Thank you Volunteers! Volunteer Opportunities Fall Calendar
6-8 9 10
Fall is just around the corner as we are still enjoying memories of yet another great Viking Days! I was thrilled to see such a good turnout and was equally satisfied to witness our staff and volunteers working side by side to make sure our visitors were entertained, happy and well fed! Since this was my first Viking Days, everything was new to me and I was afforded the unique opportunity to see how well our new volunteers worked with the seasoned veterans in such a collaborative and successful way. Thanks so much to all of you who participated in this fun event! We are now looking ahead to the schedule of events for the next few months. One important change to the schedule is the Nordic Culinary Conference originally scheduled for October 2-4. The Museum has decided to postpone the event until May of next year. It will afford us more time and resources to make the event a truly innovative experience. Look for more information about the event in the near future.
others coming up. The museum staff has put together a great calendar of events for the fall. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors and encourage them to join us during this exciting time at the museum!
In addition we are looking ahead to one of our biggest events, Yulefest, which takes place on November 21 and 22. This popular Nordic Christmas celebration offers traditional Scandinavian entertainment featuring fiddlers, singers, and folk dancers and hand-crafted gifts from our many Nordicinspired vendors to finish your gift shopping early this year! Nordic specialty treats will available at several locations in the Museum, including open-face Scandinavian sandwiches at the Nordic CafĂŠ; krumkake and lefse in the Kaffestuga; and, in the Bodega, glĂśgg and a selection of Nordic beers. As always, we rely on our volunteers to help make it a great success! Information about how to sign up, as well as some special volunteer opportunities are described in detail in the Volunteer Opportunities section. It is a pleasure and a privilege working with you all! Thank you! -Gloria
We continue to receive rave reviews about our new temporary exhibit, Keep Clam and Carry On: The Ivar Haglund Story. On September 24, historian Paul Dorpat will be on hand to tell the unique story of this amazing restauranteur and Puget Sound Legend. Take a look at the events calendar on the last page for details about this event as well as many One of our young volunteers!
