You may have noticed we have a new name and a new look! We spent the month of February polling our readers and advertisers and something very important was brought to our attention. Our name was causing some confusion and leading many of you to believe the magazine was for the women in the La Costa area only. We are not a publication for one particular area. Our goal is to reach the amazing women in all of North County! So, with that being said, we are now officially North County Woman magazine!

One thing that hasn’t changed is the foundation of the magazine. It is still about celebrating the remarkable women in North County. As a woman, I have shared some of the best and worst moments of my life with my female posse of friends. They have inspired, consoled, dreamed, laughed, cried with, and cheered me on throughout various stages in my life. They have taught me the beauty of friendship and the fulfillment it can bring to a woman’s life. As we embark upon our second issue, we hope that you will continue to honor the spectacular women in your life, and may North County Woman introduce you to many new inspirational women right in your own back yards! Relax, enjoy and keep sending us your emails - we listen! Is there something you’d like to see in our magazine? Let us know! Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and stay in the know! Thank you for taking the time to check us out and for all of the amazing support so many of you have given to the magazine! Fulfilling my dream would not be possible without all of you! Cheers!

Skin Care

Why

?

Botox America Daschle Director of Reueviné MedSpa

W

hen our muscles contract over and over, such as when we squint in the sun, the muscles develop a memory. The normal aging of our skin, in conjunction with the breakdown of collagen and elastin, causes wrinkles; especially around our eyes thus creating what is commonly known as “crow’s feet”. In addition, the “elevens” between our eyebrows appear to make us look angry. These are two of the reasons we need Botox.

Botox is a protein derivative of the Botulinum toxin, which, when injected into a muscle weakens or inactivates the signal from the nerve to the muscle, preventing the muscle from contracting. Reducing the amount of movement in the muscles stops the skin from creasing, allowing it to recover, resulting in the softening of the wrinkles. 4 | North County Woman Spring 2013

?

In many cases, keeping up with Botox treatments can even make the wrinkle disappear. Botox has been around for 30 years and was originally used to help treat cross eyes and uncontrollable blinking. It has since been used to treat multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and cerebral palsy. When doctors noticed it had the ability to diminish and remove wrinkles, they felt they were on to something big! Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 to be used cosmetically and is now a billion-dollar industry. Botox is also used for migraines and to reduce sweating under the arms (hyperhidrosis). Some celebrities even inject Botox into the balls of their feet to keep them from slipping out of their shoes. Botox is injected directly into the muscle with an extremely tiny needle that causes very little discomfort. When injected properly it is unlikely to spread throughout your body, making Botox very safe and effective. There are two downsides to Botox: It takes 4-14 days to take effect; therefore one does not experience immediate gratification; secondly, you will get hooked on your improved appearance! Botox lasts about 3-4 months; however, as it wears off, your appearance will return to its original state — a look you can avoid by receiving more Botox.

I have heard people say, “I’ve tried Botox and I didn’t like it so I will never try it again.” This makes me sad because in most instances minor problems can be fixed. The majority of the time, people do not like Botox is because of over treatment or misplacement. When someone asks about Botox treatments, I like to to give them the following comparison: Botox is like going to a new hairdresser. The first time you see the stylist they might not be able to get your color or cut quite right, but after they get to know your hair, they get it right every time and you are hooked on them for years. The same applies when getting Botox. Once your injector knows how your body responds, he or she will be better able to help you achieve the look you desire. It is then that your loyalty will endure. Preparing for a Botox treatment: If you take medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen or prescription blood thinners, consult with your primary care provider about stopping these medications for at least 72 hours prior to being injected, as these medications cause increased risk of bruising and bleeding. • Do not take Fish Oil, Ginko Biloba or Vitamin E (vitamin E in a multi-vitamin is okay) for 7 days prior to treatment. • Do not receive treatment if pregnant or nursing. • To avoid bruising you may want to take Arnica Montana tablets the day before treatment. • Discuss health conditions and medications with your medical practitioner. Last, but not least, be wary of extremely discounted offers on Botox. Botox is only as good as the injector and to ensure your desired results the dosage needs to be accurate. Discounted Botox may be tempting; however, the discount may come in the form of getting less than what you paid for. Do your research and entrust in the services of a reputable office for your beauty needs. At Rejeuviné MedSpa, our board-certified plastic surgeon trains all of our injectors.

Napkin W DEBATE Where To Put It When You Get Up From The Table Andie Beyer Green

e all know there are rules about which utensil to use and when at a meal, but the napkin is the one constant at every meal that has rules of its own.

Beginning of the Meal In formal settings, the host or hostess puts his or her napkin in the lap, signaling guests to follow suit. In today’s society, most of us immediately put our napkins in our laps, which is perfectly acceptable. The napkin is not for wiping (unless you are three years old or younger), but for dabbing or blotting during the meal. The dabbing is also to be done before taking a drink to avoid smudges on the glass. Better yet, go light on the lipstick before the meal to avoid worry over those smudges. The napkin debate is about where to place your napkin when getting up from the table. Leaving The Table Mid-Meal When you get up from the table mid-meal, do you put the napkin on the seat of the chair? This is a common practice so it is accepted. In fact, the napkin is to be placed soil-side down to the left of your plate. Why not the chair? There are a few reasons: Food from the napkin can get on the chair and then possibly be transferred to your person.

1. 2.

Don’t think too much about this, but we are talking about the seat of a chair that has been used by many— some with good hygiene …

hen I first met Julieann, I was immediately drawn to her warm demeanor. She’s one of those women you meet for the first time and feel like you’ve been friends with her since childhood. She’s witty, unbelievably intelligent, vibrant, and has a megawatt smile! She’s charming and so well spoken. She compels you to WANT to have a conservation with her! Am I interviewing Julia Roberts? Because this is how I imagine it would be. You meet her and you can’t help but think I would love to spend a day with this woman and laugh! I can’t give you a day with her, but I can give you a little insight into who she is, what she does, and what she’s passionate about. Read on and feel inspired to be the best person you can be each and every day - she makes you want to do just that!

NCW: Julieann, tell our readers a little bit about your background and your career path. JBR: I received my BA in Liberal Arts with a focus in communication from California State University, San Marcos and my MA in TV, Film and New Media Production Management from San Diego State University. Between undergrad and grad school, I worked at various companies that all contributed to the marketing knowledge I’ve amassed today. I’ve worked in TV production, advertising, interactive marketing, and as a faculty instructor. My primary experience has been in project management which included roles as project controller, and a planning and budget analyst. I’ve had a well-rounded education in all aspects of marketing! NCW: You left the corporate world to start JABR Marketing Solutions (JABR). What inspired you to start your own business? Also, explain to our readers what services JABR provides to clients. JBR: After 16 years in the corporate environment, I decided it was time to venture out on my own. Over the years, I had surrounded myself with mentors, leaders at work or in their communities, and other business owners that truly inspired me to entertain the idea of going out on my own. They gave me the inspiration and confidence to do it. It was my chance to be in control of my own success. I knew what I was doing and how to market; I just had to determine my audience and to whom I could sell my services. I spent the entire first year getting out there and marketing myself and networking. My business is based upon referrals so it was important for me to develop relationships with a trusted resource/referral group. When I started JABR it was a down economy, but, fortunately, I worked hard and it afforded me opportunities to work with businesses who were restructuring or downsizing. It took time to build the business, and at about two and a half years into, it I really had to reassess my goals and objectives. It was then that JABR truly became the business it is today. JABR Marketing Solutions is a small-to-mid-sized business outsourced marketing department. We are a team of marketing professionals who provide overall marketing, media and promotional campaign needs. We have the resources to implement strategic marketing plans into businesses to help optimize visibility and long-term growth. We are basically a one-stop shop for all of a business’s marketing needs! NCW: You do marketing for a living. What do you think are the three most important things a woman should do when considering starting her own business? What is the most effective way to market themselves and their businesses? JBR: First and foremost, HAVE A PLAN! No plan means no business! Secondly, join an organization that goes hand-in-hand with your busi-

“It’s important and healthy to have multiple passions. If you have only one real passion you become dependent on it. My husband and I like to race Porsche 911s in our spare time!” ness; surround yourself with like-minded businesses and be open to new opportunities. Thirdly, budget to operate your business. A budget is imperative to success. As far as marketing your business you are your most effective marketing tool. Network, network, network! Every business is unique to itself, but building strong relationships with your clientele is one of the most important aspects of a successful business. In addition, it’s important to have a process, be knowledgeable about the industry you’re servicing, and become involved with your local Chamber of Commerce, as well as other industry associations. You must also identify your objective, audience and focus so you can successfully and efficiently market your business. And last, but not least, have a mentor! My mentors have been instrumental in who I am today both personally and professionally. NCW: What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given? JBR: I’ve been given a lot of good business advice, but the one piece that I apply both to my business and my life is: “shared vision vs. supervision.” It’s a quote from Dr. William Glasser, M.D., an amazing individual whose work I based my thesis on, which was having quality in your life and your work place. I have always been a big believer in teams and working together; not the “I,I,I” approach. This is “shared vision vs. supervision”. Sharing your vision creates a “we-can-do-it” environment and that’s important to me. I’ve incorporated it into every aspect of my life and I’m happy! That happiness is reflected in my work; I love working with a team to help build someone’s business. NCW: What would you describe as your best asset? JBR: Friends and colleagues tell me I have a comforting smile that puts people at ease. I was unaware of this asset so it’s something I do unknowingly. I believe my best asset is my positive personality. I look at things half full rather than half empty. I also let things go. I don’t dwell. You have to keep moving forward. I live by my own formula, which is I (involvement) + C (caring) = T (trust). I invest and involve myself with my clients; I truly care about them and because 10 | North County Woman Spring 2013

of that they trust me. Having the trust of your clients is crucial in the marketing business. I want people to trust me. I’ve always been trusting and trustworthy, and I want the same for my clients. I’ve been like this since I was a child. I always cared about the interests of my friends and wanted to be involved and this has carried through to adulthood. It just makes sense! Once again, it’s a formula I apply to all aspects of my life. NCW: Julieann, it is obvious you are a caring, passionate person. What are your passions in life? JBR: I don’t have one big passion in life—I have several! There are so many things that I find passion in, such as my health, working out, friends, and racing cars. Yes, racing cars! My husband and I like to race Porsche 911’s in our spare time. I think it’s important and healthy to have multiple passions. If you have only one real passion, you become dependent on it. If you have several and you lose interest in one of them, you still have others to pursue. I think it makes for a happier, healthier, more balanced life. NCW: Our goal at North County Woman is to inspire and celebrate women. What fellow woman has had the most impact on you as a person and why? JBR: It would be my 102-year-old Lithuanian grandmother, Julia. She is the most amazing woman I know. She, even at 102, is still looking for the next party! She doesn’t complain and she sees the positive in everything! She has always been very independent. She was part of my thesis project in graduate school. I interviewed her regarding technology advising and how abled seniors were responding to it. She was my best interview ever! Whenever I’m up against a challenge in life, I can always depend on her advice. She is my sounding board, my counselor, my mentor. I go to her with everything. Had she had the opportunity for an education, she could have accomplished even more amazing things in her life. I admire her immensely because of her outlook on life and I hope to follow in her footsteps. NCW: If you could spend the day with one woman living or deceased who would you choose and why?

I look at things half full rather than half empty. I don’t dwell. You have to keep moving forward.

JBR: I’ve admired a lot of women and their accomplishments, but I’d have to say that I’d choose my great grandmothers on both sides of my family. My mother’s side is Lithuanian and my father’s side is Italian. I would love to ask them what it took to get to America. I would like to know how they spoke and what their personalities were like and how all of that has impacted me as a person today. I would like to ask them if they ever imagined having a granddaughter like me. I’ve been afforded the opportunity of an education and owning my own business, and I’d like to know if they ever had any big aspirations and what they were. They immigrated here in 1895. I can’t imagine the challenges they overcame to get here. I am interested in the genealogy of my past so spending a day with them would mean the most to me. NCW: Interviewing Julieann was such an emotional experience for me. I’m not sure how often a writer has the opportunity to interview someone who truly touches them on many different emotional levels. I was fortunate enough to have such an experience with Julieann. She made me laugh, cry and reflect upon my own life and relationships. She is exactly why I started this magazine—to connect with and recognize the MANY extraordinary women out there. There is so much we can learn, appreciate and admire from our fellow women, if we all strive to meet the Julieann Billings-Riordans floating around North County! For more information on Julieann’s business please go to: www.jabrpromo.com or call 760.591.0569.

Makeovers

Column and photography by Denise Vakili

T

” before

he modern woman of today has big responsibilities: mom, driver, nurse, financier, coach, cook, and the list goes on. And it’s no different for Kelly Griffin, our North County woman chosen for this quarter’s makeover! When we sat down with Kelly, her desire was to blossom out of her motherly role for a day and to let the professional, sophisticated and successful Kelly she was inside really shine through. She also wanted a more professional look for her hair to compliment her new career in residential real estate. So for her makeover, we gave her just that!

The Hair:

Before we began, Kelly had very long, straight hair, and it was her desire to cut it short and donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths (www.pantene.com). “That’s what I do. I grow it out, I cut it and donate it, and then I grow it out again,” Griffin said. Hair expert, Raquel Mercedes, owner of Jayden Presleigh, The Salon & Spa, in Carlsbad Village, had the perfect cut in mind. “I gave Kelly a Reese Witherspoon-inspired, short, layered bob with short side bangs to really compliment her facial structure and frame her beautiful features,” Mercedes said. “And for her color, we combined highlights with her natural low lights and also added in two additional warm tones for a natural, but warm and professional look.”

The Makeup:

When it comes to makeup, Kelly is a minimalist, and with her beautiful features and bright blue eyes, she gets away with it, no problem. Our makeup expert, Charlene Hooker of Love. Love. Love it! Makeup Artistry weighed in on how she applied Kelly’s makeup to enhance her features, yet still give her the natural, Southern California look she liked. “Kelly has such gorgeous blue eyes, and I really just wanted to enhance them without anything too dramatic,” Hooker said. “I gave her copper tones on the eyes without a heavy eyeliner with a little cream shimmer as well to keep her natural look, and for her cheeks and lips, I gave her coral shades that also make her eyes really pop.”

The Look:

For her photo shoot, clothing designer Chebra Dorsey styled Kelly in a Versace-inspired maxi dress that runs just $40 at her store, Ochea Fashion Boutique in Lemon Grove. “This look can be worn casually with flip flops or dressed up with a sparkly heel, and the flattering halter style is stunning for spring and summer. The teal color of the dress is just perfect with Kelly’s warm makeup tones, as well,” said Dorsey.

We had a blast doing Kelly’s makeover, and achieved just the new look that Kelly had hoped for! If you’d like to be considered for “Make Me Over!”, visit our Facebook page at Facbook.com/NorthCountyWoman for details! Want to see more of Kelly’s makeover? trends BRITTANY ADAMSON Quattra Via Founder/Master Beauty Artist

“Each of us is a seed, a silent promise, and it is always spring.” So let yourself bloom this season and bring forth your most vibrant and creative self; from the inside, out. Let us take a lesson from Earth, the greatest beauty artist of all. It reminds us that we are here to create beauty. When the sun rises from the east it is an unmistakable reminder that the chance to create a dynamic and beautiful life is at hand. Celebrate yourself every morning and your hair and makeup routine can reflect the beauty you exude from within. Follow this season’s best trends and you’re sure to feel remade, revitalized, rejuvenated! Shall we start with hair trends? There is one style that is standing out the most but can be interpreted many different ways. It’s all about pulling hair back to the nape of the neck. You can slick hair back and twist into a loose chignon or leave your hair straight and smooth down the back. Also try leaving a few pieces out around the face and lightly sweep hair into a messy bun or loose ponytail. There is something to be said this season about not making things too tidy. A little casual coolness goes a long way. Pull these looks up the head a bit for an undone up-do but think anti-ballerina buns. Braids are still ruling the runway, so get creative! Even if you haven’t mastered the French or fishtail braid, you can still braid a few sections of hair and then wrap over the top of the head and pin on the other side, or pull back and crisscross in fun patterns across the back of the head. Remember to massage braids to loosen and create texture. It’s ok if a few pieces stick out as it helps to create a thicker, more noticeable braid. Then spritz with either of Aveda’s aerosols, Air Control or Control Force. Another must for spring is easy, loose waves! I love the Be Curly line of preps, enhancers and controllers. Choose the product that works best for your hair and then roughen dry hair using your fingers to keep texture. Twist hair into a bun and allow to set, then let hair down and enjoy soft, tousled, fresh-fromthe-beach curls. Don’t forget to finish with Aveda’s Curl Enhancing hairspray! Top any of these styles off with a hairpiece or headband. Smooth and textured metals are also being worked into this season’s hairstyles. Also trending is big beautiful fabric flowers, draped pearls, bows, and gorgeous printed scarves, folded and wrapped around the head. Sporty neon head bands scream “its time to get ready for summer!” I love Pura Vida’s collection of hair ties and headbands! Pair this with a new adventure and give your inner self the burst of excitement it deserves! Looking to shake things up this spring with a new cut or color? I’ve got some great ideas that are sure to flatter. The ombré is still holding strong; even if you opt for a more subtle version, you will feel instantly uplifted! The highlights brighten the face and it’s an easy- to-maintain color. I suggest choosing a base color that is close to your natural color to ensure a flawless grow out. The reverse ombre is a new take on this long-time trend, and it’s exactly as it sounds: blonde on top and darker through the mid-lengths and ends. Low lights (darker tones) are a beautiful addition to the blonde, as they add depth and movement while making hair look healthier. I always suggest a high-shine gloss to help the whole hair look treated. Blondes are still basking in a sun-kissed glow, but there are a few platinum blondes making their statement.

For my dark haired beauties, we are seeing rich dark browns and blacks returning. If your wild side is tapping you on the shoulder, try some interior pastel pieces. Champagne, cotton-candy pinks, and violets help turn heads in a subtle, edgy way. Complement any color you choose with a personal style that reflects your personal taste and fits your everyday lifestyle. Pixie cuts, short cropped cuts and angled bobs are great ideas for this season. If you’re tempted to try a shorter cut, now is the time, as shorter styles are definitely having a moment. Long beautiful layers are always in style, especially paired with this season’s tousled, unkempt looks. Take your new style out for a night on the town with some old friends to help ignite that child’s play we all deserve. Makeup this season is on-trend with hair—less is more. Choose one feature to highlight and stay soft and simple with the rest. If you choose bright lips, always start with a lip moisturizer to prep, follow with a lip liner for longevity, and then finish with your lip color. I suggest rose, orange, coral, salmon and tomato as your color palate. You are sure to get attention, especially with a healthy glow and peachy cheeks. Finish with mascara on the lashes. You’ve just created a natural, beautiful look. Go for bright eyes using greens and blues, or rose for a softer touch. Keep color below the crease of your eye to keep it from looking too 60s-ish. Use a soft highlight color to sweep under the brow to add an extra glow. You can use the bright color you choose to line the bottom lid instead. Start from the outside with a little thicker line and sweep inwards. Finish with eyeliner and mascara. Keep lips soft with nude, soft pink, or just a gloss. Check out Aveda’s new Art of Nature Spring Makeup Collection. You are sure to find everything you need to create these looks! It’s spring and now is the prefect opportunity to let that inner artist shine! Do you feel that spark of creativity that you will translate into beauty? I hope so. Celebrate yourself everyday. Wine & Cheese Pairings

PAIRINGS kris garrett Owner, La Costa Wine

Waterstone Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon has reigned as King of the Noble Grapes for centuries, despite the rising up of several challengers over the years: Merlot in the 80’s, Pinot Noir in the 00’s, and boisterous blends in the 10’s. Each of the new comers enchants the wine community for a bit and even retains a percentage of those individuals as lasting devotees. However, when crafted well, Cabernet Sauvignon’s beautiful bouquet, deep fruit and chiseled physique offering length of flavor, as well as longevity in the bottle remains to be unparalleled in the world of wine.

Desparada Sauvignon Blanc Interesting tidbit: Cabernet Sauvignon is actually a hybrid of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. These two varietals got together a few hundred years ago and voila, magic! Nothing whispers springtime like the crisp acidity and liveliness of Sauvignon Blanc. This grape expresses itself in quite distinctive ways depending on the environment where it has been farmed. New Zealand has become famous for this grape’s pungent fragrance and exuberant style, Sancerre for racy acidity, and California for richer fruit tones of grapefruit.

Waterstone Cabernet Sauvignon displays all the classic characteristics of the grape, while also showcasing the elements that Napa Valley specifically endows upon the varietal (concentration with a burst of dark berry fruit, framed with elegant, silky tannins). An interesting aspect of Waterstone’s origin offers a bit of enlightenment about the business of wine. Behind the “curtain”, many would be surprised to learn that numerous wines are not exactly what they seem. Often, wineries encounter a situation where they have produced too much wine and/or some of that production doesn’t quite meet their standards for their intended price point. Many winery brands, such as Waterstone, have built their business models around the availability of inexpensive, highquality over supply. In the case of Waterstone, they purchase their Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the most esteemed wineries in the world. In fact, this particular winery sells their two wines for $550 and $300!

The Desparada wine, originating from Santa Barbara County, is a fantastically unique and exotic expression of Sauvignon Blanc. If you would like to see how a lesser known variant of this grape expresses itself, this is the wine to try. Tropical, bright and delicious, it will ease you into Spring with a smile on your face.

Suggested Cheese Pairing: Manchego Manchego, from Spain, is one of the world’s most famous cheeses and for good reason. This cheese, made from sheep’s milk, finds a harmonious balance between texture, nuttiness, and bite; the oil content pairs well with the tannic structure of the Cabernet, while not overpowering the wine.

Suggested Cheese Pairing: Humboldt Fog A California-aged goat cheese from Cypress Grove creamery, Humboldt Fog contains the necessary acidity to match up well with Sauvignon Blanc. Floral and herbal with a crisp citrus finish could be used to describe both the cheese and the wine. The harmonious blend of these two styles will be sure to please the palate.

Estate Planning

Estate

PLANNING bECCA FLETCHER Becca Fletcher Law

W

hether or not you consider yourself the financial decision maker of your household, if you are a woman with a family, chances are you have thought about estate planning. As women, despite the uncomfortable nature of discussing the passing away of a loved one, the thought of not planning and leaving our family’s futures at risk is just as disturbing. The peace of mind that comes with having your affairs in order can make a huge difference in everyone’s happiness and well being. So what is an Estate Plan? The answer is more involved than can be explained in just this one column, but I’ll start with some basics. Typically, an Estate Plan consists of a Revocable Living Trust, a Durable Power of Attorney for Financial Decisions, an Advanced Health Care Directive, and a Pour Over Will. The Living Trust is kind of the star of the show. The trust says who inherits your assets after you die, and it also allows you to leave specific instructions about when and how your beneficiaries will inherit. For example, you may want to provide that if you die before your children are grown, they will receive half of their inheritance at 25 and the other half at 35. This helps to ensure that a child does not inherit too much too soon. Living Trusts can be invaluable especially for those who have children from previous marriages or have larger estates. The trust ensures that children from previous marriages cannot be disinherited. In larger estates it can save money on estate taxes. Perhaps the biggest bonus of all is that all Living Trusts, when properly funded, avoid probate! What is probate and why is avoiding probate such a huge concern? The answer is rather simple: it saves time and money. When a person dies with a will in place, as opposed to a Living Trust the distribution of their property must be administered by the court through a process called probate. During probate, the court will account for all of the assets of the deceased person, pay all of his or her outstanding bills, and distribute the remaining property, if any, to the people entitled to inherit. That doesn’t sound so bad, right? 22 | North County Woman Spring 2013

Well, here is the kicker . . . the courts take a hefty fee for their services. Typically, a probate fee will be about 5% of the gross value of a person’s estate. To give you a clear example consider the following: An individual who has a home appraised at $1,000,000, but still owes $400,000 on their mortgage would be charged $50,000 by the probate court. Why? Because the 5% fee is calculated on the gross value of the home which is $1,000,000 and NOT the net value of $600,000. That’s money just right off the top before your heirs even inherit! In addition, these probate fees do not include any attorney fees that may be incurred if you hire a professional to help you navigate through the process and make court appearances, etc. For most people going through probate having an attorney to assist them is not seen as a luxury but a necessity. As you can see, during probate fees and expenses can quickly diminish what was once a sizable inheritance. Furthermore, not only is probate costly, it is a lengthy and time-consuming process. At a minimum, heirs should expect the process to take nine months to transfer assets, but more typically the process takes about two years. During this time, the heirs do not inherit or have access to the assets, and they are simply stuck in limbo while the court process, with all of its formalities, drags on. With a Living Trust, the entire probate process is avoided. After a death, the trust paperwork is simply presented by the person named in the document to manage the assets of the trust (called a successor trustee), and title can be transferred to beneficiaries without court intervention or oversight. In the end, having a Living Trust in place really does save time and money, and I would argue, a great deal of stress to the beneficiaries.
