TWENTY Years Anniversary Programme

This exciting celebratory programme showcases dance from world-renowned choreographers Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Robert Cohan. In its first revival since 1979, MacMillan’s Playground will feature guest artist Romany Pajdak, First Artist of The Royal Ballet, and Cohan’s new work Communion will be performed by nine highlyskilled athletic dancers. Including dance from Los Angeles choreographer Sophia Stoller and the Company’s Artistic Director Yolande Yorke-Edgell, this is a rare evening of engaging, thought-provoking and inspiring contemporary ballet.

Join Puss and Jack on their adventure as they meet a flurry of lovable characters, and even come face to face with royalty! Bringing this much-loved children’s story to life, Puss in Boots is the perfect opportunity for your little ones to enjoy live ballet, music and theatre.

Ballet Central

James Cousins Company

Sunday 14 April

Thursday 02 May

Ballet Central returns to Leeds with an exceptional range of repertoire for 2019. See young dancers on the cusp of their professional careers, performing a varied programme of classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Inspired by stories of division and separation, this new production weaves three duets into one emotive evening of dance. Epilogues will take a look at the important questions raised over recent years, asking if we are moving forward or hurtling back in time.

2019 Tour

Highlights include Christopher Marney’s Carousel Dances, inspired by the 1945 musical Carousel, a unique version of the Dying Swan Solo created by Calvin Richardson, and an extract from Frederick Ashton’s acclaimed Valses Nobles et Sentimentales. This promises to be an exciting evening of theatricality and technical excellence, enhanced by stunning costumes and powerful music.

Epilogues

Two never-before-seen works will feature alongside the ‘visually breath-taking’ (The Stage) Within Her Eyes, in which the female dancer never once touches the floor. Returning to Leeds for the first time since 2015, don’t miss the intense physicality of James Cousins Company, guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. Age guidance: 14+

9

Expressions 2019

Inspired by Company dancer Cai Glover’s hearing impairment, choreographer and Company founder Hélène Blackburn has created 9 as an exploration of the unique way he perceives and experiences music and movement. Performed to Beethoven’s iconic 9th Symphony, 9 showcases the Company’s high-energy style and how movement can rise above our differences, transforming the body into language.

Included in the programme this year is Anjali Dance Company, making a hotly anticipated return to the theatre after their highly regarded debut in November 2017. They will perform two short dance pieces, Unicorn and The Reflection. Expressions has a relaxed structure and all performances are designed to be fully accessible for performers and audiences alike.
