The Gospel — Power for Peacemaking

What’s Current

A MESSAGE FROM KEN SANDE, AUTHOR OF THE PEACEMAKER (Read about pastor, Ken Sande, and his life in ministry at peacemaker.net.)

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:

Colossians 1:6-11 (NIV) “All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit. “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully ....”

Colossians 3:12-15 (NIV) “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

NOTES:

Think About It! In his book The Peacemaker, Ken Sande describes three typical responses to conflict: escape, attack and peacemaking. Which is your typical response to conflict?

Talk About It! Use these questions in your community group this week to get a discussion started.

• How do you decide what things are worth fighting for? • What elements are necessary for true reconciliation, or making peace? Worship focus: Worship Christ today as the Prince of Peace. His peace means wholeness and completeness. He is working to make our lives and relationships complete. He will complete the good work He has begun in us.

• When have you waded in, using some conflict as an opportunity to see God’s redemption at work?
