!
