Under 15 and Under 16 Tournament Wollongong, 16-21 July
Welcome from the NSW Government – National Youth Championships (Boys) 2024
The NSW Government is pleased to welcome you to Wollongong for the 2024 National Youth Championships Boys’ tournament, supported proudly by our tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
The National Youth Championships are the flagship youth player event in the Australian football calendar, with this year’s Boys’ tournament comprising 32 teams representing nine state and territory Member Federations. This event is an important pipeline for the development of Australia’s future professional and senior footballers, showcasing our football stars of tomorrow in tournament conditions.
Events like the National Youth Championships also provide a significant boost to the local visitor economy by attracting thousands of competitors, supporters and officials who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and cafes, and visit local attractions.
Best of luck to all teams and make the most of your time in Wollongong’s vibrant coastal community and the surrounding Illawarra region by exploring the spectacular landscapes, visitor experiences generous hospitality waiting to be discovered at visitnsw.com.
On behalf of Football Australia, it brings me immense pride to extend a warm welcome to all participants, officials, and supporters gathered for this year’s National Youth Championships.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Wollongong, this tournament holds special significance in our calendar as we celebrate the ability and potential of our future stars. As the pinnacle of youth competitions in Australian football, the National Youth Championships serve as a crucial platform for talent identification and development.
Throughout history, many Subway Socceroos have participated in the boys’ tournament of the Championships, including the likes of Jordy Bos, Harry Kewell, Mark Milligan, Luke Wilkshire, and Paul Okon. Indeed, the National Youth Championships are renowned as the breeding grounds where future Subway Socceroos are forged and nurtured, showcasing the bright future of Australian football.
This unique tournament allows participants to step away from their grassroots clubs and into an environment with other players and coaches from their state or territory. Teams from nine State and Territory Member Federations are competing for not just the prestigious national title, but also to the attention of the national teams’ technical staff.
As we converge on Wollongong, let us celebrate the journey of these remarkable footballers and the countless hours of dedication that have brought them to this moment.
To the players, coaches, and appointed staff – congratulations on your selection. May this platform be a repository of cherished memories, forged friendships, and unparalleled growth.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the NSW Government, Destination NSW, and Destination Wollongong for championing this year’s event. A special mention goes to the many volunteers for their hard work in the lead-up to and throughout these Championships. Our sport is indebted to the dedication and passion of those who contribute so much in a voluntary capacity, and we cannot thank you enough.
In closing, I extend my best wishes to every participant, official, and supporter. Here’s to the spirit of football, empowerment, and the enduring legacy of the Subway Socceroos. Thank you and let the magic of the 2024 National Youth Championships begin!

“It was a really great experience heading to Coffs Harbour the year I was first selected. I got to travel away with a lot of my mates and represent New South Wales. It was the first time a lot of us had the chance to play representative football at that level, so there was a lot of excitement across the squad.
I’m still mates with plenty of the guys that came through the pathway with me. I think being part of the Championships was an important part of my growth as a footballer, and it’s great to see the next generation getting that same opportunity.
During my time playing in the National Youth Championships the travel was obviously something that was pretty exciting for all of us, but as a Wollongong local to now see them being played in the area is great. I’m sure there will be a few locals looking forward to playing in front of lots of family and friends, which is always special at any level.”
