Length of days does not profit me except the days are passed in Thy presence, in Thy service to Thy glory. Give me a grace that precedes, follows, guides, sustains, sanctifies, aides every hour, that I may not be one moment apart from Thee, but may rely on Thy Spirit to supply every thought, speak every word, direct every step, prosper every work, build up every mote of faith, and give me a desire to show forth Thy praise, testify Thy love, advance Thy kingdom. our viSion To see people coming to Christ and growing in Him as we link local and global communities for ministry and worship everywhere, every day.

And it’s our goal to help you to be the church ... everywhere, every day.
our miSSion To call people to know and follow Christ and equip them to worship and serve together.

PINCHAS ZUKERMAN, DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO PLAY AT NORTHLAND BY MARC MCMURRIN Executive Director of Operations
N
orthland’s arts series strives to bring the Central Florida community the best of the arts in a variety of art mediums, from contemporary Christian to Gospel to classical. On Friday, March 13, Northland presents the best in the classical fine arts with Pinchas Zukerman and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. You may be asking, “Why are they coming to a church?” I am glad you asked… Northland recognizes that for centuries the church was the center of fine arts, expressing the holiness of God. Northland considers it a privilege to have this opportunity to host some of today’s master musicians, such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, as we reflect on the beauty of our Lord. Conductor and soloist Pinchas Zukerman will lead the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He has been recognized as a phenomenon for nearly four decades. His musical genius and prodigious technique have long been a marvel to critics and audiences, and his exceptional artistic standards continue to earn him the highest acclaim. His devotion to younger generations of musicians who are inspired “Youth sticks with some people… by his magnetism has been Zukerman seems the foreverapplauded worldwide. young virtuoso: expressively Equally respected as a resourceful, infectiously musical, violist, conductor, technically impeccable, effortless. violinist, pedagogue and chamber As usual, it was a joy to be in his musician, Pinchas Zukerman musical company.” is indeed a master of our — The Los Angeles Times time. Born in Tel Aviv in 1948, Pinchas Zukerman studied music with his father, first on the recorder and clarinet, and later on the violin. He soon began lessons with Ilona Feher and came to America in 1962 with the support of Isaac Stern, Pablo Casals and the America-Israel and Helena Rubenstein foundations.

THE LOVE COLLECTION
O
n September 19, 1983, “Love Connection” aired on prime time TV. Hosted by Chuck Woolery, this pioneer in reality relationship shows was a wild success. It aired for nearly 11 years, and thousands of men and women were brought together to experience dating, romance and love. Though our subject today is not dating, it is love — namely, God’s love for the poor. As the Israelites trudged through the desert, the Lord taught them to be givers. He spoke to them about the opportunities they would have to share with others in need. Many Hebrews would be farmers. They would live off the land, providing for themselves and their families. One-tenth of their flocks, herds and fields would be devoted to the Lord as the tithe (found in Leviticus 27:3032). God gave them the remaining 90 percent for themselves, but challenged them to make an additional offering to “the poor and the alien.” “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the Lord your God.” – Leviticus 19:9-10, NIV The Lord knew that some Israelites would fall into poverty and have no means of survival. He also
knew that poor foreigners would enter the Promised Land in search of food. God wanted to provide for the poor and the dispossessed. He wanted them to taste (literally) His love. And He called His people to partner with Him to meet needs in their communities. The book of Ruth chronicles the amazing story of the survival of the kingly line of Israel through the fulfillment of Leviticus 19. Check it out sometime. God invites us to serve in the same way. Poverty, loneliness and alienation are a part of the fabric of our society, too. The Lord wants people in need to know that Christ cares about them. He has inspired the Mount Adorables to begin the Love Collection. During the week, folks in Mount Dora will buy a little extra food and personal supplies when they do their normal grocery shopping. On Sunday morning, they will bring their donations to the church. These items will be collected and then delivered to The Carpenter’s House for Children in Leesburg or Loaves and Fishes in Apopka. The 16 children living at The Carpenter’s House and the 600-plus families that are fed weekly at Loaves and Fishes will benefit from the offering that we in Mount Dora make to them. In this way, the Lord will provide for them, just as He did in Israel so long ago. Each month the Love Collection will have a different theme and a list of items to donate. We want to keep it fresh and fun for all. This is a ministry that anyone can do – teenagers, retirees and everyone in between. You already buy food, toiletries and cleaning supplies for yourselves. Just purchase a little bit more for someone else. Pray about this. Ask the Lord to give you an amount to spend – $5 a week, 1 percent of your income, or some other guide that He provides. Then create a reminder so it becomes a habit. God can use you to bring hope and encouragement in these tough economic times. Join us in this venture. Ask the Holy Spirit to take your simple offering and show His extravagant love to a world in need! For more information on how you can be a part of the Love Collection, please check out the display in the Mount Dora site foyer on Sundays or contact Sharlee Hollingsworth (407-461-6851 or shollingsworth2@cfl.rr.com). Thanks in advance for your offerings to Christ! >>> MOUNTDORA.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET
Pinchas began his studies at The Juilliard School, winning countless competitions, which started his legendary career as a musician traveling the globe. President Reagan awarded him the Medal of Arts for his leadership in the musical world. Since 1900, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has grown from a 40-person ensemble to a world-class orchestra. The members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s musical community build upon a rich 107-year tradition of artistic excellence and masterful musicianship. This orchestra will fill Northland’s stage with a 75-piece orchestra, which is sure to mesmerize the audience with a powerful and yet elegant sound. Additionally, Juno Awardwinning Amanda Forsyth will perform. She is considered one of North America’s most dynamic cellists. The intense richness of her tone, her remarkable technique and her exceptional musicality combine to enthrall her audiences and critics alike. Amanda Forsyth. Ms. Forsyth is recognized as an eminent recitalist, soloist and chamber musician, appearing with leading orchestras and prestigious chamber music festivals in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. As the orchestra prepares to tune up, Northland’s audio system is being fine-tuned for this special performance. Northland was one of Meyers Sound’s “showcase projects,” so when they heard the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was coming, they decided to send their lead engineer at their own expense to adjust the system to make the sanctuary acoustically perfect for a grand concert hall experience. I encourage everyone from our congregation to take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Pinchas Zukerman and Amanda Forsyth. This weekend only, limited $10 tickets are available for congregants in the bookstore. We want to make sure you have every opportunity to be a part of this world-class event.
At Gathering 2:42, participants devoted themselves “to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).

MOVIE UNDER THE RICK AND JOLENE BURNS STARS A HIT!
R
ecently, we had an incredible social gathering for the Oviedo congregation. We met at the community center, ate great food, and listened to great music, including worship from our own Lisa Hill, Debbie Deditz and Tami LaVoie, as well as some children’s worship music with Mr. Dave and a bunch of dancing, singing kids! It was awesome! Then we all snuggled into seats and blankets (and a fortunate few, leather couches) and watched Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! Everyone laughed and enjoyed the beautiful night together. About 100 people attended, and we raised money and other donations for our outreach partner, The Hope Foundation. It was an incredible event!
Most of the events we do would not be possible without the hard work and smiling faces of many people, and two that are always available and willing to serve with a smile and spread the love of Christ are Rick and Jolene Burns. We all are so blessed to have them as a Rick and Jolene Burns. part of our congregation, and I bet every one of you has been met with a handshake or a hello by one of them at some point. They serve and have fun doing it, and we just wanted to say, “Thank you!” Northland at Oviedo would not be the site it is without the incredible volunteers we have. If you see Rick and Jolene, say hi and thank them for all they do, but more for who they are!

PREPARING YOURSELF FOR EASTER
A
s we prepare for Easter together as a church community, I am in awe of the participation of so many of you. I think this preparation happens as we pursue a life that honors Christ. We prepare for the resurrection because of its significance to each one of us personally. Here at West Oaks, who we are in Christ matters to our community. I believe we are beginning to see growth because of the heart of those of you who are following Christ with your lives and are willing to serve and love those around you. I have heard Pastor Joel say so many times how proud he is to be your pastor as he hears about the things you are involved with and the people you are able to touch. I want to repeat those words and tell you how I see the impact you are making right here in our own community. I do hear from the community the difference you are making, and I thank you for following Christ with your lives. As you continue the Lenten study, don’t overlook the application of what you read and hear. This is where the preparation takes place. This week we have been asked
to gather clothes we are no longer using and bring them in next weekend. We also have many opportunities to serve on projects and care for those who have needs. I believe all of these are ways of preparing ourselves for the risen Christ. As we give sacrificially, as we fast certain things that might master us, as we receive Communion weekly, as we gather a few times during the week for worship, continue to look for ways to love Christ by loving your neighbors. I also want to remind all of you to begin signing up for one of the many projects that are offered for our Fusion event, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. If you know of a project that can be included in this day, please let Patti Novak or Marilee Foreman know as soon as possible. We are working with other churches that are also putting together projects that we can join as well. The end result will be “the Church” doing what it has been called to do. After we have finished the projects at the different sites, we will go back to our West Oaks site and have lunch together with all who served that day. The idea here is that we will share a meal together and celebrate what just happened for our community. God is doing some amazing things among His people, and I am so encouraged to be a part of this adventure with all of you. As you are preparing yourself for Easter, you are preparing yourself for an amazing relationship that will bring you to a place of total contentment. Be encouraged by the things happening around you and continue to make yourself available to walk through whatever doors God is opening in your life. We are coworkers on a journey to make Christ known throughout the world, and we will stand with each other as the body of Christ.
Continue to look for ways to love Christ by loving your neighbors.

AMAZING WEEK OF SERVICE!
L
ast week, more than 250 people joined Serve Teams across the city and helped people in a variety of ways. Here’s how you served during this week: You served a community valentine luncheon in Sanford, built a ramp for an elderly woman, painted a widow’s home, cleaned and renovated an elderly woman’s home in Apopka, landscaped for those in need, began repairs for a disabled homeowner, served at Harvest Time International, ministered to the homeless downtown, helped serve single moms, joined the Little Hands project and more. Then, on Thursday night, you celebrated the week with a Night at the Park event, which was amazing! Many families came and enjoyed the worship singers, received encouragement from Pastor Joel and Pastor Gus, and had raffles, cotton candy, a whole lot of bouncing around and kickball. The Serve Team came together this week to pray for the 2009 events and projects. Their spirit and unity show in everything they do. Would you like to join in and serve others in love while you connect with people who have a serving heart like you? Join a Serve Team today; many opportunities are coming up to get involved with serving people in need and have a sense of belonging as a team.

WeeKend oF march 14-16 The weekend of March 14, Northland will be participating in the interfaith community project “Clothes for a Cause.” How will it work? Pull all the clothes you no longer wear out of your closets and place them into bags. Then, when you come to worship service March 14, 15 or 16, leave the bags behind your car in the parking lot. There is no need to carry them into the church. Volunteers will pick up all the bags. The distributed sites will be sure the clothes get to the ministry partner of their choice. The Longwood site will support Destiny Foundation; Mount Dora, Anthony House; Oviedo, Hope Foundation; and West Oaks, Faith Neighborhood Center.
Leave bags of clothes behind your car.

Hello, boys and girls. Welcome to THE BEEHIVE! I’m Buzz. Stick with me during our family worship service, and we’ll learn more about who God is and what He has done!
Today we worship God, who is three in one: God is the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit connects us with Jesus, that’s worship!

Answer: ANTIOCH
Acts 11:24-26; 13:1-4 The Holy Spirit connects us to God and to other believers. He gives us power to do that, too. Barnabas was a good man who was full of the Holy Spirit. He told believers in Antioch to stay true to the Lord with all their hearts. Barnabas and Saul met with the church in Antioch and taught large crowds about Jesus. Many people believed in Jesus. One day while they were worshiping and fasting, the Holy Spirit spoke. “Set apart Barnabas and Saul for me,” He said. “I have appointed them to do special work.” The prophets and teachers prayed and fasted. That means they gave up eating to focus on God. They placed their hands on Barnabas and Saul and prayed. Then the Holy Spirit sent them on their way together.

FAMILY WORSHIP: bIG CONCEPTS AND YOUNG MINDS BY BECKY WELDON Children’s Curriculum Team
A
pologetics. Catechism. Righteousness. You hardly noticed the big words used in sermons and songs until you started worshiping with your children. Now those same words seem almost foreign as you consider how they sound to your 7-year-old daughter or your 9-year-old son. You wonder, How can my children worship and learn in the same service where I am also being challenged as an adult? God’s Holy Spirit is the answer. The Holy Spirit helps each child, adult, seeking person, new believer and seasoned Christian know and act on what he or she encounters in worship at the level each understands. In a particular service, God may give you a deeper understanding of how to defend your faith. In that same service, He may show your children that He is worthy of their praise. Your children may not need to understand the big terms and themes to fully participate in worship, but God does want you to take advantage of them and create teaching moments for your children.
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4) Try picking one basic concept from each family service you attend and explore it together. For
example, this upcoming Wednesday night’s service will include a Scripture passage describing Jesus’ baptism. Use the following ideas to discuss baptism with your children. beFore the Service • Read together Mark 1:9-11. Discuss how God’s words and actions showed that Jesus was special and belonged to Him. durinG the Service • Ask your children to listen for what happens to Jesus after He is baptized, then write or draw it in their worship folders. aFter the Service • Read together the following instances of baptism: Acts 8:3539; 9:17-18. • If you have been baptized, describe what happened. Explain that God wants people to be dipped under the water to show they believe Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for their sins. Coming out of the water reminds them of Jesus rising from the dead. Being baptized is how they show others that they belong to God. • If your second- through fifth-grade children are ready to learn more about baptism, they can take the Steps for Young Believers class. Contact Teri Grayson (407-949-7148 or teri.grayson@northlandchurch.net). Do you have a family worship experience or a tip you would like to share? We would love to hear from you! Send it to Becky Weldon (becky. weldon@northlandchurch.net).
LENTEN CONNECTION GROUP LESSON PLAN Week 2 Lesson Objective: To show the benefits of fellowship and solitude in the spiritual lives of believers.
Bible Truths: • We experience God’s presence in the company of other believers. • We experience God’s presence when we don’t have the distraction of others.
Optional Opener: (10 minutes) option #1: Which would be more stressful to you – spending a week alone on a deserted island, or spending a week with a group of strangers on a deserted island?
Transition: This week we are focusing on fellowship and solitude as spiritual disciplines. It is interesting that most disciplines have a counterpart: feasting and fasting; fellowship and solitude; lament and celebration. For most of us, one of each of these comes more easily, while the other is more challenging. What might be the spiritual goal or result of practicing or experiencing both sides?
Interactive Learning: “Fellowship is a word that has a secret identity these days. We mistake it as the mild-mannered potluck luncheon or picnic, when it is really the super-powered reality of the life of the Church. “Jesus said, ‘where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them’ (Matthew 18:20). There is a sense that Christ is most present in the community of His people. In the Church, God is here with hands and feet. When we look into one another’s eyes, we can see the eyes of Christ looking on us. Jesus said, ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:20). And in a very real sense, we do. It is not simply ‘imagining’ that Christ is there and we are serving him; he says that in some real way we truly are serving him” (www.watersedge.tv/ disciplines_fellowshipconfession.htm).
1. How would you define “fellowship”? 2. When have you experienced it as described in this article? 3. Would you say fellowship is a goal of your Connection Group’s? 4. How do you accomplish this goal? 5. In what ways might your group serve together in the community to share the power of coming together? 6. How/why is solitude as important as fellowship?
Transition: (2 minutes) In Christ’s life we can see the balance of fellowship and solitude. He lived with and traveled with His disciples and was often among the people. And yet He often withdrew to be alone or to pray. Bible Application: (15 minutes) Read together the following passages, discussing how each relates to fellowship or solitude. Matthew 4:1-2 Matthew 18:20 Acts 2:42 2 Corinthians 6:12 Challenge: (3 minutes) Connection Groups are a great place to experience fellowship. Challenge your group members to join you this week in finding time for solitude. It can be for an hour, or a day, but be intentional about it. Suggest that they look at their time this week and try to be intentional about both kinds of time.
Transition: Give group members an opportunity to share their experience with fasting or feasting from the last week. This can be from their own personal experience or from the group feast that you shared. Be prepared to share your own thoughts, in case others are hesitant.
Closing: (2 minutes) Join hands for closing prayer. Thank God for the gift of other believers. Ask for His help and presence as you dismiss and go out into the world. Ask for His help and presence as you each seek Him in solitude this week.

PREACHING THE MESSAGE THIS WEEKEND DR. JOEL C. HUNTER, SENIOR PASTOR
........................................................................................................................................................................................... Dr. Hunter believes we can accomplish more because of our differences than we would on our own—without giving up our unique identities. He says, “Both spiritual and intellectual maturity grow from differences. A distributed church uses contrasts to accomplish Kingdom purposes.” Since June 1985, Dr. Hunter has served as senior pastor of Northland. Before bringing his family to Northland, Dr. Hunter served as a United Methodist pastor for 15 years in Indiana. He and his wife, Becky, have been partners in the ministry since their marriage in 1972. A longtime bridge builder who seeks common ground for the common good, Dr. Hunter approaches today’s issues in a biblical and balanced manner. He serves as a national and international leader both in compassion issues and on boards of agencies such as the National Association of Evangelicals and the World Evangelical Alliance. >>> TO READ MORE ABOUT DR. THE ESSENTIALS OF CHRISTIANITY GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT
...............................................................................
SCRIPTURE FOCUS:
ACTS 13:2-4 (NASb)
................................................................................................................................................
While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 2
WORSHIP FOCUS: ................................................................................................................................................
Worship God today for His perfect unity; there is no separation in Him. God is not divided into parts. He is whole and complete within Himself: three in one, one in three. It is through His Spirit that we have true unity as the body of Christ. SUMMARY PRAYER: ................................................................................................................................................
“Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before His passion prayed for His disciples that they might be one, even as Thou and He are one: Grant that Thy church, being bound together in love and obedience to Thee, may be untied in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in Him whom Thou didst send, the same Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer)
