ABOUT Northland ..............................................................................
.............................................................................................................................................................
Our Vision To see people coming to Christ and growing in Him as we link local and global communities for ministry and worship everywhere, every day.
At Northland, we always open our worship services by saying, “Thank you for bringing the church into these rooms!” Why? Because Northland is a church distributed, gathering in Longwood, Mount Dora, Oviedo and West Oaks, and at more than 1,000 sites worldwide via the Web. In other words, it isn’t the physical structure or the many programs that make up the church ... it’s people like you. You are the church. And it’s our goal to help you to be the church ... everywhere, every day.
Our Mission To call people to know and follow Christ and equip them to worship and serve together.
Thank you for joining us today to worship God for who He is and what He has done. “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 1:2, NIV).

Be Encouraged; You Are His Delight! Bill Chapman Northland at Mount Dora Site Minister
F
or the next columns, we will be encouraged together. God is doing some wonderful things among the believers who worship in Mount Dora, and I want to share some of them with you so both of us can be edified in our faith. But let us begin with the simplicity of seeing ourselves through God’s eyes. What do you delight in? Friends? Athletics? Hobbies? Your family? Did you know that God delights in you? Yes, you! He says so in His Word: “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me” (Psalm 18:16, 19, NIV). During a recent quiet time, the Lord led me to this passage. How sweet it is to read that God delights in ... me! His divine love is the same for all of His children. Zephaniah expresses this delight as well: “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17). It was Jesus’ joy to die in your place. It is the Father’s pleasure to rescue you from your sins. It is the Holy Spirit’s passion to dwell in you. Our lukewarmth and our closed ears cannot quench this mighty love; they simply hinder us from enjoying His delight for us. Doesn’t this make you want to be close to Him? He longs to be close to you! James 4:5 reveals that “the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely.” He desires to be invited into your day and your situations.
When a little child is learning to walk, she takes a couple of steps and then looks back at you. She wants to show you what she has done, but she wants to remain connected to you. She may make it across the room or even down the driveway, but she regularly sets her eyes back on you. Do you want to enjoy God’s divine delight in you? Then do it! Invite Him into your thoughts with prayer, carve out time to read His Love Letter to you, and serve Him the best that you can. Believe, receive and enjoy the divine delight He has for you. He is singing over you right now! >>> MOUNTDORA.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET

‘When You Give a Banquet …’ JEREMY JOBSON Northland at Oviedo Site Minister
I
magine a social gathering that was put together for the sole purpose of those not invited. A group of women did just that last weekend in Oviedo. The guest speaker for the Women’s Tea, titled “In Her Shoes,” was local social activist and visionary Krissy Todd, founder of the Hope Foundation. Krissy shared her story and what it has been like to be “in her shoes” as God has moved her from small business owner and mom to outreach ministry and homeless/poverty advocate. Krissy then talked about what it is like to be in their shoes, the shoes of the women she serves every week through the food pantry in Oviedo. What it must be like to have had a home, a job, a family, a normal life, and have had it all disappear for whatever reason, and how they have to cope and survive. These stories are riveting, and they are not in some foreign land; they are here in our own back yards. The tea and food were great, and Krissy painted a picture of how great our God is and how He works through the lives of normal individuals to further the work of His Kingdom. The women in attendance were able to see and hear how God creates opportunities for each and every one of us to be the bearers of the Good News, putting hands and feet to the Gospel, where we are with what we’ve got, right now. What an event, right? Well, that is not even the best part … The end of the event was marked with a vision that was cast for all the women in attendance that I want to share with each of you. These questions were asked: “What if we did this for them? What if we threw a tea party and fed and showered these women in need in our own community with love and
gifts and what every woman enjoys and specifically needs? What if there were gift cards; bags of donated clothes or food; salon, pedicure and manicure certificates; facials; prayer; conversation; and hope shared?” Wow, now that is an idea! Luke 14:12-14 says: “Then Jesus said to his host, ‘When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous’” (NIV). Please keep praying about ways you can be involved in this outreach event that will take place in the fall through our partnership with the Hope Foundation. If you were unable to be at the tea, or you are a guy, then be praying about ways to be involved in a support role through donating, volunteering and definitely through prayer! Contact Maggie Jobson (mjobson@cfl.rr.com) or Terry Tinsley (tatinsley@mac.com) for details on how you can “be a part of it” with all of us here at Northland at Oviedo! We continue to pray that each of you will passionately pursue Christ in your life in such a way that you will be compelled to do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are, right now!

Having an Attitude of Prayer
I
BEGINS TODAY!
Ladies Tea table hosts.
news@westoaks want to thank the elders and leadership teams who challenged us to pray and fast on Thursdays for 12 weeks. As we have been praying for our own spiritual growth, our church as a whole, finances and making a difference in the world we live in, the attitudes of those who have been praying are changing every day. I know those of us at West Oaks have been trying to live our lives in this spirit of prayer and seeing what God does in and through us as we have prayed and fasted. It has truly been a blessing for all of us to be united in this way. To go a little further, our relationship with Christ and with others is dependent on this personal time with our Savior. I think many of us overlook how powerful prayer is in our lives, so we skip over that part of our relationship with Christ and trust in our own strength. My hope in our time of prayer together as a church is that it would begin transforming our lives into the image of who Christ desires for us to be. When we love God in ways that honor Him, we begin to understand what it means to worship Him for who He is and what He has done. The Holy Spirit is revealing Himself to us, and we are seeing how we can care for and love each other through His power. It has been awesome to be a witness to how God is using our time together. Here are some specific things we have been praying about for our West Oaks site: • Personal spiritual growth and love for Christ for

Please keep these needs in your prayers as you spend time praying and fasting each Thursday over the next few weeks. I believe we will see God do amazing things. >>> WESTOAKS.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET

Hello, boys and girls. Welcome to the Beehive! I’m Buzz. Stick with me during our family worship service, and we’ll learn more about who God is and what He has done!
Today we worship the God of justice. He could not let sin go unpunished, so He sent His Son to take the punishment for our sins. Thank Him for that!

Answer: WHY ISN’T LIFE FAIR?
Why isn’t life fair? Job 21:6-7; Psalm 82:3-4 Have you ever wondered why life is not fair? Job wondered about that, too. Job asked, “Why do sinful people keep on living? The older they grow, the richer they get!” In Psalm 82, Asaph asks God to “stand up for those who are weak and for those whose fathers have died. See to it that those who are poor and those who are beaten down are treated fairly. Save the weak and those who are in need. Save them from the power of sinful people.” We cannot change the unfair things that happen, but we can show God’s goodness by protecting others and helping those who have been treated unfairly. Life is not fair now, but God is fair. One day Jesus will come back to judge the earth and make all things fair!
I’m a fairy funny bee.

id you know there are more than 2,350 verses in the Bible about money? Did you know that nearly half of Jesus’ parables are about possessions? The Bible is full of wise counsel about our financial decisions. In fact, Jesus had more to say about money than about heaven and hell combined. Crown Financial Ministries has a 30-year history of equipping people worldwide to learn, apply and teach God’s financial principles so they may know Christ more intimately, be free to serve Him, and help fund the Great Commission. A seven-week, video-based Crown Financial small group study will be offered on Sundays, June 7
through July 26, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Northland at Longwood, room 4209. Led by Bob Shoemaker, this course teaches biblical financial management and practical tools and resources to help you manage your finances God’s way. Bob Shoemaker has been a member of Northland since 1991. He was a financial planner for 17 years and has been the area director for Crown Financial Ministries for the last nine years. The cost for materials is $16, and these can be purchased at the class: Managing Our Finances God’s Way DVD, workbook and savings package. STARTS THIS WEEKEND!
STARTS NEXT WEEKEND!
T
his week Dr. Hunter continues the new preaching series, “Challenges to Christianity — Brief Answers to Common Questions,” with his sermon “If God Is Good, Why Isn’t Life Fair?” For many people, the circumstances of life often pose challenges to faith. But God doesn’t back down from a challenge. He is not intimidated by our doubts and fears. He will use them as the very things that bring us to a clearer knowledge and understanding of Him. Below are some resources available in the Northland Bookstore that address many of the struggles with faith we experience: Is God Really in Control? Trusting God in a World of Terrorism, Tsunamis, and Personal Tragedy, by Jerry Bridges There’s no more crucial topic in today’s world than understanding what God is up to in the midst of personal and global tragedy. Author Jerry Bridges offers comfort and hope by exploring the greater purposes of God, in light of Scripture. Good News About Injustice: A Witness of Courage in a Hurting World, by Gary Haugen You no longer have to feel powerless and frustrated in the face of cruelty and hatred. Here is a book that will show you how to bring real hope to our hurting world. Gary Haugen says that by courageously exposing the truth and removing the means of force, each of us can take part in God’s ongoing works of mercy. It’s Not Fair! Finding Hope When Times Are Tough, by Wayne A. Mack with Deborah Howard Knowing who God is, understanding His character, has incredible practical value in facing painful circumstances of life. A deep personal knowledge of God will help us handle events and experiences that we don’t desire and don’t think we deserve. This will keep us from responding to the unpleasant and unwanted experiences in life with the thoughts and words “It’s not fair.”
RELEVANTRESOURCES
T
he following resources are available for use from the Northland Resource Library to any family, group or individual who wants to grow in the faith through Christ-centered studies. Details: Suzanne McCutchen (407971-2050) The Life You’ve Always Wanted, by John Ortberg (Six-session DVD plus workbook) If you’re tired of the status quo – if you suspect there’s more to Christianity than what you’ve experienced – John Ortberg invites you and your small group to join him on a road to transformation and spiritual vigor that anyone can take. Designated to help you make the journey together, The Life You’ve Always Wanted (Zondervan) guides you down the ancient path of the spiritual disciplines. Cultivate new intimacy and confidence in prayer. Discover the freedom of secrecy. Taste the benefits of slowing life’s frenetic pace. Learn how to be guided by the Holy Spirit ... and more. Moving Through Your Problems Toward Finding God, by Dr. Larry Crabb (Six weeks, workbook plus video) In today’s psychological culture, we have become a people more concerned with solving our problems than finding God. Whenever we place a higher priority on solving our problems than pursuing God, we become immoral. Finding God leads the way to real freedom and joy by insisting that looking for God in the middle of our problems, rather than requiring God to provide solutions to our problems, is the path to life.

Preaching the message this weekend: Dr. Joel C. Hunter, Senior Pastor
Dr. Hunter believes we can accomplish more because of our differences than we would on our own—without giving up our unique identities. He says, “Both spiritual and intellectual maturity grow from differences. A distributed church uses contrasts to accomplish Kingdom purposes.” Since June 1985, Dr. Hunter has served as senior pastor of Northland. Before bringing his family to Northland, Dr. Hunter served as a United Methodist pastor for 15 years in Indiana. He and his wife, Becky, have been partners in the ministry since their marriage in 1972. A longtime bridge builder who seeks common ground for the common good, Dr. Hunter approaches today’s issues in a biblical and balanced manner. He serves as a national and international leader both in compassion issues and on boards of agencies such as the National Association of Evangelicals and the World Evangelical Alliance. >>> TO READ MORE ABOUT DR. HUNTER, VISIT WWW.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET.
THIS WEEKEND’S MESSAGE:
Worship focus:
Challenges to Christianity: Brief Answers to Common Questions If God Is Good, Why Isn’t Life Fair?
................................................................................
Scripture focus:
Worship God today as the Champion of justice. “God’s justice means that He always acts in accordance with what is right and is Himself the final standard of what is right” (Wayne Grudem). Though life’s circumstances may seem unfair, we can trust in God’s ultimate justice.
Job 21:6-7; Psalm 82:3-4 (nasb)
..............................................................................................................................................
Job 21:6-7 Even when I remember, I am disturbed, and horror takes hold of my flesh. Why do the wicked still live, continue on, also become very powerful? Psalm 82:3-4 Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
Summary prayer: ................................................................................
Father, teach us true religion – doing justly, loving mercy, walking humbly with You, visiting the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and keeping ourselves unspotted by the world. RELEVANT READS AND RESOURCES ARE ON PAGE 10.
