"He's been moved from Harborview to Seattle Children's iforl rehab," said his mother, Kelly Martin. On the afternoon of Oct. 14, Calvin, a freshman on the Imbler football team, began to complain of not feeling well during the Panthers' practice. "He ran off the field to vomit and then passed out," Kelly Martin said."Coaches didn'tgeta response and called 911." That was sometime shortly after 4 p.m. By about 4:45 p.mo Calvin was loaded into a helicopter and Life Flighted to a hospital in Walla Walla,

Washington. "He had a blood clot in the brain and he was bleeding ion the brain)," Kelly said.'They did surgery that night." Doctors performed a three-hour proceduretoremove part ofthe leftside ofhis skull to allow his brain to swell, to remove partoftheclotand the dead blood, Kelly said. He was then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he stayed until his recent move to Seattle Children's Hospital. Doctors are not entirely sure what causedthe hemorrhage, butthey have

determined that the injury was not football-related even though Calvin had suffered a concussion about three weeks prior. ''We all thought this was aftermath of the concussion, ibutl the doctor said no," Kelly said."iThe doctor) thought that, too, buthe said, After I gotin there, it was very clear this was not from the concussion.
