JUNE 27 — Service Project: Assemble Hygiene Kits We’ve spent the last several weeks collecting hygiene kit items, and on June 27, we will assemble them! Along with packaging these kits, which will go to various organizations in our community, bring your kids to help make bookmarks. Yes, adults, you can make bookmarks, too. Look for instructions after the worship service that night. Oh, and keep bringing those items from the above list. We want to package 1,000 kits!
Needed: Hygiene Kit Items!
We are collecting the items listed below on Sunday nights. Can you help? Let’s join forces and bring these items over the next three Sundays. Just drop them off in our collection boxes in the foyer. On June 27, we will have a special assembling project after the worship service, where everyone can join together to put these kits together. Our goal is to make 1,000 hygiene kits! Donate as little or as much as you are able.

mountdoranews Stories From the Field: God’s Work Through Ordinary People A Northlander inspires others to give. BILL CHAPMAN Northland at Mount Dora Site Minister
T
ony and Dawn Navarro and their sons have been part of the Northland at Mount Dora family for more than two years. They are excited about God and love to serve Him in any way they can. Tony has a big heart for the men at his workplace and is always looking for an opportunity to share Jesus with them. Northland’s recent clothing drive gave him an idea. He decided to challenge his coworkers to bring food donations into the office to be given to those in need. These men responded, and within a week, Tony had a huge box of food items given by the guys at his company. They were inspired by Tony’s challenge and gave to the Lord. This box of food sat in my office in Mount Dora for a few days, as we waited for the Lord to show us whom to give it to. Then a couple of Sundays ago, a woman showed up after the 11 a.m. service. Her son was in critical care at an Orlando hospital, and she was staying with him, far away from her home and her family in Altoona. She was requesting food to stock the cupboards at her
home so that her family would be provided for while she was away. We sent her on her way with lots of prayer and the huge box of food Tony had brought in. God used Tony to connect his coworkers with this family in need. Think about the people in your circles of influence, especially those who do not call Jesus Christ their Savior – your family, your neighbors, your fellow employees. They probably know you are a Christian. Most likely you have invited them to church. They may not want to hear you talk about God, but they do watch the way you live your life. What a great way to show Christ to them, by asking them to serve with you. Extend an invitation to give food to the needy or to help a single mom or to join a Helping Hands Serve Day. Sometimes seeing Christ and His people in action and being a part of that action is the very thing that brings a person closer to the Lord. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (NIV). This summer begin to ask the Lord how you Matthew 5:16 (NIV) can involve your unchurched friends in service to Jesus. When He gives the idea, follow through with it! You never know how the Holy Spirit will use you to meet needs and, in the process, transform the hearts of people around you!

e have been meeting on Wednesday nights for about a month now, and it has been amazing! Why wouldn’t it be? This is the body of Christ in communion with each other and with God; is there anything better? Well, rather than your taking my word for it, for the next three weeks, I simply will list some verses on the importance of prayer for us, His people! (All are taken from the NIV.)
Psalm 5:3: “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”
Exodus 33:8, 11: “And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. … The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.”
Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
1 Kings 18:36-38: “At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: ‘O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.’ Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.” 1 Chronicles 16:11: “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will
Psalm 17:1: “Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer – it does not rise from deceitful lips.” Psalm 25:1: “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.”
Psalm 50:15: “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalm 55:17: “Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.” Psalm 65:1-2: “Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come.” Psalm 142:1-2: “I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble.” Psalm 145:18: “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Proverbs 15:8: “The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.” Proverbs 15:29: “The Lord is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.”
Daniel 6:10: “Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” Daniel 9:3-4: “So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands ….’” Daniel 10:12: “Then he continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.’” Habakkuk 2:1: “I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.” Matthew 5:43-45: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:5-12: “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.’” >>> OVIEDO.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET
aroundnorthland West Oaks Regroups to Keep Northland on the West Side By Mary Ann Young
W
ith the departure of some of our congregation, a team of longtime Northlanders is pulling together for the purpose of remaining an expression of Northland in West Orange County. We will continue to worship through the summer in the same location, St. Pauls Presbyterian in Ocoee at 9 a.m. Sundays. While you will no longer “see us” on your screens, we will be worshiping with you. There are 20 to 30 of us, which meant squeezing into a living room wasn’t an option, so we decided to ask God to let us dream big and work on connecting Northlanders in our areas, which range from Orlando, MetroWest, Pine Hills, Dr. Phillips, Ocoee, Winter Garden, Windermere, Oakland, Clermont and Sanford. Here are some thoughts from the team on what it means for us to be our church in our community: “This is a great opportunity for us to be part of how God distributes His church. We’re somewhere between a site like Mount Dora and a home (simple) church. What will this look like? How will God connect us as
a community and out in the community? How do we connect to the church in Longwood? I’m excited because I trust God will answer these and many other questions as we ‘do life together.’” — Larry Szrom “To be a good witness of Christian benevolence and love for our neighbors who are in need so they will desire what we possess – a belief in Jesus Christ and the eternal salvation that comes with that belief. Also, to encourage and assist our fellow Christians who are responding to the call Jesus has laid on their hearts. Finally, to pray continually for discernment and wisdom as we listen to God’s will in our lives. An exchanged life – not our will, but God’s will be done.” — Marty and Betty McCoy
More than 30 people still gather in the West Oaks area to worship with Northland via webstream.

ast Saturday morning a group of Northlanders arrived at the Rink with the common goal of living their faith and sharing God’s love for others through service in the local community. After checking in, fueling up with some coffee and doughnuts, and having a word of prayer, the groups set out to their work sites. Serve Teams were distributed to Harvest Time International, where they were busy packing, sorting and stocking items that would later be distributed to those in need as well as to The Sharing Center, where they assisted with landscaping, cleanup and painting. In addition, a Serve Team also helped to freshen up the Children’s Worship Wing with a new coat of paint. A lot of valuable work was done, and a ton of fun was had! Overall, it was a privilege to see so many Northlanders move beyond the walls of our physical church and into our communities, where they are “being the church” through serving the greater needs of those around us. Interested in serving others? Not sure where to start? Then consider signing up for our next Local Serve Day on July 10! Projects are available for all ages and abilities and are typically completed by 1 p.m. that day. No special skills are required. Answer: COMPANION
A Marriage Made in Heaven Genesis 24:12-14
Abraham wanted his son Isaac to find a wife who loved God. So he sent his servant with 10 camels to find a wife for Isaac. The servant stopped at a well and prayed, “Lord, You are the God of my master Abraham. Give me success today. I will speak to a young woman. I’ll say, ‘Please lower your jar so I can have a drink.’ Suppose she says, ‘Have a drink of water and I’ll get some for your camels too.’ Then let her be the one You have chosen for Your servant Isaac.” Just then, a maiden named Rebekah came to the well. She said and did everything just as he had prayed. He knew she was the one God had chosen for Isaac. She married Isaac, and they were very happy together!
Oh. Will you bee my friend?
Draw a picture of the 10 camels at the well with Abraham’s servant and Rebekah.
I’d bee happy to!

Opportunities for Men to Grow in Faith, Change Lives Great Dads Sundays, through August 1, 9 a.m. room 4210, Longwood site

ost fathers want to be great dads. Most fathers were never shown how. A father who spiritually and emotionally connects with his children gives them the best chance to succeed, and to find the plan and purpose God has for their lives. Give your family a great gift this Father’s Day that will have eternal impact. Join the Great Dads class that is based on the book by the same name, by Robert D. Hamrin. This six-week class will help dads develop a plan to make an impact in their family’s lives. The course will cover tried and true principles like these: • Showing unconditional love. • Creating quality time. • Communicating with your kids. • Partnering for parenting. • Instilling moral and spiritual values. Choose what kind of legacy you will leave your family. It is not too late to get it right. The class will be held Sundays, June 13 to August 1 at 9 a.m. at Northland at Longwood, room 4210. Mentoring Young Men
A
s a young man growing up, who was your primary influence? Who walked with you into manhood? For some of us, it was a coach, a grandfather or a mature friend who took an interest in our lives. For others, it was a father who fulfilled that role. Unfortunately, more than 36 million children in America do not have a father living in their home. Even in Northland’s Middle School Ministry, more than 300 young boys are in need of a positive male role model for their lives. Most single mothers do an amazing job, but there are areas in a boy’s life that are best served by a man who can be an example and talk about the difficulties of adolescence. The Mentoring Ministry at Northland is looking for men of all ages willing to give an hour a week to change the course of a boy’s life. We are seeing God work through men who have expanded their families through mentoring. A 15-year-old boy who would not open up for three months now gives his mentor a list of things he needs to talk about each week. Without this godly man in his life, he would be left to discovering the answers to his questions from the world. Take advantage of this opportunity to have an eternal impact on the life of a boy who likely will someday be a husband and father! Details: Shaylynn Stoner (shaylynn.stoner@ northlandchurch.net or 407-949-7194) or David Keys (NLMentoring@gmail.com or 407-256-5576)

Worship in the Arts Camp Available at Northland his July, Northland will offer a Worship in the Arts Camp for children grades three through eight – providing an encouraging environment for one week of instruction in the disciplines of song, dance, visual arts and spiritual growth. Instruction and mentoring will be provided by professional artists within the Northland community working alongside worship interns. Goals of the camp include developing each child’s talent, engaging children in reflecting upon their own part in God’s story, and encouraging each child in expressing his or her story more effectively and authentically. In keeping with Northland’s mission of equipping young artists for a lifetime of worship, the week will culminate in an evening of celebration and service for families in our community, a Northland Family Celebrate & Serve Night! The young artists attending the camp will present The Story, a musical celebration using Scripture, visual arts, dance and song to express the story of who God is and what He has done. Afterward the Northland community will gather in the foyer alongside partner organization Change This World Inc. to pack Kids Against Hunger meals for the children of Haiti. The evening will

In 25 years, our church family has grown from 200 to a congregation of more than 12,0 00 actively worshiping and serving in local, state, national and global outreach es. “Everywhere I go, people tell me what a blessing Northland’s cong regants are,” Dr. Hunter says. “There’s nothing that warms my heart more than hearing about Northlanders mak ing a difference for Jesus Christ.” To commemorate 25 years of mini stry together, Pastor Hunter and those of us who call Northland our chur ch home, will celebrate this mile stone anniversary by doing what this chur ch always does best. We will than k God for Who He is and what He has done. And we will do that through a special 25th anniversary offering that will be taken the weekend of June 26 through 28. This entire offering will go to Northland and will be used by the church to honor God — to do the Kingdom work of the One who brought us together. Our hope is that this offering migh t make up the $581,074 to bring our budget back in line. Pastor Hunter is look ing forward to many more years of ministry with us, as we are with him, and with one another ... everywhere, every day. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me (marc.mcmurr in@ northlandchurch.net or 407-9370568).

Preaching the message this weekend: Vernon Rainwater, Pastor
“Thank you for bringing the church into these rooms. We have a reason for being together. It is to worship God for who He is and what He has done.” — Pastor Vernon Pastor Vernon Rainwater leads Northland in worship when we gather together for church “in these rooms.” A native of Wilmore, Kentucky, Vernon has been a part of the worship leadership at Northland for 20 years. While distributed ministry and worship are the two primary areas of his focus, his desire is to motivate each generation to live a life of worship everywhere, every day. Vernon has been a musician since he was 17, but he has worked in social work, law enforcement and served in the military as well. With a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Kentucky, he also holds graduate degrees from the University of Kentucky in social work and from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in biblical studies. Vernon and his wife, Connie, have two daughters: Claire and Mandy. Mandy and her husband, Chad Turnbull, live in Casselberry, Florida, and have blessed the Rainwaters with three grandchildren. Claire and her husband, Aaron Reed, live in New York City, where Claire attends Columbia University. >>> TO READ MORE ABOUT PASTOR VERNON, VISIT WWW.NORTHLANDCHURCH.NET.

Happy Together … Growing Together as We Grow in Christ True Companions Scripture focus:
Genesis 24:12-14; Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
Worship focus:
...............................................................................................................................................
........................................................................
GENESIS 24:12-14
Worship God today for His lovingkindness. He is our true Companion, and He brings into our lives faithful friends with whom we can share our journey.
And he said, “O LORD, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. Let the young woman to whom I shall say, ‘Please let down your jar that I may drink,’ and who shall say, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels’ — let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master.” PROVERBS 3:5-6
summary prayer: ....................................................................
Father, You Yourself have declared that it is not good for man to be alone. In Your lovingkindness, bring to each of us true companions. But most of all, teach us to cling to You as the truest Companion, who sticks closer than a brother.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
