A magical space where fauna and flora abound, the Audomarois marsh can be explored in different ways. Thanks to the Maison du Marais, it is possible to explore it aboard a bacôve, to discover the profession of market gardener or even to take a seat in a rather special submarine... In spring and this summer, many activities are planned to accompany you in the discovery of this enchanting biosphere.

A guided trip along the water

Climb aboard a bacôve, a at-bottomed boat, and set off in relaxation mode for a trip along the 170 km of waterways that make up the Audomarois marsh. Accompanied by an eco-guide from the Maison du Marais, you will discover this exceptional biosphere reserve classi ed by UNESCO under the «Man & Biosphere» label, which applauds the coexistence of man and nature. 1 hour of total disconnection to discover the exceptional fauna and ora of the marsh. Be silent and keep your eyes open: you will come across one or more of the 240 species of birds such as gray herons, great crested grebes or majestic swans. This excursion will also allow you to admire some of the 400 varieties of plants of the marsh, like its indispensable water lilies…

An immersion in the depths of the marsh

Call upon your imagination to test out the adventure of the «Sous-marais». An extraordinary submersible 24 m long machine, which plunges young and old in the 4000 hectares of fresh water of the marsh. Through the portholes of this underwater setting, you will observe around twenty species of sh and underwater ora. A unique, interactive experience, where the imagination allows you to become more aware of the immense biodiversity that the marsh shelters.

An unforgettable encounter with a market gardener

Because the history of the marsh is also a history of men, Yves Capiau, retired market gardener, tells you how his last day of work went. «Capiau» reveals all the secrets that only those who have lived and worked in the heart of the marshes are able to tell you. With the photos taken from his family albums, the tools he used during his life as a market gardener or the lms of his younger years, he will help you discover the trades and traditions that still mark the life of its inhabitants. A moving encounter that transports you throughout this visit!
