A Faith on Fire Bill Chapman Northland at Mount Dora Site Minister
A
friend of mine who worships in Mount Dora has just started reading the Bible. He told me recently that he has completed the Gospel of John and is now pressing on into new books of Scripture. He said that God is really speaking to him and showing him things that he needs to know. He even shared about a dream he had of serving the Lord in a mighty way. This man’s faith is catching on fire. What is your faith like? If you are a believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit is inside you. He is encouraging, challenging, even tugging at you to commune with God through the Word, prayer, service and worship. You will not be truly content until you are seeking after God. The Holy Spirit
longs to work in and through you. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV). Are you delighting in God? “Delight yourself in the Lord” doesn’t mean “I accepted Jesus as my Savior” or “I go to church.” It means “I love Him, I want to be with Him, and I want to share His love with other people.” Deuteronomy 30:20 exhorts us to “hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life” (NIV). Is Jesus your life? We have some great places where you can fan the flame of your faith. Whether the Tuesday morning men’s Bible study, the Wednesday evening women’s group, Mount Dora home groups, Sunday morning serve teams or projects in our community, there are venues where you and your family can grow in your faith in Christ. Spend time alone with God. Read your Bible every day if you can. Talk to Jesus regularly in prayer. Get in fellowship with other Christians. That’s Amore!
Showing God’s Love in Italy that God can use us outwardly for His glory. We learned so much on how God can move in the simplest of tasks through laughter and prayer combined! I believe that our perspective has changed; from now on, whenever we are reminded of Italy, we will always think of, and pray for, the beautiful people we met in Pordenone – Gene, Susan, Roberto, Maria, Reuben, Mateo, Ron, Doris, Lilly, Gisela, Marcello and many others. And, of course, we will not forget the wonderful food we consumed! As Roberto would frequently say in his mixed Italian and English, “It was goodissimo!”

t’s that time of year when kids gear up to head back to school. It’s also time to shop for others and to teach your children about giving supplies to those in need. We will hold a church-wide backpack drive at Northland the weekend of August 8 to 10, when you can do just that. What can I do to help children in need for their school year? Fill a backpack, which will go to a family/child in need. How do I do that? Purchase a backpack and fill it with supplies. Leave it behind your car during the worship service you attend the weekend of August 8 to 10. Teams will pick them up while you are in service. What do I put in the backpack? School supplies! Pencils, ruler, paper, notebooks, anything that can be used for the school year (see suggested supplies list below). What if I have a child who needs supplies? If you are a struggling family and would like assistance in getting your child/children school supplies, e-mail me (vanessa.puleo@northlandchurch.net) to sign up as a recipient. Making False Gods Exodus 32:1-6, 21-24, 35 Sometimes people make up a god in their minds and then think that it is real. That’s what happened to God’s people while they were waiting for Moses to come down from the mountain with the Ten Commandments. They wanted a leader and were tired of waiting for Moses. They told Moses’ brother, Aaron, “Come. Make us a god that will lead us. Moses brought us up out of Egypt. But we don’t know what has happened to him.” Aaron let the people build a statue made of gold. It looked like a calf. They danced around it and worshiped it. Northland’s Marriage Prep Course
Is a Wedding in Your Very Near Future?

orthland offers a 13-week class that begins each August and January for couples planning their future together. The course covers such topics as the roles and responsibilities of marriage partners, finances, God’s plan and purpose for marriage, and blended families. This class is required for any couple seeking to be married by a Northland minister or at one of our sites. All couples — engaged, not engaged or married without the benefit of premarital counseling — are invited to join the class on Sundays, beginning August 9, 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. in The Rink of the Student Ministries and Care Center. Discovering God’s Vision for your Marriage Presented by Inverse Ministries, Clint and Penny Bragg

he reconciliation of Clint and Penny Bragg’s marriage after an 11-year divorce and a 3,000-mile separation was nothing short of a modern-day miracle. Through the work of Inverse Ministries, their nonprofit organization, Clint and Penny serve as marriage missionaries, sharing their testimony with audiences, leading seminars for couples, and equipping ministry leaders across the nation. Dr. Hunter believes we can accomplish more because of our differences than we would on our own—without giving up our unique identities. He says, “Both spiritual and intellectual maturity grow from differences. A distributed church uses contrasts to accomplish Kingdom purposes.” Since June 1985, Dr. Hunter has served as senior pastor of Northland. Before bringing his family to Northland, Dr. Hunter served as a United Methodist pastor for 15 years in Indiana. He and his wife, Becky, have been partners in the ministry since their marriage in 1972. A longtime bridge builder who seeks common ground for the common good, Dr. Hunter approaches today’s issues in a biblical and balanced manner. Exodus 32:1-6 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, “Come, make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Aaron said to them, “Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” Then all the people tore off the gold rings which were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. He took this from their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool and made it into a molten calf; and they said, “This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” Now when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.” So the next day they rose early and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
