Ballet Black Triple Bill Friday 14 & Saturday 15 October Leeds favourite Ballet Black, led by Artistic Director Cassa Pancho, collaborate with three bold and inventive choreographers to present an irresistible trilogy of narrative and abstract dance. As the centrepiece Christopher Hampson’s Storyville is the bittersweet fable of Nola, a farm girl who falls prey to unscrupulous characters and worldly desires in 1920s New Orleans, set to the haunting music of Kurt Weill. The programme also includes two newly devised pieces; To Begin, Begin by Christopher Marney and Cristaux, a duet by Arthur Pita (Choreographer of Ballet Black’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream).

Multi-award winning choreographer James Wilton returns to Leeds with a reimagining of Herman Melville’s seminal novel Moby Dick.

Following their thrilling performance in 2015, 2Faced Dance make a highly anticipated return to Leeds this autumn.

Leviathan follows Ahab, a ship captain hell-bent on capturing the white whale Moby Dick, a beast as vast and dangerous as the sea itself yet serene and beautiful beyond all imagining. Ahab’s crew is drawn in by the unhinged charisma of their captain, blindly following him on his perilous adventure towards almost certain destruction.

Run is a gritty and explosive new triple bill from this award winning and physically adventurous company.

Wilton’s trademark blend of athletic dance, martial arts, capoeira and partner-work will have you on the edge of your seat. It will leave you gasping for air under the sheer ferocity of movement, all accompanied by a powerful electro-rock soundtrack by Lunatic Soul.

Featuring three exhilarating commissions by world-class choreographers Tamsin Fitzgerald, Lenka Vagerova and newcomer Rebecca Evans, Run explores the darker side of humanity through an explosion of movement, theatre and design. Original music has been composed by Angus McRae and Tomas Vychytil. Fight or flight? There is always a choice.

Leviathan is man versus nature; be careful what you fish for.

“More than dance, this is sport, breakneck and to the extreme” Peter Fussl, Kulturzeitschrift
