Developing skilled young people is vital for a changing economy and extending the opportunities to develop skills is the way to ensure
sustainable economic growth and stability in Wales. With support from the european Social Fund, the Apprenticeship Awards cymru reinforces the Welsh Government’s drive and commitment in supporting skills development and vocational training. The quality of finalist entries was higher than ever this year, which demonstrates the continued success of the Welsh Government’s learning programmes. We are
proud to be delivering one of the most successful apprenticeship programmes in europe with success rates in Wales remaining well above 80%. For individuals, an apprenticeship allows them to earn whilst they learn and gain skills, knowledge and nationally recognised qualifications. Determined Sean grabs second chance to change his life Sean Williams has grabbed his second chance with both hands after turning his life around to set the foundations for a career to support his family. Sean, 27, who lives in St Asaph, is a supervisor with Thorncliffe Abergele, a waste recycling business in Abergele, where he has achieved a Foundation Apprenticeship in Sustainable resource Management. he is now working towards an apprenticeship with learning provider cambrian Training company and hopes to progress to a higher apprenticeship.
he was taken on after being introduced to the company by a probation Service programme, “8 ways to change your life” and offered work experience. Following his release from prison, he had been unemployed for six months and feared he had little prospect of work due to his criminal record. however, Thorncliffe Abergele gave him a chance and he has rewarded the company by working hard and showing an eagerness to learn how to run and maintain new machinery to bale waste to be used as refuse-derived fuel.
“I have challenged myself to change my whole life to one that focuses on my family and provide for them rather than a life of crime,” said Sean. “I had watched friends from school grow up and achieve but it always seemed out of my grasp until now.” Thorncliffe Abergele site manager Steve harper said: “Sean is a very hard working, determined individual who sets a great example to others who have made some wrong choices, showing them that it is possible to successfully turn their lives around.”

From fitness coach to Ford engineer twenty-six-year-old Liam Gill from Swansea has made a rather unusual career change – from personal trainer to engineer. now working as a mechanical engineering apprentice with the ford Motor company, Bridgend, he’s making quite a name for himself by coming up with new ideas that have saved the company more than £80,000 a year. Liam said: “i decided fitness wasn’t a long-term career for me. i’ve always been fascinated by how machinery works and decided to train in engineering.” he attended Bridgend college in the first year, learning workshop skills, maintenance techniques and more. the second year he spent with the training department at Bridgend engine plant, with one day a week in college.
Liam completed his Apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance and Level 3 extend Diploma in engineering Maintenance with distinctions in all modules. “i’m over the moon to have been shortlisted for the award,” he said. “the apprenticeship has been the best thing

Confidence in management – key to success A treorchy woman has rejuvenated her career at the age of 53 thanks to a higher Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management. Janet Bevan, who works for cwm taf University health Board in Llantrisant, already had an occupational therapy degree as well as many other qualifications but, in order to progress her career, needed more confidence. She says the higher Apprenticeship has “transformed” her - so much so, that soon after starting the programme she was promoted to principal occupational therapist for the older person’s Mental health Service. “the knowledge and skills i gained had boosted my confidence in my ability to manage, so after much persuasion i applied for the promotion,” she said. “this happened just as i got married and i had to prepare for my interview whilst on honeymoon!”
Janet managed a team of 19 staff whilst also completing her iLM Level 5 in Leadership and Management and the Management nVQ Diploma Level 5. She attended study days organised by Act Limited and met her assessor every month, but had to complete the work in her own time. “Working full time with the additional management responsibilities, as well as completing the course, was hard but it was worth it,” she said. “i continually use the skills i have gained to improve and develop my team and the service we deliver.” She is now planning to study for the Level 7 Management Award with the iLM. Alyson Davies from cwm taf University health Board’s assistant director of therapies and health science, said: “Janet demonstrates excellent leadership and management to her team and deserves this recognition.”

Recycling company’s ‘inspirational’ approach to employment and training A unique approach to employment and training by an award winning company, which runs a successful waste and recycling site in North Wales, has been described by a training provider as “inspirational”. Thorncliffe Abergele, a family owned company established in Abergele 1987, has reduced the amount of waste going to landfill from 8,384 tonnes in 2013 to 887 tonnes last year and is aiming for zero waste. The company, which has a workforce of 52, has invested in cutting edge equipment, including a new refuse derived fuel processing plant, which bales waste. To achieve its goals, Thorncliffe Abergele launched an apprenticeship programme,
working closely with learning provider Cambrian Training Company, three years ago. The company has recruited 28 apprentices since the programme began and currently has seven working towards a foundation Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management. Working with the Probation Service, the company provides employment and training opportunities to ex-offenders, a programme that won an Inspire! Award for best project for its positive impact in the local community. Site manager Steve harper has also been nominated for a Police Crime Commissioner award for his work with ex-offenders. Apprenticeships key part of Mitel’s core strategy The competitive and growing world of business communications, collaboration software and services means Caldicot-based Mitel must recruit and retain staff who know the sector and customers well. Mitel, a Nasdaq quoted company, has more than 60 million users in 100 countries, is the market share leader in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is a recognised leader in unified communications. The majority of the company’s 340 employees are at its regional headquarters in South Wales where it provides technical assistance to customers and partners.
Mitel began its apprenticeship programme in 2007 and currently employs five apprentices, all of whom have been taken on in the past year. Mitel recruits and trains apprentices within its customer services division to plug the skills gap, training young people with no previous technical skills. Current apprentices focus on IT technical support and follow the IT, software, web and telecoms professionals apprenticeship framework. “Our apprenticeship programme is an integral part to Mitel’s core strategy, which is linked to growing our cloud business and business in the contact centre market,” said
Tim Gwatkin, human resources manager. “We had been finding it increasingly difficult to find candidates with the right mix of technical skills in addition to the ability to effectively support and interact with customers.” Working with training provider Acorn Learning Solutions, the company has developed an effective two-year apprenticeship programme. “The apprenticeship programme gives young people the opportunity to develop their skills within the IT sector and in return they add real value to the business,” said Sean Driscoll, corporate development manager at Acorn Learning Solutions.

Staff retention at EE boosted by apprenticeship programme As one of the largest digital communications companies in the UK, EE is at the forefront of innovation, serving more than 30 million customers. The company employs more than 750 frontline and support staff at its Merthyr Tydfil centre and apprenticeships form a significant part of its learning and development programme, underpinning its values of ‘Bold, Clear and Brilliant’. EE was the first Welsh limited company to achieve Investor in People Gold status and was crowned ‘Best Place to Work’ at the 2012 European Contact Centre Awards. The company established its apprenticeship programme three years ago with the aim of reducing the number of people leaving the organisation in their first year. The company currently employs 251 apprentices. “We had 57% of our frontline employees leaving in the first year which resulted in

a significant training and recruitment cost,” said Nicola Watkins, team lead at EE’s customer services at Merthyr Tydfil. That figure has dropped to 30% since the introduction of the apprenticeship programme, working in partnership with learning provider, The College, Merthyr Tydfil. The college and EE formed a partnership specifically to develop a programme to both support business retention and recruit young people from the local area. “Apprentice teams continue to be the preferred intake instead of past experience. Engagement levels have increased and sickness levels have also reduced, which is worth £300,000 annually,” added Nicola. EE in the UK plans to have provided 1,300 apprenticeships by the end of the year.

Creative approach pays dividends for Louisa cardiff’s Louisa gregory has been nominated as Work-based Learning Practitioner of the Year because of her energy, enthusiasm and creative approach to learning. Louisa, 28, has worked for act training for three years and is now the fast track Programme co-ordinator. “i want every learner to achieve their potential,” she said. “i try to use innovative teaching methods and inspire them to be creative and curious.” she encourages young people to use technology; some of her learners have created an animated video of the importance of communication for employment. Louisa also encourages them to get involved in the raising money for local charities. she said: “i have a huge passion
for what i do. seeing a young person engaged and inspired to learn, as well as taking on new challenges, really motivates me. i was delighted that in 2014/15, 27 of the 30 learners i worked with, went on to secure full time employment.” one of her learners, aimee-Louise Page, now works for the hr department at act. she said: “i couldn’t speak anymore highly of Louisa. i believe that she has made my time at act as a learner more effective than the years i spent in school and i could not thank her enough for what she has done for me.” Louisa, who is working towards an iLM Level 3 in Management, is also a keen advocate of social media and uses twitter and her blog to network and share best practice.

Cory’s bedding into a new career
Saffron battles through personal tragedy “my life is happy now and i know almost anything is possible.” those are the words of saffron tinnuche who has overcome tragedy in her life to set up the prospect of a dream job as a butlins redcoat. aged only 10, she was taken into the care of her aunt and uncle as her parents struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. as a result her schooling suffered as she was left with crippling confidence issues. she was finally getting her life together, rebuilding a relationship with her mum and thriving on a performing arts course at coleg sir gâr in llanelli, when her mum died. she then discovered her father had died weeks earlier. despite being named student of the year, the 18-year-old from pontarddulais was unable to progress to a higher
qualification as she lacked the entry requirements and instead set her sights on becoming a butlins redcoat. she took up a traineeship placement through the college with a children’s play centre where she flourished in both organising and performing at parties and this experience led to an audition and a dream job with butlins. now with her uncle seriously ill, saffron has temporarily returned to her traineeship, with butlins keeping a place open for her as a redcoat. steve Kelshaw, director of learning support at coleg sir gâr, said: “i have never met anybody who is a better role model for showing other young people who face personal barriers what can be achieved.”
after a year working with cardiff-based training provider act limited, cory rowlands knows where his future lies – with cardiff bed store. the 18-year-old from barry was given work experience with the company and that has progressed into a full-time sales position with the family-run business. personal issues meant that cory left school with few qualifications but he blossomed during his time with act limited, completing a customer service traineeship level 1 alongside other essential skills qualifications. act limited recognised cory’s great communication and interpersonal skills but had to work hard to develop his application of number skills, an essential part of working within retail. cory has always gone the extra mile; he has waxed his legs for charity, attended act employ me days and volunteered to work at skills cymru 2014 at motorpoint arena in cardiff. it was this positive attitude that led cardiff bed store owner dennis maunder to give cory a full-time position. “cory is a great lad, hardworking, punctual, reliable and polite and can confidently sell all of
our products,” he said. “it can be a risk taking on somebody so young with little experience but he is doing a fantastic job.” cory said: “i have progressed so much with the help of act limited. now i am determined to show my employer that they made the right choice.” act limited’s marketing manager Jayne mcgill-harris said: “it is so refreshing to come across a young person who has found their true calling in life.”
Jobs growth wales outstanding achiever of the year Rhys LLoyd
Motivational Rhys – a great role model rhys lloyd, who suffers with dyslexia, left school early with no qualifications. for several years his attempts to find regular work were held back by his struggles with mathematics and english. but a six-month Jobs growth wales placement through cardiff-based learning provider itec skills and employment as a production operative with gm polystyrene, and the support of company owner graham middleton, has given rhys the chance to turn his life around. he showed determination to make this position work when he invested in a car to make the daily journey from his then home in cardiff to hengoed. having completed the placement, the company offered rhys a full-time position and a level 2 foundation apprenticeship in
warehousing through the young recruits programme. graham said of the 24-year-old: “rhys is one of the best workers i have employed in 26 years. his ambition and drive is motivational to any young person struggling to access the jobs market. he is a team player always happy to go over and above.” rhys continues to receive mathematics and english tuition and is expanding his skills with the company which is a leading supplier of shaped polystyrene for packaging. rhys said: “i am proud of what i have achieved but it is only the beginning. i will always be grateful to graham for this opportunity.”

Silver awards for neisha – proving apprenticeships really are the way forward educ8’s learner, neisha ponting (an employee at age Connect Morgannwg in rCt) is a shining example of how apprenticeships can build an individual’s confidence and self-esteem as well as developing award-winning skills and competencies. neisha, who completed her Level 2 apprenticeship in Health and Social Care and immediately progressed to her Level 3 framework in May 2015, demonstrated such commitment and desire to learn that educ8 supported her to enter the Welsh Skills Competition for Health and Social Care earlier this year; and she achieved truly amazing results! the competition comprised
13 shortlisted finalists who were judged on their ability to complete a carefully designed activity which tested their skills in a range of critical elements that are essential to working in the sector. the activity involved participating in a simulated scenario whereby an elderly dementia sufferer required help and support to cope with everyday life. this activity was followed by a multiplechoice test and the scores were amalgamated to determine those who should win the bronze, silver and gold awards. By putting her apprenticeship training into practice, neisha scored exceptionally well in both elements of the competition and scooped
the silver award for the whole of Wales. furthermore, she went on to compete at uK-level and scooped silver at this event also! during the feedback session, the judges commented that: “neisha’s skills for working with vulnerable people shone through in her performance and she provided us with complete reassurance that she had the ability to care for someone like ‘Mrs Jones’ exceptionally well. put it this way, I would feel confident knowing that my elderly mother was being cared for by neisha.” neisha demonstrates tremendous skills, a caring attitude and empathy in her job role and educ8 felt that entering the competition would allow her to harness her
talent and abilities and aim for even greater success and recognition. upon winning the award, neisha commented: “It’s a great privilege to receive this award. I had never worked in the care industry before I joined age Connect Morgannwg but I have learnt so much from my apprenticeship and also everyone that I work with and now I feel confident that I’m doing a good job and hopefully bringing a little bit of happiness to the lives of my service users. even though I have won I feel it just represents how we work as a team at the company – everyone is so passionate about what we do and the clients we work with, it’s a fantastic job!” this is the first year that educ8
Ltd has engaged in the skills competitions but it recognises the events as a great way to encourage talented and able apprentices to aim for the stars, and be recognised for excellence in the sectors in which they work; it hopes to enter even more learners next year.

Gyrfa gyfforddus i Cory ym myd y gwelyau
Saffron yn brwydro trwy drychineb bersonol “Mae fy mywyd yn hapus erbyn hyn ac rwy’n gwybod bod bron unrhyw beth yn bosib.” Dyna eiriau Saffron Tinnuche sydd wedi dod dros drychineb yn ei bywyd i anelu at swydd ei breuddwydion fel Redcoat yn Butlins. Pan oedd yn ddim ond 10 oed, bu’n rhaid iddi symud i ofal ei ewythr a’i modryb gan fod ei rhieni’n cael trafferthion gydag alcohol a chyffuriau. Roedd ei haddysg yn dioddef ac roedd yn eithriadol o ddihyder. Ymhen amser, dechreuodd pethau wella iddi. Roedd yn ailadeiladu perthynas gyda’i mam ac yn gwneud yn dda ar gwrs Celfyddydau Perfformio yng Ngholeg Sir gâr yn Llanelli pan fu farw ei mam. Yna, cafodd wybod bod ei thad wedi marw ychydig wythnosau cyn hynny. Er iddi gael ei henwi’n Fyfyriwr y Flwyddyn, doedd
y ferch 18 oed o Bontarddulais ddim yn gallu symud ymlaen i wneud cymhwyster uwch gan nad oedd yn bodloni’r gofynion mynediad. Yn lle hynny, penderfynodd anelu at fod yn Redcoat yn Butlins. Cafodd leoliad Hyfforddeiaeth trwy’r coleg mewn canolfan chwarae i blant. Roedd yn gwneud yn ardderchog yno’n trefnu partïon ac yn perfformio ynddynt ac fe arweiniodd hyn at glyweliad a swydd ei breuddwydion yn Butlins. gan fod ei hewythr yn ddifrifol wael, mae Saffron wedi dychwelyd ei Hyfforddeiaeth dros dro ac mae Butlins yn cadw lle iddi fel Redcoat. Dywedodd Steve Kelshaw, cyfarwyddwr cefnogi dysgu yng Ngholeg Sir gâr: “Chwrddais i erioed â neb sy’n well esiampl i ddangos i bobl ifanc eraill sy’n wynebu rhwystrau personol beth y mae modd ei gyflawni.”
Ar ôl blwyddyn yn gweithio gyda darparwr hyfforddiant ACT Limited o gaerdydd, mae Cory Rowlands yn edrych ymlaen at yrfa gyda Cardiff Bed Store. Cafodd y bachgen 18 oed o’r Barri brofiad gwaith gyda’r cwmni ac erbyn hyn mae’n gweithio llawn amser yn gwerthu gwelyau gyda’r busnes teuluol. Oherwydd problemau personol, gadawodd Cory yr ysgol heb lawer o gymwysterau ond cafodd ei draed dano yn ystod ei gyfnod gydag ACT Limited, gan gwblhau Hyfforddeiaeth Lefel 1 mewn gwasanaethau Cwsmeriaid a chymwysterau Sgiliau Hanfodol eraill. Roedd ACT Limited yn gweld bod gan Cory sgiliau cyfathrebu a sgiliau rhyngbersonol gwych ond roedd rhaid iddynt weithio’n galed ar ei sgiliau Cymhwyso Rhif – sy’n rhan bwysig o waith manwerthu. Mae Cory bob amser yn barod i fynd yr ail filltir; mae wedi cael wacsio’i goesau at achos da, mae wedi bod yn Nyddiau Cyflogwch Fi ACT a bu’n gwirfoddoli yn Skills Cymru 2014 yn Arena Motorpoint Caerdydd. Agwedd gadarnhaol Cory a berswadiodd perchennog y Cardiff Bed
Store, Dennis Maunder, i roi swydd lawn amser iddo. ”Mae Cory’n foi da, yn gweithio’n galed, yn cyrraedd yn brydlon, yn ddibynadwy ac yn gwrtais ac mae ganddo’r hyder i werthu ein holl gynnyrch,” meddai. “gall fod yn risg cymryd rhywun mor ifanc gyda chyn lleied o brofiad ond mae’n gwneud gwaith gwych.” Meddai Cory: “Dw i wedi symud ymlaen yn dda gyda help ACT Limited. Nawr, rwy’n benderfynol o ddangos i fy nghyflogwyr eu bod nhw wedi gwneud y dewis iawn.” Dywedodd rheolwr marchnata ACT Limited, Jayne Mcgill-Harris: “Mae mor braf dod ar draws rhywun ifanc sy’n gwybod yn iawn beth mae eisiau ei wneud mewn bywyd.”

Brwdfrydedd Rhys yn esiampl i eraill gwaith Warws trwy’r rhaglen Recriwtiaid Newydd. Meddai graham am y dyn ifanc 24 oed: “Mae Rhys yn un o’r gweithwyr gorau rwy wedi’u cyflogi mewn 26 o flynyddoedd. Mae ei uchelgais a’i frwdfrydedd yn esiampl i unrhyw berson ifanc sy’n cael trafferth cael ei droed i mewn i’r farchnad swyddi. Mae’n dda am weithio mewn tîm ac mae bob amser yn barod i fynd yr ail filltir.” Mae Rhys yn dal i gael gwersi Mathemateg a Saesneg ac mae’n ehangu ei sgiliau gyda’r cwmni sy’n un o brif gyflenwyr siapiau polystyren ar gyfer pecynnu. Meddai Rhys: “Rwy’n falch o’r hyn yr ydw i wedi’i gyflawni ond dim ond y dechrau yw hyn. Byddaf i’n ddiolchgar am byth i graham am y cyfle hwn.”

Ond, ar ôl lleoliad chwe mis gyda Twf Swyddi Cymru trwy’r darparwr dysgu o gaerdydd, Itec Skills and Employment, fel gweithiwr cynhyrchu gyda gM Polystyrene a gyda chymorth perchennog y cwmni, graham Middleton, mae Rhys yn edrych tua’r dyfodol. Dangosodd ei fod yn benderfynol o wneud i’r gwaith weithio trwy fuddsoddi mewn car i wneud y daith ddyddiol o’i gartref ar y pryd yng Nghaerdydd, i Hengoed. Ar ôl cwblhau’r lleoliad, cynigiodd y cwmni swydd lawn-amser i Rhys a Phrentisiaeth Sylfaen Lefel 2 mewn

Partneriaethau ACT yn cynnig cyfleoedd gwych i ddysgu mae’r darparwr hyfforddiant aCt limited, sydd wedi ennill nifer o wobrau, yn cydweithio â rhwydwaith o bartneriaid i wella ansawdd yr hyn a gynigir i ddysgwyr ledled Cymru a’u profiad ohono. ers sefydlu’r cwmni o gaerdydd yn 1988, mae wedi meithrin cannoedd o gysylltiadau symbiotig gyda phartneriaid corfforaethol, 23 o is-gontractwyr, ysgolion a’r rhwydwaith dysgu seiliedig ar waith yn ehangach er mwyn sicrhau canlyniadau da i bobl ifanc. enillodd y cwmni’r wobr i ddarparwr am Ymatebolrwydd Cymdeithasol yng ngwobrau Prentisiaethau Cymru y llynedd. mae ganddo 2,161 o ddysgwyr ar ei lyfrau ac mae rhwydwaith cyfan aCt yn cyflenwi rhaglenni dysgu i 4,331 o unigolion ledled Cymru. mae’r rhwydwaith yn cyflenwi rhaglenni hyfforddeiaethau, Prentisiaethau a dysgu i weithio mewn 22 gwahanol sector. “mae aCt yn credu’n angerddol mewn gwneud gwahaniaeth er gwell ym mywydau pobl trwy gynnig cyfleoedd
dysgu eithriadol ac mae’n rhannu’r weledigaeth hon gyda’i bartneriaid er mwyn sicrhau bod pawb yn gweithio tua’r un nod,” meddai Jayne mcgillharris, rheolwr marchnata a chysylltiadau cyhoeddus aCt. maent wedi meithrin cysylltiadau â phartneriaid allweddol, yn cynnwys nwy Prydain a’r gig yng nghymru, banciau natwest a Barclays, gyrfa Cymru a Chanolfan Byd gwaith. Yn ogystal, mae aCt wedi sefydlu dwy ‘ysgol’ ar gyfer disgyblion 14-16 oed sydd wedi’u dieithrio o addysg brif ffrwd ac mae estyn wedi canmol y cwmni am arferion da yn ei waith gyda dysgwyr o grwpiau cymunedol sydd heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol. un aelod o rwydwaith aCt o ddarparwyr hyfforddiant yw talk training a dywedodd eu cyfarwyddwr gweithrediadau, alison anthony: “mae’r bartneriaeth yn cynnig cyfleoedd ar gyfer cymwysterau mwy amrywiol, sy’n addas ar gyfer diddordebau ehangach dysgwyr a chyflogwyr.”

Agwedd greadigol yn dwyn ffrwyth i Louisa enwebwyd louisa gregory o gaerdydd yn Ymarferydd y flwyddyn dysgu seiliedig ar waith oherwydd ei hynni, ei brwdfrydedd a’i hagwedd greadigol at ddysgu. Bu louisa, sy’n 28 oed, yn gweithio i aCt limited ers tair blynedd ac erbyn hyn hi yw cydlynydd y rhaglen gyflym. “rwy’n awyddus i bob dysgwr gyflawni ei botensial,” meddai. “rwy’n ceisio defnyddio dulliau dysgu arloesol ac ysbrydoli’r dysgwyr i fod yn greadigol ac yn chwilfrydig.” mae’n annog pobl ifanc i ddefnyddio technoleg; mae rhai o’i dysgwyr wedi creu fideo animeiddio yn sôn am bwysigrwydd cyfathrebu mewn gwaith. Yn ogystal, mae louisa’n eu hannog i godi arian at elusennau lleol. meddai: “rwy’n credu’n gryf yn yr hyn rwy’n ei wneud. mae gweld person ifanc yn cymryd diddordeb ac yn cael ei
ysbrydoli i ddysgu, ac yn wynebu heriau newydd, yn rhoi hwb mawr i mi. roeddwn i wrth fy modd bod 27 o’r 30 o ddysgwyr roeddwn i’n gweithio gyda nhw yn 2014/15 wedi mynd ymlaen i gael gwaith llawn amser.” erbyn hyn, mae un o’i dysgwyr, aimee-louise Page, yn gweithio i adran adnoddau dynol aCt. meddai: “allwn i ddim siarad yn uwch am louisa. rwy’n credu ei bod wedi gwneud fy nghyfnod i fel dysgwr gydag aCt yn fwy effeithiol na’r blynyddoedd a dreuliais yn yr ysgol ac allwn i ddim diolch digon iddi am yr hyn y mae wedi’i wneud drosof.” mae louisa, sy’n gweithio tuag at lefel 3 ilm mewn rheolaeth, hefyd yn credu’n gryf mewn defnyddio’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol ac mae’n defnyddio’i blog a twitter i rwydweithio a rhannu arferion gorau.

Prentisiaethau’n rhan allweddol o strategaeth graidd Mitel Mae byd cystadleuol cyfathrebu mewn busnes, a meddalwedd a gwasanaethau cydweithredu yn golygu ei bod yn rhaid i gwmni Mitel o Gil-y-coed recriwtio a chadw staff sy’n adnabod y sector a’r cwsmeriaid yn dda. Mae gan Mitel, sydd wedi’i restru ar gyfnewidfa Nasdaq, dros 60 miliwn o ddefnyddwyr mewn cant o wledydd; ef sydd â’r gyfran fwyaf o’r farchnad yn Ewrop, y Dwyrain Canol ac Affrica a chydnabyddir ei fod ar flaen y gad ym maes cyfathrebu unedig. Mae Mitel yn recriwtio ac yn hyfforddi prentisiaid yn ei adran gwasanaethau cwsmeriaid er mwyn llenwi’r bwlch sgiliau, gan hyfforddi pobl ifanc oedd heb sgiliau technegol cynt. Mae’r prentisiaid presennol yn canolbwyntiio ar gymorth technegol TG ac yn dilyn fframwaith Prentisiaethau Gweithwyr Proffesiynol Technoleg Gwybodaeth, Meddalwedd, Gwefannau a Thelathrebu. “Mae ein rhaglen Brentisiaethau’n rhan hanfodol o strategaeth graidd Mitel, sy’n gysylltiedig â chynyddu ein busnes ‘cwmwl’ a busnes yn y

Y rhaglen brentisiaethau’n helpu EE i gadw staff Mae cwmni arloesol EE yn un o’r cwmnïau cyfathrebu digidol mwyaf yn y Deyrnas Unedig ac mae’n gwasanaethu dros 30 miliwn o gwsmeriaid. Mae’r cwmni’n cyflogi dros 750 o staff rheng flaen a staff cefnogi yn ei ganolfan ym Merthyr Tudful ac mae Prentisiaethau’n rhan fawr o’i raglen dysgu a datblygu, gan ategu ei werthoedd, sef “Bold, Clear and Brilliant”.” EE oedd y cwmni cyfyngedig cyntaf o Gymru i ennill statws Aur, Buddsoddwyr mewn Pobl, ac enillodd wobr y “Lle Gorau i Weithio” yng Ngwobrau Canolfannau Cyswllt Ewropeaidd 2012. Sefydlodd y cwmni ei raglen Brentisiaethau dair blynedd yn ôl. Un o’r prif resymau oedd i geisio sicrhau bod llai o bobl yn gadael y cwmni yn eu blwyddyn gyntaf. Ar hyn o bryd, mae’r cwmni’n cyflogi 251 o brentisiaid. “Ar un adeg, roedd 57 y cant o’n gweithwyr rheng flaen yn

gadael yn y flwyddyn gyntaf ac roedd hynny’n gostus iawn o safbwynt hyfforddi a recriwtio,” meddai Nicola Watkins, arweinydd tîm yn adran Gwasanaethau Cwsmeriaid EE ym Merthyr Tudful. Mae’r ffigwr hwnnw wedi gostwng i 30 y cant ers i ni gyflwyno’r rhaglen Brentisiaethau, gan gydweithio â’r darparwr dysgu, Y Coleg, Merthyr Tudful. Ffurfiodd Y Coleg ac EE bartneriaeth yn arbennig er mwyn datblygu rhaglen i helpu’r busnes i gadw staff ac i recriwtio pobl ifanc o’r ardal. “Mae’n well gennym gymryd timau o brentisiaid i mewn na phobl â phrofiad. Mae lefelau brwdfrydedd wedi codi ac absenoldeb salwch wedi lleihau, ac mae hynny’n werth £300,000 y flwyddyn,” meddai Nicola. Nod EE yn y Deyrnas Unedig yw darparu 1,300 o Brentisiaethau erbyn diwedd y flwyddyn.

Deintyddfa’n ymrwymo i hyfforddi talent ifanc Pan oedd Bridge Dental Care yn Nhrecelyn, ger Caerffili, yn awyddus i ehangu, penderfynwyd recriwtio pobl ifanc i’r tîm trwy’r rhaglen Brentisiaethau. Erbyn hyn, mae dau brentis yn gweithio tuag at Brentisiaeth mewn Nyrsio Deintyddol yn y ddeintyddfa sy’n cyflogi 16 aelod o staff. Agwedd “ysbrydoledig” at gyflogi a hyfforddi gan gwmni ailgylchu “Ysbrydoledig!” Dyna ddisgrifiad darparwr hyfforddiant o’r agwedd unigryw at gyflogi a hyfforddi sydd gan gwmni sy’n rhedeg safle gwastraff ac ailgylchu llwyddiannus yn y gogledd. Mae Thorncliffe Abergele, cwmni teuluol a sefydlwyd yn Abergele yn 1987, wedi lleihau swm y gwastraff sy’n mynd i safleoedd tirlenwi o 8,384 tunnell yn 2013 i 887 tunnell y llynedd a’i nod yw ei leihau eto, i ddim. Mae gan y cwmni 52 o weithwyr ac mae wedi buddsoddi yn yr offer diweddaraf, yn cynnwys offer prosesu tanwydd sy’n deillio o sbwriel, sy’n belio gwastraff. Er mwyn cyrraedd ei dargedau, lansiodd Thorncliffe Abergele raglen Brentisiaethau dair

tra oedd yn cwblhau ei ilM lefel 5 mewn Arwain a rheoli a diploma nVQ mewn rheoli, lefel 5. roedd yn mynd i ddiwrnodau astudio a drefnwyd gan ACt limited ac yn cwrdd â’i hasesydd bob mis ond roedd rhaid iddi wneud y gwaith yn ei hamser ei hunan. “roedd yn anodd gweithio llawn amser, cymryd y cyfrifoldebau rheoli ychwanegol a chwblhau’r cwrs ar yr un pryd ond roedd yn werth yr ymdrech,” meddai. “rwy’n dal i ddefnyddio’r sgiliau a ddysgais er mwyn gwella a datblygu fy nhîm a’r gwasanaeth yr ydym yn ei gynnig.” erbyn hyn, mae’n bwriadu astudio ar gyfer y dyfarniad rheoli lefel 7 gyda’r ilM. dywedodd Alyson davies cyfarwyddwr cynorthwyol therapïau a gwyddor iechyd gyda Bwrdd iechyd Prifysgol Cwm taf: “Mae Janet yn dangos arweiniad a rheolaeth ardderchog gyda’i thîm ac mae’n haeddu’r gydnabyddiaeth hon.”

Mae menyw o dreorci wedi adfywio’i gyrfa a hithau’n 53 oed, diolch i Brentisiaeth Uwch mewn Arwain a rheoli. roedd gan Janet Bevan, sy’n gweithio i Fwrdd iechyd Prifysgol Cwm taf yn llantrisant, radd mewn therapi Galwedigaethol a llawer o gymwysterau eraill ond, er mwyn symud ymlaen yn ei gyrfa, roedd arni angen rhagor o hyder. dywed fod y Brentisiaeth Uwch wedi’i “thrawsnewid” – i’r fath raddau nes iddi gael ei dyrchafu’n brif therapydd galwedigaethol y Gwasanaeth iechyd Meddwl Pobl hyˆ n yn fuan ar ôl dechrau ar y rhaglen. “roedd yr wybodaeth a’r sgiliau a ddysgais yn ddigon i roi hwb i fy hyder yn fy ngallu i reoli ac felly, ar ôl llawer o berswâd, fe wnes i gais am ddyrchafiad,” meddai. “digwyddodd hyn tua’r adeg yr oeddwn i’n priodi ac felly roedd rhaid i mi baratoi ar gyfer y cyfweliad ar fy mis mêl!” roedd Janet yn rheoli tîm o 19 o staff

Gwobrau’n dathlu rhagoriaeth a llwyddiant eithriadol Mae Gwobrau Prentisiaethau Cymru, a drefnir gan Lywodraeth Cymru mewn partneriaeth â Ffederasiwn Hyfforddiant Cenedlaethol Cymru (NTfW), yn dathlu llwyddiant eithriadol rhai sydd wedi rhagori ar ddisgwyliadau ym maes prentisiaethau a mathau eraill o raglenni dysgu seiliedig ar waith Mae gennym ni yma yng nghymru nifer o brentisiaid a dysgwyr sy’n wirioneddol eithriadol, ac mae Gwobrau Prentisiaethau Cymru yn gyfle perffaith inni ddathlu eu gwaith caled a’u llwyddiant. Mae hefyd yr un mor bwysig dathlu cyfraniad y darparwyr hyfforddiant a’r cyflogwyr hynny sy’n gwneud popeth yn eu gallu i gefnogi eu prentisiaid. Mae’n hanfodol mewn economi sy’n newid o hyd bod pobl ifanc yn cael dysgu a datblygu - a rhaid ehangu’r cyfleoedd iddynt wneud hynny os
ydym am sicrhau twf a sefydlogrwydd economaidd sy’n gynaliadwy. Gyda chymorth Cronfa Gymdeithasol ewrop, mae Gwobrau Prentisiaethau Cymru’n ategu nod ac ymrwymiad llywodraeth Cymru i ddarparu cyfleoedd i ddatblygu sgiliau a dilyn hyfforddiant galwedigaethol. roedd ansawdd y ceisiadau eleni’n uwch nag erioed, sy’n dangos bod llwyddiant rhaglenni dysgu llywodraeth Cymru yn parhau. testun balchder inni yw bod ein rhaglenni prentisiaethau ni ymhlith y mwyaf llwyddiannus yn
ewrop, gydag ymhell dros 80% o’n prentisiaid yn llwyddo. i’r unigolyn, mae prentisiaeth yn gyfle i ennill cyflog wrth ddysgu ac ennill sgiliau, gwybodaeth a chymwysterau sy’n cael eu cydnabod yn rhyngwladol. i fusnes, mae prentisiaeth yn dod â manteision tymor hir mewn meysydd megis gwella cynhyrchiant a helpu i greu gweithlu ymroddedig, brwdfrydig ac ymatebol. llongyfarchiadau mawr felly i’r enillwyr ac i bawb sydd wedi cyrraedd y rownd derfynol ym mhob categori

Prentis sylfaen y flwyddyn SEAN WILLIAMS
Sean yn benderfynol o fanteisio ar ail gyfle i newid ei fywyd Mae sean williams wedi gafael yn ei ail gyfle gyda’r ddwy law er mwyn cael cychwyn newydd a gosod sylfeini gyrfa i gynnal ei deulu. Mae sean, sy’n 27 oed ac yn byw yn llanelwy, yn oruchwyliwr gyda thorncliffe abergele, busnes ailgylchu gwastraff yn abergele, lle mae wedi gwneud Prentisiaeth sylfaen mewn rheoli adnoddau Cynaliadwy. ar hyn o bryd, mae’n gweithio tuag at Brentisiaeth gyda’r darparwr dysgu, Cwmni Hyfforddiant Cambrian, ac yn gobeithio symud ymlaen i Brentisiaeth Uwch.
Cafodd ei gyflogi ar ôl cael ei gyflwyno i’r cwmni gan raglen y Gwasanaeth Prawf, “8 ffordd i newid eich bywyd” a chael cynnig profiad gwaith. ar ôl ei ryddhau o’r carchar, bu’n ddi-waith am chwe mis ac roedd yn poeni na fyddai’n cael gwaith oherwydd ei record droseddol. fodd bynnag, rhoddodd thorncliffe abergele gyfle iddo ac mae wedi talu ‘nôl i’r cwmni trwy weithio’n galed a dangos ei fod yn frwd i ddysgu sut i redeg a chynnal a chadw peiriannau newydd i felio gwastraff i’w ddefnyddio fel tanwydd yn deillio o sbwriel.
“dwi wedi fy herio fy hunan i newid fy mywyd yn llwyr i ganolbwyntio ar fy nheulu a darparu ar eu cyfer nhw yn hytrach na byw bywyd o droseddu,” meddai sean. “roeddwn i wedi gweld ffrindiau ysgol yn tyfu ac yn cyflawni pethau ond roedd hynny’n ymddangos y tu hwnt i fy ngafael i tan rwˆan.” dywedodd rheolwr thorncliffe abergele, steve Harper: “Mae sean yn gweithio’n galed ac mae’n benderfynol. Mae’n esiampl wych i bobl eraill sydd wedi gwneud dewisiadau anghywir. Mae’n dangos bod posib i rywun gael dechrau newydd.”
