THE CAST Jesus

Clearing the Way for the Lord

Shepherds

Part of God’s family, uniquely designed to be cast in God’s eternal story.

A heavenly messenger of God. He arrives on earth on several occasions to give important announcements and tell of special events.

A prophet, son of Amoz. Living and speaking on behalf of God approximately 600 years before Christ’s birth, he foretold the arrival of the Messiah.

Despite being a descendent of King David, he lives an ordinary life as a local carpenter. Recently engaged to Mary, he is shocked to learn of her “improbable” pregnancy and God’s desire that he be the earthly father of Jesus.

A group of educated and respected religious leaders from foreign lands. Noting a sign in the sky (and at Herod’s behest), they embark on a journey to meet the baby Jesus.

A young, newly engaged teen. She is still a virgin when she is visited by an angel and told she will be giving birth to the Savior of the world.

A ragtag group of guys who live a simple life — out in the fields protecting sheep and sleeping under the stars — one eye ever open. They are the group God chooses to first hear of the coming of Christ.

God with us. The Messiah, taking human form, entered our world as a baby. He is the Son of God and a son of faithful, earthly parents.

A MESSAGE FROM DR. JOEL C. HUNTER, SENIOR PASTOR

(Read about Pastor Joel at northlandchurch.net/joelhunter.)

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Isaiah

40:3-5 (NASB)

A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; and let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley; then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

WORSHIP FOCUS:

Worship Christ today as the Hope of the world.

THINK ABOUT IT.

Each of us is called to play a part in the coming of Christ to the world. What part can you play today?

NOTES:

You

s You're in the cast.

Tell us about YOUR role in HIS story! Let's get to know one another this holiday season by sharing what God's done in our lives. Go to share.northlandchurch.net.

Not sure where to start? Consider telling us first how you came to be a part of God's family.

BE IN COMMUNITY. Spark conversation in your community this week: Consider making an Advent wreath to use in your home with your family: 1. Gather evergreen branches, or cut out paper leaves from colored paper. 2. Arrange the greenery in a circle on a table. 3. P lace four candles in candleholders on the circle, and place one candle in the center. 4. C hoose a day and time for your family Advent candle lighting. Dinner is a great time.
