ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER’S CONTRIBUTIONS WORSHIP FOCUS: Worship God today for His sovereignty. In His sovereignty, God has

arranged for each believer to have a role in His kingdom. Because of the gifts He gives us, we each can bring something unique to others’ lives and to the body of Christ. When we pray and worship together, our many voices unite into one voice. In eternity, all believers of all time, from every language, tribe and nation will join around the throne, bringing glory to His name.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: 1 Corinthians 12:14-17, 21-23 (NASB) For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? …

Northland, A Church Distributed northlandchurch.net/about WHAT WE BELIEVE The Bible

— We believe the Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, is verbally inspired of God, is inerrant in the original writings, and is the Christian’s final authority in faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16)

God

— The Trinity — We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 6:8) Jesus Christ — We believe by miracle of the virgin birth that the Lord Jesus Christ, eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God in order to reveal God and to redeem man. He is the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and arose bodily from the dead for our justification. He is now exalted at the right hand of God, Head of the Church and Lord of the individual believer, fulfilling His ministry as our Great High Priest and Advocate. (Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-3) Holy Spirit — We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates and converts sinners, and baptizes them into the church, which is the body of Christ. We believe that He indwells, guides, instructs and empowers the believer for godly living and service, and that He seals and keeps him until the Lord comes. We believe that He bestows spiritual gifts upon each one. We believe that the believer has received one or more spiritual gifts so that he might exercise them for the strengthening and outreach of the body of Christ. The practice of any gift in any gathered body shall be in keeping with the Scripture. (John 14:16-17; Ephesians 4:30; 1 Corinthians 12:7)

The Means of Salvation

— We believe that salvation from the guilt and condemnation of sin is possible only as the gift of God’s grace. It cannot be gained by good resolutions, sincere efforts, or submission to the rules, regulations or ordinances of any church, but is freely bestowed on all who put their faith in Christ and trust in the work that Christ accomplished on the cross of Calvary. All who so trust the Savior pass from death unto life, and are forgiven of their sins, accepted by the Father, and born into His family by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. (John 5:24; Ephesians 1:67; 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23)

Security, Assurance and Responsibility

— We believe that all the saved, those in whom God has accomplished His transforming work of grace, are kept by His power and are thus secure in Christ forever. It is their privilege to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation. However, this assurance must not be the occasion for sin, for God in His holiness cannot tolerate persistent sin in His children, and in infinite love He corrects them.

True faith in Christ is expressed by a fruitful, God-pleasing life. (John 10:27-29; Romans 8:1939; 1 John 5:13; Hebrews 12:6; Matthew 7:20; James 2:20)

Man

— We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that he sinned, incurring not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God and which is inherited by every member of Adam’s race. We believe that man is subject to the power of the devil and has within himself no possible means of recovery or salvation.

(Genesis 1:26; 1 John 1:8-10; Romans 6:23)

The Church

— We believe that the true church is composed of all who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, that those who are members of the true church will be eligible for membership in the local church. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to be observed by the church during the present age. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are acts of obedience to the Lord. Participation in them, though, is not to be regarded in any sense as a means of salvation. (Acts 2)

OUR PURPOSE: WHY WE ARE HERE From its inception in 1972, Northland has been unwavering in its purpose: To bring people to maturity in Christ.

OUR VISION: WHAT WE SEE

A vision is a clear mental picture of a preferable future. It sees the future through the eyes of faith.

It shares the perspective of the biblical writer when he wrote the following words: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1, NASB).

Northland’s vision is to see people coming to Christ, and to be transformed together as we link locally and globally to worship and serve everywhere, every day.

OUR MISSION: WHAT WE DO

At Northland, we believe God’s call to us as a body of believers is to respond to Him for the benefit of others. There are countless ways that one can respond to God’s grace and goodness.

We have identified the following ways that we, as a church, regularly want to respond together: Worship God — John 4:21 Glorify God for who He is and what He has done.

Read the Bible — Jeremiah 1:12 Study God’s message to you often.

Share your story — 1 Peter 3:15 Tell others what God is doing in your life.

Be in community — John 13:35 Foster environments for relationship.

Pray — 1 Peter 3:12 Engage in conversation with God. Serve others — Matthew 25:40 Meet the needs of the people around you.

Live generously — Matthew 6:21 Give what God’s given you.

We believe that as we respond to God together we will be transformed into the image of Christ.

The Christian’s Walk

— We believe that we are called with a holy calling to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit, and so to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit of God. The flesh (our natural desire), which in this life is never fully eradicated, must be kept by the Spirit (through our walk of faith), constantly in subjection to Christ, or it will surely manifest its presence in our lives, to the dishonor of our Lord. — We believe that the souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation do, at death, immediately pass into His presence and there remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming for the church, when soul and glorified body, reunited, will be associated with Him forever in glory. We believe that unbelievers will be punished with everlasting separation from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power. (John 3:15-16; Hebrews 9:28; Matthew 25:41-46)

Responding to Tragedies, Trauma as the Body of Christ

A

s we head into August, some people are preparing for school, some are beginning new chapters of life, and others are just longing for cooler temperatures. We are leaving June and July, two of the strangest, violent months for our community and so many others, with the tragedies of Pulse nightclub in Orlando; Dallas; Falcon Heights, Minn.; Baton Rouge, La.; Clendenin, W.Va.; Baghdad; and Saudi Arabia, to name a few of the more noteworthy.

On this page (and on Northland’s blog) are some peeks into ways the Northland congregation, Serve teams, distributed churches, leaders and pastors have responded to what has happened not only locally, but around the country, and a look ahead at some ways you can join in the ongoing response to tragedy and the trauma people experience from it as the body of Christ embracing the mission to LOVE!

Responding to Trauma: Love Is the Answer

BY JEREMY JOBSON Oftentimes when you ask someone if he or she has ever experienced trauma, the person quickly responds, “Nope, never been to war” or, “Never been the victim of a crime” or, “Never been in a natural disaster,” and that is understandable.

On goodtherapy.org, Marjie L. Roddick, a licensed mental health counselor, describes it like this: “Trauma can be defined as an event that falls outside the range of usual human experience that causes distress. Trauma can be either human-made or from natural causes. Examples of human-made trauma include physical or sexual violence, war, car accidents, or witnessing the injury of someone else.

Natural traumatic events might include floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. The way people experience trauma can be grouped into two types: big T and little t. A big T event is one that most people would consider traumatic, such as a plane crash, or the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one. A little t event is one experienced as traumatic at a personal level, such as the loss of a pet or a relationship breakup.”

From here, and thinking about the blog I wrote in July on secondary trauma for responders, neighbors, friends and surrounding communities, we start to see little t trauma all around us. Here is a thought on all this as a pastor: The Fall is big T traumatic, and it has some effect on everything and everyone. It separates us from God and one another, introduces shame and hiding, brings about envy and violence, and ultimately leads us to idolatry — all of which lead to the destruction of our relationship with God, one another and even ourselves.

Love is the answer, as we have heard so often in the wake of Pulse from Pastor Joel and Pastor Matt to community leaders and even police chiefs — love and not judgment or hate, the love of our friends, our neighbors, those different from us, maybe even our enemies (Luke 6:2742). Love is a posture, a state of being, an action, and most importantly, it is a person and a relationship, for God is love (1 John 4:8). Love protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres and never fails (1 Corinthians 13:7-8).

Bringing Healing to Children

BY DEBBIE BLAHNIK In the aftermath of the world’s greatest tragedies — from genocide and natural disasters to domestic abuse — people endure wounds of the soul and spirit. Without intervention, they can become trapped in cycles of poverty and violence.

But through God’s Word, these people find hope.

Bible-based trauma healing sessions are designed to equip suffering people to encounter God’s Word and help them take their pain and suffering to the cross of Christ for healing from trauma.

One by one, American Bible Society (ABS) is working to use the beautiful restoration narrative in the gospel to heal the wounds of the heart. As image bearers of Christ, our commitment to the mission field of the traumatized is deep and our passion is to see the world through mercy-filled eyes.

Children suffer the same trauma as adults, but in more profound ways with increased vulnerability and powerlessness that is simply part of being a child. ABS’ Healing Hearts Club programs for children help hundreds of thousands of young trauma victims all over the world give voice to their pain and fear while they learn about the healing found in a relationship with Jesus. Using stories, games, art and music, sound mental health strategies and biblical truths combine to offer comfort and healing to children’s wounded hearts.

A Pastor’s Reflection From the Front Lines

BY JOHN TARDONIA Pastor Joel and others from the Northland family continually play a proactive role in the community in antihuman trafficking, anti-violence and unity work year round. In fact, more than 40 meetings, events, articles and interviews (some can be found on the main blog page) have taken place in 2016 alone. Pastor John Tardonia shares his thoughts from one of them.

The day after the Pulse shooting, a vigil was held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Northland was asked to send someone to represent the faith community, and I accepted the invitation to stand with other faith leaders.

While waiting for the vigil to begin, I met two women who were in the club during the shooting. One lost four of her friends, and the other was trapped in the bathroom with the shooter. The look of shock and terror on their faces is unforgettable.

The event drew around 8,000 people to remember the victims and their families. As the participants took the stage, they all passionately presented their condolences and causes. Love, not hate, was the central message and was displayed on signs throughout the crowd.

As I was getting ready to leave the event, I received a text from my wife, Karen, who watched from home, that said, “My heart is grieving.” As I was lost in the experience of all this, her words brought clarity to what I was feeling. I was grieving not only for the hurting families who lost loved ones, but also for where we are as a culture. I am not sure we will see any of this clearly until we see the tear formed in God’s eye as He looks from Heaven.

I don’t remember a time when I felt more like a stranger in this world. The apostle Peter reminds us that we are indeed foreigners (1 Peter 2:11). Yet we are called to go into all the world with the message of hope.

So this is the challenge we face as followers of Jesus.

What does it look like for us to intentionally enter into a world that feels strange to us with the love and compassion of Christ without judging or conforming to the world? How can we be salt and light? How can we be living hope against the darkness? This is something we can figure out together as we look to Jesus, the Light of the world.

Stories of Hope in the Middle East

urn on any news broadcast or open any newspaper, and you most likely will see or read dispiriting current events taking place in the Middle East — another bombing, more lives lost, terrorists threatening the lives of those of their own faith and other faiths. The stories from the Middle East are anything but hopeful.

However, there are stories from the Middle East that you won’t hear on the news. There are stories of hope, of lives redeemed, and of the lost and lonely experiencing love.

Northland’s partner church in the country of recently held a missions conference where pastors, missionaries and Christians from throughout the Middle East gathered to share these stories of hope.

Is hope attainable for these people? Christians throughout the Middle East say yes through their actions as they devote themselves to caring for refugees and displaced people. One Syrian woman sends her thanks to churches in other parts of the world — including the West — for their support and prayers. “Extend our thanks to those who pray for us and send support. Not only do they help provide warmth when it is cold and food for our hunger, but they give us strength and hope.”

Expecting the Unexpected For those serving refugees living in the Middle East, certain stories provide the hope and strength needed to press on. The stories of unexpected faith journeys prove to be especially uplifting. One such story is of a Muslim man with two wives and 15 children who had been displaced . Pressing On Amid Persecution For other Christians living in countries and areas ruled by Islamic law, the threat of persecution does not tempt them to flee to safety. A pastor in has been beaten and persecuted by the police on numerous occasions, yet when he is told to go to South Sudan with all the other Christians, he refuses. “These are my people, and I will stay with them!” On one such occasion, the police invaded his church and destroyed his books and computer. They beat him and tied him up next to the car, making him stumble along it as they drove to the jail. “You will be an example to other Christians,” he was told. He refuses to leave his church and his home, as he knows that access to the gospel is rare for those around him.

Hope for the Future For many Christians in these countries, hope is attainable even in the most dire of situations. One pastor from reflects on these stories and more and says, “The Middle East we knew is gone — this missions work has made it a new place.”

Churches reaching out to refugees and wanderers are blessed to see the transformation that comes for the lost and lonely when they experience love. One Kurdish boy visiting a church in was brought to tears when he heard a song with lyrics stating Jesus cares for him. The Holy Spirit touched his heart and revealed the truth that God loves him.

Christians who move to other countries to serve as missionaries experience how God uses them across culture and borders. One woman from serving in Syria started a school for displaced children. Before each class, she led the children — most of them Muslim — in prayer to Jesus. Today, if she forgets to pray, the children remind her! She attests to how these PTSD-stricken children went from showing no emotion to laughing with joy in their eyes.

The stories of despair during these crises are not new to the world. But the stories of hope and of God’s love permeating the darkness are hidden gems to much of the world. Pray for the church in the Middle East, for refugees and for those who do not yet know Jesus.

When Helping Hurts 2-Day Seminar

Community Resource Network:

Responding to Homelessness Through the Faith Community

D

id you know that Florida ranked highest in the nation in the rate of families experiencing homelessness, according to The 2014 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)?

What does that mean for Central Florida? One in 50 families in Central Florida, and one in 17 children, will experience homelessness during the course of this year.

Think about that. Given these statistics, it’s not a stretch to assume you know a family without a home, even if you don’t know it. Despite the best efforts of federally funded organizations, nonprofits and other ministries whose desire it is to eliminate homelessness, there’s still a long way to go before we can say this social justice issue is resolved.

It’s not all bad news when it comes to homelessness in Central Florida. Point-in-time counts earlier this year showed a double-digit decrease in the number of homeless folks on the street, and just a few weeks ago, the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness announced that virtually all homeless veterans have been housed. These are milestones worth celebrating, but there’s a lot of work yet to be done.

That’s where the church comes in.

When it comes to serving the homeless, the faith community has a place in responding. In fact, recent research shows that faith-based approaches improve the success rate of families coming out of homelessness.

When we come alongside and complement the work that governments and social agencies are doing, the collaboration reaps results that move beyond meeting immediate and tangible needs.

With the faith community serving families transitioning into permanent housing, emotional, spiritual and relational needs are addressed. There’s a holistic approach to disconnectedness, bringing restoration among God, self, others and the rest of creation. The approach to caring for these families includes community-building opportunities that help restore social capital and build a sense of belonging. Perhaps the way churches can best help is not through the stuff we give, but through the hope we offer. Prayer, hope and encouragement are extended in the context of relationship and community.

It’s likely that had these families been part of a stronger community network, they would not have become homeless

to begin with.

So what does that mean for churches? For us?

Northland has been called to recruit and mobilize a faith network with churches all over Central Florida. We’re calling it Community Resource Network. Each congregation is unique and has abundant resources — not financial resources, but people resources. Classes, ministries, studies, family events. Congregants who have specialized skills and gifts who can serve families looking to rebuild, restore and thrive. The resources truly are endless when we think about how God uniquely created each person.

Practically speaking, we’ll need volunteers to help with data entry and administration, and relational and advocacy training with other churches in the network. Additionally, we’ll need some who just know how to ask the right questions and help others see the resources they have to offer to the larger network. Don’t worry! We’ll train you first so you feel equipped to serve well.

We’re not alone in this. Along with the other churches in the network, Seminole County Public Schools and several local social agencies, we will begin to change the state of homelessness in our own backyard.

Forming Spiritual Families

W

hat would it look like if you built a church without walls? Would there be music? Would people even show up? One recent weekend, two distributed church leaders decided to test these questions and took more than 30 college students and young adults to the beach to stay in one house for the weekend. They represented three different distributed churches that meet regularly in homes throughout the Orlando area.

Our goal was simple: to help these churches begin to understand “the church as family on mission together.”

Since our desire was for everyone to begin to function as a family, we asked them to throw out their idea of what a retreat weekend should be and encouraged them to view this weekend as a family vacation. We even called it “Family Vacation 2016,” and it felt like one! Participants went paddleboarding, collected shark teeth, laughed a lot, shared meals around the table, and had many conversations that turned spiritual. The weekend also brought very little sleep, a lack of toilet paper and some disagreements, but that’s what families endure as they travel together through life.

We pushed this family in formation to detach from the grind of everyday life and be present with one another and with the world. Guess what happened? We formed friendships, and offered forgiveness and reconciliation. Our differences began to unite us and not drive us apart, we affirmed giftings, and we clarified our mission.

On Saturday night, we headed out to Manasota Beach

to offer up baptism, and two of our interns, Mady Riedlinger and Austin Linder, chose to take this beautiful next step.

Tears were shed, hugs were shared, and love was made known in real time. As one of our young adults stated: “Each moment was perfectly orchestrated by God to glorify God. Maybe this generation is not just all about the newest Instagram filter or Pokémon Go character. We just needed a spark, an idea, an opportunity to let the Holy Spirit work in our lives so that we may transform the people around us.”

In a unique way, beachgoers, and even neighbors of the rental house, witnessed a collection of Jesus followers being

transformed into a spiritual family dedicated to bringing the light of Jesus into the dark corners of our neighborhoods and city. It was an incredible experience of the presence of Christ in the midst of a developing spiritual family.

all is a great time at Northland for adults to take advantage of some exciting opportunities to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ through classes, groups and Bible studies. At the beginning of this season, many Bible studies, groups, and healing and recovery ministries are starting new sessions. Also, many ongoing classes are encouraging new folks to join them as the fall sessions start.

You are welcome and encouraged to be part of any of these adult equipping opportunities! Following are some of the best and easiest ways to get plugged in to studies and groups at Northland!

To begin with, a great way to get to know options for connecting through fall groups and classes is to visit the Adult Equipping Ministry Fair that will be in the foyer on the weekend of August 20 through 22.

Then, leaders and members of all kinds of groups and classes (for men, for women, healing and recovery, Bible studies and so on) will be around to meet you in the foyer before and after each service. They will be happy to share information about what they have planned for the fall sessions. They would love to meet you, share information, welcome you to join their communities, and explain about the awesome things God has in store for their groups. is a great way to meet ministry leaders and find out about lots of different groups and classes in a fun and friendly way!

Classes and groups are being added all the time, so this is a great place to explore next steps as you think and pray about being part of groups and classes at Northland.

Northland’s Respond newspaper is another great place to tune in to groups and classes at Northland. Farther back in the newspaper, in the “Ways to Respond” section, is an up-to-date list of ways to respond to God. This section lists opportunities to participate in Bible studies, classes and training, healing and recovery groups, and special interest groups, with a brief description and contact information for each group or ministry.

Additionally, this fall, Northland will offer an exciting,

convenient online opportunity for Bible study, called Disciple Bible. This 12-week study will immerse participants in the Old Testament. Each week group members will read (or listen to) a manageable three to five chapters of the Bible daily in preparation for the 1.25-hour online session. This is a commitment of a half hour of homework per day.

Together as a community, the group members will learn to hear from God, learn through Scripture, and grow as disciples through Bible study. They will explore ways to apply the Bible to their lives as they serve God and others.

The CARE Center Resources

BY MATT SHILES To help treat victims of trauma, several resources are available. Following are details about these treatments.

Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) This model is used to help train caregivers in understanding their own trauma, the trauma of children, and how to effectively care for children from hard places. This includes workshops/ labs and intense training throughout the year. A series of these workshops was facilitated this past spring at our Longwood site. The next monthly workshops/labs will begin September 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Zebra Coalition cultural competence In May, 121Hope hosted a cultural competence training by Heather Wilkie of the Zebra Coalition for 30 Northland staff and community members, a training that had never occurred at a church before. The Zebra Coalition is a network of organizations that provide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youths (LGBT-plus) ages 13 through 24. The coalition assists young people facing homelessness; bullying; physical, sexual and drug abuse; and isolation from their families with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability. This is a growing population in our community, and a population vulnerable to human trafficking. The Zebra Coalition is not a faith-based organization, but we found incredible value in learning about the culture these kids live in and how we can meet them where they are.

Interfaith Opportunities • “Friends Talking Faith” Tuesdays, 6:30 to 7 p.m., 90.7-FM radio.

“The Three Wise Guys” — Rabbi Steven Engel, Rev. Bryan Fulwider and Imam Muhammad Musri — discuss topics from the perspective of the different religions they represent. In August, guests will include a variety of religious leaders sharing their thoughts and ideas regarding the political issues raised during the Republican and Democratic national conventions. Their many guests will include The Honorable Wendell Griffen of Arkansas, a clergyman in the Baptist tradition; Dr. Barry Kurzin, a Buddhist monk and personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama; and other faith leaders. Join us for these important conversations as we look toward the November general election.

First Aid Arts First Aid Arts is exactly what it sounds like — using arts-based interventions to help survivors of trauma begin the process of recovering from such experiences as abuse, violence or natural disaster. The First Aid Arts trainings and tool kit are informed by neurological and psychological research that supports the use of arts-based psychosocial resources to reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Northland facilitates the First Aid Arts program at the Lowell Correctional Institution and the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, as well as on an asneeded basis at Northland’s Longwood site.

What Is Trauma-Informed Care?

Trauma-Informed Care is an organizational treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. TraumaInformed Care also emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety for both consumers and providers, and helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

Working in a trauma-informed system, individuals are able to recognize that no one, including themselves and their coworkers, has immunity to the impacts of behavioral health issues, stress or trauma. A company or workplace that is trauma-informed: 1. Realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery.

2. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff and others involved with the system.

3. Responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices.

4. Seeks to actively resist re-traumatization.

National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) Training NOVA was founded in 1975 and is the oldest national victim assistance organization in the United States. Its mission is to champion dignity and compassion for those harmed by crime and crisis. NOVA’s Crisis Response Team Training instructs individuals on how to provide trauma mitigation and education in the aftermath of a critical incident, large or small.

Northland’s NOVA-trained Crisis Response Team is embedded in our Disaster Response ministry. The team has used its skills in such disasters as those in Oklahoma and Alabama, and Hurricane Sandy. Most recently, the team was mobilized in response to the Orlando Pulse shooting, and team members provided services at the Camping World Stadium along with other providers. The Crisis Response Team is always ready to attend to the needs in the community relating to addressing the effects of crisis trauma.

Attorney General Victim Advocate Practitioner Certification The Florida Crime Prevention Training Institute was established by the Office of the Attorney General to provide comprehensive crime prevention training to law enforcement, school officers and victim advocates. Our 121Hope ministry victim advocates have completed the victim advocate practitioner training to aide in our work with human trafficking survivors.

This training comes in use each time we interface with human trafficking survivors and equips the team not only to appropriately respond to the victims, but also to get a better understanding of the resources available to victims.

PASTOR’S BIO During Dr. Hunter’s tenure, which began in 1985, Northland has grown from 200 faithful souls to a Floridabased congregation of 20,000 that worships worldwide via the web.

Before accepting the pastorate at Northland, he served as a United Methodist minister for 15 years in Indiana. He and his wife, Becky, have been partners in the ministry since their marriage in 1972. Becky is the former president of the Global Pastors Wives Network and is the author of “Being Good to Your Husband On Purpose” (Creation House). The Hunters raised three sons and have seven grandchildren.

Northland is becoming a church of distributed churches, a family of spiritual families. More and more, the larger congregation of Northland is also comprised of smaller, distributed churches – spiritual families that form outside the walls of the building as they follow Jesus together and live out the mission of Jesus in their everyday lives.
