The most popular destinations in Norfolk County are the ports, towns and villages along Lake Erie, known as Ontario’s South Coast. These towns include Port Dover, Port Rowan, Turkey Point and Long Point, as well as Simcoe, Delhi and Waterford. For more information on our communities, visit norfolktourism.ca/towns. Wineries, craft breweries and farm markets highlight Norfolk County’s status as Ontario’s Garden. Outdoor recreation including beaches, boating, camping, hiking, fishing and festivals are key activities. The average high temperature in Norfolk County is 27°C (81°F) in July. The average low temperature is -8.5°C (16°F) in January. Our Communities Delhi Delhi (population 4,240) boasts a diverse ethnic makeup, bringing many cultures together. Large banquet halls feature dances and events throughout the year. Backstage Capitol Theatre has an impressive line-up of live music concerts. Unique to the town is the Delhi Tobacco Museum & Heritage Centre, which preserves the rich history of the tobacco industry. Just north of Delhi is the Ramblin’ Road Brewery Farm, making locally brewed ale, lager and pilsner, as well as kettle chips. To the east in the hamlet of Nixon, enjoy Belgian-style beer at New Limburg Brewing Co. La Salette Historic Church, also north of Delhi, is a

More at norfolktourism.ca/delhi Long Point Long Point is designated as a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization which aims to protect this significant Great Lakes coastal ecosystem and the 50 vulnerable, threatened and endangered species that live within it. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is the steward of the beachfront along the entire stretch of Long Point from the provincial park to the causeway. More at norfolktourism.ca/long-point Port Dover Located on Lake Erie, Port Dover (population 6,161) has an eclectic feel that attracts all ages and walks of life. Savour a foot-long hotdog, an afternoon on the beach, fish from the pier or watch the commercial fishing tugs return with their catch. Lakeshore Fish Co. and Lower Lakes Towing are two of the key employers. Enjoy the town’s arts and culture, live stage performances at Lighthouse Festival Theatre or step back in time at the Port Dover Harbour Museum. There are many restaurants – from cafés to fine dining locations serving local foods and famous Lake Erie perch. As well, downtown Port Dover has an abundance of shops and boutiques. Check out the farmers’ market every Saturday. For hikers and cyclists, the Lynn Valley Trail connects Port Dover and Simcoe. Boaters are welcome at Norfolk County’s Port Dover Harbour Marina. Annual events include the Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Day, Port Dover Perch Derby (Apr-May), PD13 – Friday the 13th, the largest single day motorcycle rally in Canada (Sept 2019, Dec 2019, March 2020, Nov 2020), Canada Day (July), Port Dover Summer Festival (Aug) and Christmas Fest (Nov). More at norfolktourism.ca/port-dover Port Rowan Port Rowan (population 1,102) is located on Lake Erie and is the nearest town to Long Point, offering numerous shops, boutiques and businesses. There are marinas, trailer parks, campgrounds and bed & breakfasts for overnight stays, and a Friday evening farmers market. Area activities include birding, boating, fishing, sailing, and hiking. Canada’s First Forestry Station Interpretive Centre, Backus Heritage Conservation Area and the Erie Shores Wind Farm are located nearby, as well as the national headquarters of Bird Studies Canada. Annual events include Shop the Shore (May and Nov), BayFest (Sept) and fishing tournaments organized by the Long Point Bay Anglers Association. More at norfolktourism.ca/port-rowan Simcoe Simcoe (population 13,992) is Norfolk County’s largest town and home to many key industries, including Canada’s largest ice cream plant (Unilever) and Toyotetsu auto parts plant. Simcoe is home to a lush park system, many heritage sites, museum, arts centre, restaurants, shops, businesses and professional services, several hotels and motels and a full-service hospital. The Lynn Valley Trail connects Simcoe to Port Dover. Farms around Simcoe grow everything from apples and cherries to strawberries and tobacco. Check out the year-round farmers’ market

Annual events include the Norfolk Musical Arts Festival (Feb), Wildlife Festival (March), Eat & Drink Norfolk (Apr), Ice Cream Festival (July), Lynn River Music & Arts Festival (Aug), Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show (Oct) and Simcoe Christmas Panorama (Nov-Dec). More at norfolktourism.ca/simcoe Turkey Point Turkey Point’s two kilometres of groomed sandy beach on Lake Erie offers safe swimming for all ages with ample beach parking. The community is home to Turkey Point Provincial Park campground and golf course. Activities in the area include fishing, hiking and water sports. The beach hamlet has a variety of restaurants, businesses and parks. Long Point Eco-Adventures zip-line, Blueberry Hill Estate Winery, Inasphere Wines and Burning Kiln Winery are located west of Turkey Point. Annual events include Pottahawk (July) and Turkey Point Summer Fest (Aug). More at norfolktourism.ca/turkey-point Waterford Waterford (population 3,132) is home to tree-lined streets with stately heritage homes, shops, restaurants and businesses. The surrounding area is rich with agricultural crops including ginseng, sweet potatoes, cabbage, cherries, apples, maple syrup, lavender and wine. A farmers’ market opens in summer every Wednesday. Visitors can enjoy the exhibits and events at the Waterford Heritage and Agricultural Museum. Explore the sparkling Waterford Ponds - popular for swimming, fishing, boating and picnicking. Deer Park is also a favourite among local families. The Waterford Heritage Trail connects Waterford to Simcoe and Brantford for hiking and cycling. Events include Invasion of the Dragons dragon-boat racing (July) and Waterford Pumpkin Festival (Oct). Whistling Gardens, Canada’s largest privately owned botanical gardens in the Wilsonville area, north of Waterford. Springview Farm Golf Course, Villa Nova Estate Winery and Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery are located southeast of Waterford. More at norfolktourism.ca/waterford Vittoria Many years ago, Vittoria was the judicial capital of the London District of Upper Canada. This quaint village is enjoying a renaissance, including the popular Good Bread Company bakery and a new restaurant. Strawberries, raspberries, apples, asparagus, sweet corn and pumpkins are among the crops grown locally. Two popular farmgate spots nearby are Kernal Peanuts and The Cider Keg Farm Market. South Coast Shuttle Returns for 5th Season with New Fares, More Stops, and New Schedule Ride Norfolk and the Norfolk County Coastal Shuttle Team are tremendously excited to continue the “South Coast Shuttle Service”. For the last four years the service has connected Ontario’s South Coast by travelling through Port Dover, Vittoria, Normandale, Turkey Point, Port Rowan, Long Point and Simcoe. The South Coast Shuttle is a summer season extension of the Ride Norfolk transit service. The shuttle operates Saturdays and Sundays from June 1 – September 1 between 10:30am-7:00pm on Saturdays and 10:30am-5:00pm on Sundays. Making 3-4 stops per day at each destination, the shuttle allows you to ditch the car and explore unique shops, restaurants and beautiful natural areas. Spend a few hours, the day, or enjoy an overnight getaway. Visit many of our local breweries, wineries, beaches, quaint downtowns and other points of interest throughout Norfolk County. Norfolk County Terroir Ten years ago, if you used the word terroir in a conversation with a Norfolk County farmer, they would assume you’re not from around here. Today, the word gets used occasionally (rarely by a Norfolk County farmer or chef) but it is time we shouted it from the rooftops! Terroir – the French word that describes the sense of place expressed in its food – is an urban word. It rhymes with armoire – French for wardrobe. Which is interesting, because the food is wearing the place, when it comes to terroir. Whether we in Norfolk recognize it or not, our geography, our climate, our soil and our food have fantastic terroir. When we asked a local cattle rancher about this, he put it in plain language. “We’re on the Sand Plain so water escapes these soils relatively quickly. What that means is you get flavours that are particularly intense because things are growing in a slightly drier environment,” said Bryan Gilvesy of YU Ranch, an ardent champion of environmental sustainability. “We think our beef is more intense in flavour because our grass is that way.”

We’re also Ontario’s Number One grower of all the fruits and vegetables listed above, plus cabbage, rye and strawberries. Our farmers are also among the province’s leading growers of apples, carrots, cucumbers, green and wax beans, lettuce, potatoes, raspberries, sweet corn and tomatoes. Numerous restaurants in Norfolk County utilize local ingredients on their menus. FeastON, a provincial designation monitored by the Culinary Tourism Alliance, has recognized Blue Elephant Restaurant and The Combine Restaurant, both in Simcoe, and David’s Restaurant in Port Dover with FeastON restaurant status. Yellow Perch and Pickerel, both harvested sustainably from Lake Erie by commercial fishermen such as George Gibbons of the Pleasant Port Fish Company, are also featured at local restaurants.
