Under 15 and Under 16 Tournament Melbourne, 3-8 July
On behalf of the Victorian Government, welcome to Football Australia’s 2024 National Youth Championships Girls tournament.
As the nation’s sporting capital, it’s fantastic to welcome the country’s best young female footballers to Melbourne for six days of exciting competition.
We’re proud to host you at the Home of the Matildas at La Trobe University Bundoora. It’s a fitting venue for the tournament given so many of the current crop of Matildas players – Kyra Cooney-Cross, Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord to name just a few – also graced the pitch at previous National Youth Championships.
Our investment in this state of the art facility is helping to grow the game and supporting the next generation of football superstars.
To all the players visiting us from around the country, I hope this tournament allows you to not only develop your skills, but develop friendships and connections with Australia’s most promising young footballers. Because, you never know, one day you could be playing alongside them on our national team.
And to the coaches, officials and technical staff participating in the tournament – I hope your time in Victoria allows you to connect with your counterparts from other states and territories and reinforces your commitment to the game.
And – finally – to the often-unsung heroes of youth sport, the committed parents and guardians. Please enjoy your time in Victoria as well.
Away from the pitch, Melbourne offers an array of amazing restaurants, theatres, galleries, and hidden gems down laneways so I encourage you to explore everything on offer in our city.
Have a great tournament all!
Steve Dimopoulos Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events
On behalf of Football Australia, it brings me immense pride to extend a warm welcome to all participants, officials, and supporters gathered for this year’s National Youth Championships.
Set against the backdrop of the state-of-the-art Home of the Matildas at La Trobe University in Melbourne, this tournament holds special significance in our calendar as we celebrate the ability and potential of our future stars. As the pinnacle of youth competitions in Australian football, the National Youth Championships serve as a crucial platform for talent identification and development.
Throughout history, many CommBank Matildas have participated in the girls’ tournament of the Championships, including current stars like Caitlin Foord, Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter, Steph Catley and Kyra CooneyCross. Indeed, the National Youth Championships are renowned as the breeding grounds where future CommBank Matildas are forged and nurtured, showcasing the bright future of Australian football. This unique tournament allows participants step away from their grassroots clubs and into an environment with other players and coaches from their state or territory. Teams from eight State and Territory Member Federations are competing for not just the prestigious national title, but also the attention of the national teams’ technical staff.
As we converge on Melbourne, let us celebrate the journey of these remarkable footballers and the countless hours of dedication that have brought them to this moment.
To the players, coaches, and appointed staff – congratulations on your selection. May this platform be a repository of cherished memories, forged friendships, and unparalleled growth.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Victorian Government, Visit Victoria, and Football Victoria for championing and hosting this year’s event. A special mention goes to the many volunteers for their hard work in the lead-up to and throughout these Championships. Our sport is indebted to the dedication and passion of those who contribute so much in a voluntary capacity, and we cannot thank you enough.
In closing, I extend my best wishes to every participant, official, and supporter. Here’s to the spirit of football, empowerment, and the enduring legacy of the CommBank Matildas. Thank you and let the magic of the 2024 National Youth Championships begin!

“I loved being able to travel and play alongside some really good footballers and some fun people I still keep in touch with at the National Youth Championships. Being away also provided the chance for personal growth with so many new experiences away from home.
The NYCs gave me an opportunity to be seen by many of the coaches that I would connect with in the national teams. It also showed me what was possible if I kept working each day to improve. To see players that I had been playing against take the next step in their football careers was motivating.”
