Chris Angel first met Alan Fluke while coaching his daughter Ali’s soccer team twelve years ago. The men stayed in touch, Chris excelling in strategic partnerships while working for global software corporations SAS, IBM and others, and Alan gaining national recognition for creating hybrid entertainment centers for Disney, ESPN Zone, and more. Two years ago, over coffee at the North Hills Panera, Chris floated the idea of a bowling lounge to Alan. The conversation went from idea to business plan, and from financing to construction of Sparians Bowling Boutique and Bistro in the blink of an eye.
Raleigh native Kristen Anderson has known since she was a little girl that she has a natural passion for retail, china, and design. It all began when Santa brought 8-year old Kristen a cash register. Faster than he could travel back up the chimney, she had her mother’s china stickered and ready to sell! After studying interior design at University of South Carolina, Kristen went to work with Ann Weaver at Quintessentials, where shared passion and friendship led to conversations about Kristen buying the store from Ann. Today, new owner Kristen continues to honor Quintessentials’ distinctive traditions while adding new, complementary lines.

Quintessentials offers tabletop, linens, and gifts from the Triangle’s only retailer offering the complete tabletop at multiple price points for all occasions. Now with distinctive gift items for men and future plans to add antiques and monthly tasting events.

The legendary Outer Banks Whalebone Surf Shop is making landfall at North Hills, morphing into Whalebone Urban Surf under the talented direction of Jim and April Vaughn’s daughter, Stevi.
With family roots that go deep here, Hayley is a Wolfpack girl who says she got her creative design talent from her mom, who does flowers, colors, interior design, anything but clothes. It was her Aunt Phyllis who opened Hayley’s heart to fun outfits, always with a girly touch.
Jim Vaughn found his passion for surfing as a little boy growing up in Florida, then followed the waves to the Outer Banks where he opened Whalebone Surf Shop in 1975 on the first floor of his home. Daughter Stevi grew up surfing as well, but like her mom, found her real passion in the business side of things and followed her love for Spanish and international business to Argentina where she met her husband Martin. Whalebone offers everything for surf trips including short and long boards, stand up paddle boards for area lakes, plus incidentals such as leashes and wax. They also carry clothing you won’t find anywhere else in the Triangle, basic surf and everyday casual from Quicksilver, Billabong, Harley, Volcom and others.
During her five years as a business manager for Lexus, more and more friends were calling on Hayley to shop with them. Three months later and with no retail experience, she opened her boutique in 2008 and has distinguished herself from the beginning with the personal attention she gives each customer. Hayley is committed to being “the best little boutique in Raleigh.” Hayley’s offers an affordable range of options plus all the right touches to make an unforgettable outfit. Not just a shop, Hayley is part of her customers’ lives, sharing in their special moments and will always help you find the right look.

Bethany Perkins fell in love with a relative’s cooking on a ski trip in Park City, Utah. The cooking featured seared chicken done in olive oil and white balsamic coconut-flavored vinegar, artisanal breads and dipping oils that sent Bethany searching for the store that supplied the oils.
Carrie Rezabek grew up dancing and choreographing all over the country, then earned business and law degrees. What next? For Carrie, it was the creation of Pure Barre, a natural return to her early passion, designing a transformative dance exercise experience that blends Pilates, yoga, and ballet movements, at the barre.
Passionate about healthy eating, Bethany and her fellow Wolfpacker husband, Ed, discovered Delezia Olive Oil, the master importer of these highest quality oils and vinegars. They immediately locked in the exclusive rights for Raleigh and began planning their store, where you can taste everything before you buy and watch your selections being freshly bottled. Ranging from mild to robust, there are over 30 different olive oils and 25+ varieties of balsamic vinegar are available, stored in stainless steel fustis. Offerings also include La Farm bread, custom made chocolate bark, hand thrown pottery accessories, and virgin olive oil body and bath products.
