GREETINGS

Dear Visitor, Welcome to paradise, also known as Miami Beach. Whether you are visiting us for business or pleasure, we are delighted to have you here. In this issue of Visit Miami Beach, you’ll read all about the city’s chic boutiques, tempting restaurants, sizzling nightclubs and superb beaches. The City of Miami Beach offers myriad sporting options — and some surprising innovations. Lummus Park, for instance, combines postcard-perfect scenery with technological advances. Thanks to an extensive makeover, the beach now offers a high-end gym experience, the first of its kind, with more than 30 workout options and even tutorials linked to a smartphone app. But there’s more to Miami Beach than fun in the sun. Music, dance, theater and museums are among the city’s cultural offerings, along with architectural treasures like the Art Deco

6

hotels you’ve admired in countless TV shows and movies. Given its enthusiasm for culture, it’s not surprising then that Miami Beach hosts the prestigious Art Basel international art fair, which brings thousands of artists, collectors and curators to the Miami Beach Convention Center each year. We’ve taken giant steps to transform this barrier island into a world-renowned playground and a livable community that will sustain generations to come. Reducing electricity consumption in parking garages and other public areas is just one of the infrastructure innovations we are implementing to preserve resources while cutting costs. New transportation options, meanwhile, enable you to bypass traffic and enjoy the ride. Coast along more than eight miles of dedicated bicycle lanes. Board a water taxi for smooth sailing between Miami Beach and Downtown Miami. And leave the driving to us by hopping a free trolley that connects to regional routes and improves mobility for residents and visitors alike. It’s because of such progressive ideas and pioneering programs that the city received the 2018 Complete Streets Community Award for Miami-Dade County at the Safe Streets Summit. We hope that you as well will find our streets inviting as you discover the melting pot of experiences and cultures that come together in Miami Beach. All of us who call Miami Beach home are proud to welcome you to our beautiful city and we can’t wait to welcome you back soon to explore more adventures in paradise. Sincerely,

iami Beach is a paradise for players, a get-out-and-go destination that makes it easy to get your game on. Rent a Jet Ski or ride a high-speed boat and make some waves, dive or snorkel and discover underwater wonders, play a round of golf, take an open-air bus tour or walk back in time on a guided tour of the city’s 1930s-era Art Deco District. No matter what kind of excursion you’re looking for, the city’s must-do deck is stacked with fun-filled activities and attractions. It’s hard to imagine that just a few decades ago, Miami Beach was a run-down retirement community in the eyes of many travelers. Then came Miami Vice and Gianni Versace and a slew

of investors and entrepreneurs, and suddenly, it seemed, no one was at a loss for things to see and do in the new American Riviera. Now tourists from around the world flock to Miami Beach, and the first place they go is — you guessed it — the beach.

A Shore Thing Only it’s not just one beach. The city boasts 15 miles of postcardperfect shores, each with a distinctive flavor. South Beach (SoBe) — the one everybody sees on TV and reads about in magazines— begins at Fifth Street and Ocean Drive, and it’s everything you’ve imagined: beautiful bodies basking on sun-kissed sand and frolicking in crystalclear water as lifeguards keep watch

from candy-colored stations. Stargazers may spot a celebrity or two at South Pointe Park. Film crews tend to frequent this popular beach and its spectacular 360-degree ocean views. Or perhaps you’ll sight a supermodel posing for a photo shoot at Glitter Beach, the South Beach strand more properly known as Lummus Park. For a change of pace, head north to tamer Mid-Beach, from 23rd Street to 63rd Street. A small but scenic stretch of shore is the appropriately named 21st–45th Street Beach. The Miami Beach Boardwalk runs through it and draws local joggers and runners from throughout South Florida. After a calorie-burning workout, you’re more than entitled to throw

Family Fun Miami Beach and the Greater Miami area offers something for every visitor. That’s especially significant if you’re vacationing with the family. You’ll all love the beaches, of course, but there’s so much more to see and do. If your brood includes a budding scientist, head to the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) in Downtown Miami. Einstein Jr. and the rest of your family can spend hours exploring the solar system, the physics of light and the biology of the human body and mind. Learn more about the known universe at the 250-seat full-dome Frost Planetarium. Another must-see is the three-level aquarium with spectacular views of South Florida water habitats. Marvel at hammerhead sharks and devil rays, touch a stingray and explore living coral reefs. Then walk through the open aviary and learn about a variety of rehabilitated birds. To discover more of the world beneath the waves head to the popular Miami Seaquarium in Key Biscayne. Amazing marine mammal shows with dolphins and sea lions delight children of all ages. Enjoy sea life exhibits featuring manatees, sea turtles, rays and more. Interact nose-to-beak with African penguins, enjoy a deep or shallow water

You can even learn about wildlife rescue and marine animal care at the Conservation Outpost. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget! Younger ones will be enthralled with the hands-on Miami Children’s Museum, where they can have fun learning about the world around them as they “shop” in a life-size Publix supermarket, “helm” a replicated Carnival cruise ship or “bulldoze” through a simulated construction site. Miami Children’s Museum is located on Watson Island near Downtown Miami. Also on Watson Island, Jungle Island is another favorite of kids and grown-ups

Visitors can enjoy thrilling shows and learn all about resident critters on behind-the-scenes tours. Although it was closed after Hurricane Irma, Jungle Island is scheduled to re-open in Spring 2018 with new and exhilarating experiences.

Adventures to Remember No matter which beach you choose, you’ll find plenty of aquatic activities to keep you busily entertained. Kayaking,

tubing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, waterskiing and sportfishing offer hours of outdoor fun. With a little instruction you’re ready to rent a Jet Ski at one of several area facilities. Go solo along miles of designated Jet Ski zones or take in the island’s sites on a guided tour. Friends and families may want to opt for a more spacious motorboat or yacht rental, or simply board a tour boat and check out the luminaries pottering about their ultra-posh digs on exclusive Star and Fisher islands. In Miami Beach you can dive deep or fly high. For a different perspective, take to the sky for a bird’s-eye view of the sparkling shore. Strap on a jet pack or try your hand at parasailing or

need is a guidebook or smartphone app and a good pair of walking shoes.

Out and About Although it may not seem like it, bustling South Beach is an eminently walkable neighborhood. Day or night, Lincoln Road is a paradise of promenades. The miles-long pedestrian mall is home to scores of trendy galleries and famously branded boutiques. Buskers and other street performers will tease your appetite for entertainment. Reserve a table at a chic restaurant or sidle up to a sidewalk café for hours of perfect people watching. Pedestrian-friendly as well is South Beach’s small but charming Española Way. Only about two blocks long, this

year, William J. Brown built the first hotel, which was named Brown's Hotel.

Euro-flavored street was beloved by gangster Al Capone, who ran a gambling ring here in the Roaring ‘20s. Today it’s a tranquil cluster of Spanish Colonial–style shops and restaurants just off heavily trafficked Ocean Drive. The handful of boutiques here are stocked with treasures you won’t find elsewhere, from funky chunky bracelets to one-of-a-kind collectibles. Miami Mountain, Ugo Rondinone

26

BY GIANNA NOLTE

The Bass Museum of Art presents contemporary works of art ranging from paintings and sculptures to fashion and architecture. Founded in 1964, it is named after John and Johanna Bass, two of the first private collection donors. Their collection can now be found in one of the first-level galleries. The museum reopened in October 2017 after a $12 million renovation. A complete visual rebrand took place along with structural upgrades, including the addition of four galleries, a museum shop, café and an education facility. Facing Collins Park and the Art Deco District, the entrance of The Bass is marked by one of its permanent collection pieces, Ugo Rondinone’s Miami Mountain. The structure is bursting with bright shades of red, lime green, orange, electric blue and bubblegum pink. Inspired by the “hoodoo” rock formations in the American West, Miami Mountain stands 42 feet tall and was designed to emulate a moment frozen in time. The neon Eternity Now sign (the work of Sylvie Fleury) glowing above the main entrance is another part of the 10-year initiative to add international contemporary art to the museum’s permanent collection. Along with Rondinone and Fleury, the official acquisition for 2017 was Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla’s Petrified Petrol Pump (Pemex II), 2011. The piece captures a moment in a postapocalyptic era of sorts — an eccentric display of a petrol pump fossilized in limestone. Allora and Calzadilla are a U.S.-Cuban collaborative act known for using numerous mediums, including sculpture, photography, performance and sound. For more information, visit thebass.org.

Is there a dish that reminds you of your childhood in Lima? Corvina Mama Ele from our seafood menu. It’s a dish inspired by my grandmother that transports me to simpler times.

CONQUERING THE CULINARY WORLD Juan Chipoco, Chef/Owner CVI.CHE 105 BY VANESSA MOLINA SANTAMARIA

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Juan Chipoco spent countless hours as a kid learning about all the flavorful and aromatic soups and stews his grandmother made. After holding several jobs in the restaurant and hospitality industry, his passion for the restaurant business was ignited. Chipoco moved to the United States more than 25 years ago to follow his dreams — and with all the awards and accolades he’s received since then, it’s clear his is a true success story. Known for its vast selection of innovative ceviches, as well as mouthwatering traditional Peruvian dishes and modern interpretations of that country’s staples, CVI.CHE 105 has gained quite a following. With locations in South Beach, Downtown Miami and Aventura Mall, CVI.CHE 105 was named best ceviche in Miami by Miami New Times, ranked as best Peruvian restaurant by TripAdvisor and selected as one of the best restaurants in Miami by Zagat. The happily married father of twins has quickly risen to the top of

Miami’s culinary scene, yet he remains humble. “I strongly believe that in order to achieve greatness, you must be truly humble in every action or direction you take,” says Chipoco.

What are some of the most memorable moments in your career? One has to be the Ceviche Throwdown at Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill back in 2010, where I had the enormous pleasure of competing against highly skilled celebrity chefs and winning the best ceviche award. Another memorable moment takes me back to the Icon Brickell in 2007, where we catered an event for more than 1,800 people. Staying on top of every detail for such a large event — from the logistics to the cooking — proved to be quite challenging, but everything was perfect.

What makes CVI.CHE 105 stand out from the rest? Although we are focused on our craft and our constant evolution, important concepts such as consistency, determination, excellence and true passion for what we do have proven to be key in our continued success.

Who has been the biggest source of inspiration in your life? Without a doubt, my children.

What’s your favorite dish on the menu? My active lifestyle requires a dish high in protein, which is why Juan Chipoco’s Iron Man has become my personal favorite. It combines tender pieces of filet mignon and select seafood, cooked in a fiery wok with onions, cilantro, mushrooms and tomatoes. Andean potatoes, Peruvian choclo and Paria cheese also accompany it. It’s the perfect option for those into fitness.

Name one hidden gem that visitors should check out. Fratelli Milano in downtown has outstanding Italian cuisine.

What is your favorite local hangout? (Other than your restaurants, of course!) Mandolin Aegean Bistro in Midtown.

Can you share one of the items still on your bucket list? Visiting Machu Picchu with my children so they can connect with the ancestral energy of the Inca culture and their empire. It is part of me and also part of them.

North Beach Noshing

The laid-back northern tip of Miami Beach seems a world away from the glitz and glam of South Beach, but the cuisine here is no less rewarding. Bal Harbour is famed not only for chic boutiques but also for a bevy of great restaurants. You’ll find enticing menus as well in North Beach neighborhoods like Isle of Normandy, La Gorce and Biscayne Point. Here, as in all Miami Beach enclaves, many eateries reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of those who settled here. Spice up your evening with the offerings of Cuban and Brazilian chefs, set sail on a sushi boat or sink your teeth into the perfect steak. Need we remind you that seafood here and everywhere reigns supreme at the dinner table?

Dining by Design Miami Beach is an island of superlative dining options, but it’s by no means isolated. Just across the bay you’ll discover an array of casual and upscale eateries in neighborhoods like Miami’s Design District, south of Wynwood. The burgeoning enclave is an epicenter of fashion, art and architecture, and it’s gaining fame as well for restaurants that take cuisine to an unmatched level. At Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink, for example, award-winning chef Michael Schwartz roasts swordfish and octopus in a wood-burning oven, and his peppery Steak au Poivre is to sigh for. Mandolin Aegean Bistro, meanwhile, transports you to the coast of Turkey and the sunny Greek isles. Begin the journey with an appetizer platter of tangy olives, grilled eggplant and other Mediterranean taste treats. And if Gloria Estefan’s rhythm hasn’t got you yet, it will at the restaurant she and husband Emilio have opened in the Design District. Comfortable and fun, Estefan Kitchen puts innovative twists on traditional Cuban favorites. Estefan’s paella — vegetarian or loaded with shrimp, scallops, lobster and mussels — is really gonna get you. Is your mouth starting to water? Restaurants here put the Mmm… in Miami. Grab a table and treat your taste buds to a culinary vacation.

BUON APPETITO! Cibo Wine Bar South Beach BY JEFFREY DOLLAR LAIGN

As most restaurateurs will tell you, ambience enhances appetite. The 12,000-square-foot Cibo Wine Bar South Beach is a bold, beautiful blend of Old World rustic and New World modern, featuring enticing patios, stunning artwork and authentic southern Italian cooking at a 60-foot open kitchen counter. “Without a doubt, our location in South of Fifth is perfect, and we have become the go-to restaurant for patrons looking for the freshest Italian food available,” says Nick Di Donato, president and CEO of Liberty Entertainment Group. Cibo, by the way, is Italian for “food”; and there’s plenty of it at Di Donato’s eateries — traditional, unpretentious and just plain delicious. Begin your evening with a Sicilian favorite, Arancini (deep-friend rice balls oozing with mozzarella). Then savor the flavors of the sea with linguine, clams, mussels, calamari and tiger shrimp. Or if you’re pining for pizza, sink your teeth into a slice of devilishly delicious Diavola. Sipping at Cibo’s, of course, is an experience in itself; and Di Donato has taken it to new heights. More than 3,500 labels are racked in a soaring, two-story wine room and a wine angel on a harness retrieves your selections. Impeccable service, inspiring surroundings and unpretentious fare offered up with classic flair. That’s what’s waiting for you at Cibo Wine Bar South Beach.

Party Time

Not that long ago, watching Jackie Gleason on a black-and-white TV was a popular way to spend an evening in Miami Beach. Back in the 1970s, there was little reason to visit Wynwood. Then graffiti artists got the notion to brighten up drab walls with giant murals. In 2009, the late Tony Goldman had a vision to create an open-air, pedestrian-friendly art gallery. Soon artists from around the world took notice of the funky Wynwood Walls and flocked here to set up shop. Today Wynwood is a close-knit community and a haven for artists and art lovers alike. Developers have taken previously abandoned warehouses and transformed them into stylish bistros, trendy boutiques and red-hot nightspots. O Cinema, for example, turned a

Like its Miami Beach sister, O Cinema Wynwood features the best of first-run foreign and art films, along with classic and family movies. In another remodeled warehouse, Concrete Beach Brewery serves up an array of classic and signature beers. Sample them at the 18-tap bar in the brewery’s Social Hall. Head brewer Eric Hernandez puts a Miami twist on traditional beer styles to

produce creative, quality craft brews like Havana Lager. It’s brewed in the Vienna style but surprises you with a tropical twist. Stiltsville Pilsner is hopped up with the herb that gives beer its distinctive bitter edge. So is the aptly named Más Hops. A bit sweeter is the exotic Tangerica, brewed from wheat and the juice of tangerines, with zest from the peels. In addition, the brewery creates special beers to go along with special events. Mardi Gras, for example, means Miami Gras, a French-style saison, or pale ale, flavored with juniper berries and orangeblossom honey. It’s a dry yet fruity beer, with notes of pepper, citrus and spice, perfect for celebrating New Orleans — style or simply beating the heat of a South Florida afternoon. Other events on the calendar include Battle of the Bands, American Craft Beer Week, and the Concrete Beach Brewery Anniversary Party. Deck the (Wynwood) Walls with a Walls Imperial Porter! It’s eclectic, artistic Wynwood, after all, that inspires Concrete Beach Brewery’s superlative craft beers and drives the company’s mission: Drink Art and Make Beer. If you want to know more about artful brewing, you can stop by for a free tour. Or sign up at Cycle Party and bike your way to Concrete Beach with a thirsty group of newfound friends.

Not Your Average Schwinn Bike? Yep, but it’s unlike any bike you’ve ever ridden. Cycle Party’s comfortable covered “bikes” are more than 16 feet long and seat up to 15 guests.

A trained company driver, or “pilot,” steers the giant contraption and operates brakes, lights and directional signals. You supply the power with your feet. It’s a pedaling party you’ll long remember and a great way to get to know this fascinating neighborhood. On a Cycle Party pub crawl, you’ll visit some of the area’s sexiest watering holes. Or you can get a real taste of Wynwood on a progressive dining excursion. History lovers can coast back to Wynwood’s inception in 1917 to learn how a largely Puerto Rican barrio reinvented itself as an arts oasis. Or don a Deerstalker — Sherlock Holmes’s hat of choice — and follow the clues that lead you on a scavenger hunt through Miami’s hippest neighborhoods. After all that activity, you must be starving. Luckily, Wynwood’s dining scene is as eclectic as the neighborhood itself. KYU Chef Michael Lewis says, in fact, that he draws from Wynwood’s creative ambience in preparing woodfired, Asian-inspired entrees that keep guests coming back for more. We’ve told you about artisanal beers at Concrete Beach Brewery. Why not surprise your sweet tooth with an artisanal donut — or three. You’ll find them at The Salty Donut, along with uniquely flavored coffees crafted by seasoned baristas. Funky fun. In Wynwood it’s on every corner. Revived and revitalized, Wynwood offers something for everyone. Spend some time here and you’ll have a hard time imagining what the neighborhood looked like just a few decades ago. A can of spray paint goes a long, long way indeed.

Just a block over from Ocean Drive — parallel to the Atlantic Ocean — is Collins Avenue, one of the premier shopping areas on the beach and home to a bounty of designer brands, including Armani Exchange, GUESS and Kenneth Cole. For sleek accessories and cosmetics to pair with stunning fashion selections, stop by UGG, Sephora, Steve Madden, MAC Cosmetics and Sunglass Hut, among other options. The Webster — a luxury, multi-brand boutique for men and women — opened its flagship store in a historical Art Deco building designed

Along with big-name retailers like Express, Anthropologie and adidas Y-3 — a collaboration label between adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto — you’ll also find a range of eclectic specialty stores including OmLuxe Collection (unique bags inspired by the yoga practice and Indian culture, with a portion of proceeds given to the women of India), Taschen Books (deluxe art tomes), Romero Britto (colorful works by the famed painter), CB2 (exquisite home furnishings), Custo Barcelona (women’s fashions) and The Dog Bar (a modern

When it’s time for a break, pick up a gelato at Freddo Helado and check out the street performers, or introduce your palate to one of Lincoln Road’s many top-rated restaurants, where options span the flavors of Italian, Mexican, New American, Mediterranean, Asian, German, Cuban, Argentine, Japanese and Peruvian cuisines. But, when it comes to Lincoln Road, it’s hard to forget Alchemist, a boutique carrying specialty designers. The most unique aspect of this store, however, is its appearance and location. Designed by Rene Gonzalez Architecture, the shop sits in a striking glass box on the fifth level of the 1111 Lincoln Road parking structure, with sweeping views of the Miami skyline.

Located north of 14th Street between Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues, Española Way is known for its beautiful Spanish Colonial architecture that dates back to the early 1920s. Rather than feature a score of world-famous brands, this pedestrian-friendly European style enclave has art galleries, hip bars and unique little shops — like Bia’s Jewelry, where you’ll find eclectic, funky pieces that you probably won’t see anywhere else. A hot destination for club hopping, Washington Avenue is known for its energetic nightlife. Don’t be surprised if you spot a celebrity or two at Dream Nightclub, where Kim Kardashian West, Diddy and Usher have been spotted. Washington Avenue also boasts a score of uncommon shops. Embrace your alter ego with costumes and vintage wear from Beatnix, celebrate the beach bum in you with beach-ready gear at Surf Style and browse an immense selection of bikes, skateboards and paddleboards at Fritz’s Skate Bike & Surf. Sunset Harbour is one of the newest go-to spots in South Beach for fashionistas. Here you’ll find popular boutiques such as Peace Love World, Blush and Eberjey. Next to the boat launch are the Sunset Harbour Shops. With its trendy, checkered design along the building’s façade, it’s hard to miss. The large enclosure is host to numerous restaurants, including A La Folie — a French café and bistro that serves everything from specialty coffees and crepes to Quiche Lorraine and savory sandwiches. Also in the area is Jessie, a popular fashion boutique that prides itself on carrying high-end designers such as Alexis, Rag & Bone and Show Me Your Mumu. Adding greenery to your home can be just as important as other accessories — if not more so — and the tropical setting will make you feel like you’re still on vacation. Miami-based interior designer Maite Granda (maitegranda.com) is passionate about creating luxury spaces using a mix of colors, textures and modern elements that result in visually stunning designs. Whether she’s designing a primary residence or a vacation home for her upscale clientele, there are plants she favors to add a good vibe and spruce up her designs. We sat down with Granda — who received the “10,000 Ideabook Saves” badge from Houzz, with more than 10,000 people adding images of her interior design work to their inspiration boards — to talk about the power of plants.

Houseplants are hot right now! What are some of your personal favorites? Yes! Houseplants have become very fashionable in today’s home. Orchids and ficus are my favorites, but I like most indoor plants. I often use Ficus lyrata (also known as the fiddle-leaf fig) because it blends in nicely with most interiors. It has a tall slender trunk with big lush leaves that create a warm, elegant look. Areca palms and bamboo plants are beautiful, too. What are some health Maite Granda benefits? Most plants convert the carbon dioxide we exhale into fresh oxygen, and they can also remove toxins from the air we breathe. Therefore, indoor houseplants are

effective natural air purifiers. Edible plants offer benefits, too — rosemary improves memory; mint helps with nausea and digestive problems, as well as depression; aloe vera strengthens the immune system, alleviates menstrual problems, reduces arthritis pain and heals wounds. The list goes on. What is the best placement for greenery? Most interior plants do well near a window because there’s good natural light without direct sun exposure. Is there a planter you favor? Self-watering planters by Lechuza. They are stylish, modern and come in many sizes and colors.

THE KEYS TO BEAUTIFUL

Living

Offering luxury waterfront properties, unmatched sophistication and desirable locations, Miami Beach is one of the world’s premier destinations. By Nancy Bernstein

M

iami Beach is an amazing place to visit, but it’s even better to live here. Our beaches, restaurants and nightlife draw tourists from all over the world, but it’s our beautiful homes that really stand out due to their innovative designs that redefine luxury living. Depending on your lifestyle, there are a few different neighborhoods to explore before you decide to settle down in paradise and buy a place of your own.

Fisher Island is a private island located just off the MacArthur Causeway (395) where residents arrive and depart by ferry. It’s one of the most exclusive and luxurious residential developments in Miami Beach. Founded by Carl Fisher, Fisher

Island was owned by the Vanderbilt family until the 1960s, when it was sold for redevelopment. These days, you’ll find condominiums and villas of all sizes on the island, and many of them are oceanfront. Fisher Island residents enjoy a host of amenities, including a beach club, a spa, a nine-hole golf course and a private marina. The former Vanderbilt mansion serves as the island’s main clubhouse. The latest residency option on the island is a 10-story boutique building with 43 luxury units whose prices start at $6.5 million: a highly-coveted option for today’s high-end buyer with multiple homes.

(SoFi) is literally the bottom section of the Miami Beach below Fifth Street. This is a pedestrian-friendly community where residents have the beach, great restaurants and South Pointe Park — one of the nicest parks on Miami Beach — all within walking distance. With all of its attractions and a convenient location, it’s no surprise that SoFi is home to some of the most soughtafter high-rise condominiums in the city, including Apogee, Murano at Portofino, Murano Grande, ICON South Beach and the Continuum dual towers. You can also find renovated Art Deco and midcentury modern gems, along with South Beach’s only townhouses that have private garages. Young families flock to SoFi for South Pointe Elementary School, one

of the top-rated public schools in Miami-Dade County. The area is also home to a host of top restaurants, including the legendary Joe’s Stone Crab, Prime 112 (one of the city’s best steak houses and a favorite hangout for celebrities) and Smith & Wollensky, another top steak house that’s ideal for sunset dining and people watching on the nearby boardwalk. Some new-construction SoFi condos to check out include Three Hundred Collins at 300 Collins Avenue. This modern retreat takes its inspiration from the

timeless serenity of the natural world, featuring wood floors and stone finishes on spacious terraces and balconies that allow residents to soak up the sun. With only 19 residences, Three Hundred Collins condo prices start at $2.3 million. There’s also the new Louver House at

311 Meridian Avenue, which embraces the tropical qualities of the South of Fifth neighborhood and reinterprets them for contemporary living. Louver House features only 12 spacious residences that are accessed by private elevators, all with magnificent interior design, oversized private terraces and lush gardens that extend the living space of every residence to the outdoors. Prices here start at $2.5 million.

South Beach South Beach, otherwise known as the Art Deco District or SoBe, was the first section of Miami Beach to be developed, starting back in the 1910s. These days it’s a thriving center for beautiful beaches, nightlife, shopping and dining, with real estate that runs north from Fifth Street to 22nd Street. As a major destination for tourists from all across the globe, South Beach is packed with condos and historic Art Deco hotels like the Delano and the National. Its brightly painted, iconic lifeguard stands line the beautiful beaches at every block. To get around SoBe, bikes are quite popular and you can rent a Deco Bike from strategically placed stands throughout the area. Be

sure to stop by Lincoln Road, an outdoor mall lined with boutique shops, bars, restaurants and theaters. Real estate options in South Beach consist primarily of condos, ranging from those found in luxury oceanfront buildings such as Faena, The W Residences, Beach House 8, Residences at the Edition and Capri South Beach to smaller, more budget-friendly buildings located just a few blocks off the beach. On the bayside, there are luxury doorman buildings to consider, such as The Floridian and The Waverly.

Mid-Beach The Mid-Beach section of Miami Beach runs from 24th to 63rd Street. It’s best defined by its more laid-back

atmosphere compared to the intensity of South Beach. Mid-Beach features family-owned shops and restaurants on 41st Street, including the legendary The Forge, three amazing children’s parks, a dog park, the JCC (a fitness studio with great classes), Scott Rakow Community Center and North Beach Elementary, an A-rated public school. Enjoy the outdoors by strolling along the ocean boardwalk that runs from 21st to 46th Streets, home to some of the quieter beaches on Miami Beach. Iconic hotels such as the Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and Soho Beach House offer full-service hotel accommodations for tourists, along with superb ground-floor restaurants like Cecconi’s Miami Beach and Scarpettta. And while there, you may find some famous faces among your neighbors. Current Mid-Beach residents include musicians Barry Gibb and Phil Collins and basketball star Chris Bosh, who currently live on prestigious upper North Bay Road in luxurious waterfront homes that back up to beautiful Biscayne Bay. Jennifer Lopez’s 5,000-squarefoot home sold for a record high of $33 million back in 2015, but you can still find Art Deco MiMo (Miami Modern) estates like the one at 6410 N. Bay Road for just under $10 million. The Ritz-Carlton Residences is one of the newest developments redefining Mid-Beach, offering seven acres of gardens, pools, entertainment spaces and a private marina on Surprise Lake. Residences here start at $1.6 million.

66

Real estate in North Beach consists primarily of a continuation of oceanfront and bay front condos on Collins Avenue and Indian Creek Drive. Luxury residential condominiums line the ocean on Collins Avenue and the bayside on Indian Creek Drive and are generally more affordable than condos on South Beach.

Island Living Miami Beach has a series of islands in exclusive gated neighborhoods of primarily waterfront homes; these highly desirable neighborhoods include Hibiscus; Palm; Star; Venetian Islands; Sunset I, II, III & IV; La Gorce and Allison Islands. Further to the north are Normandy and the exclusive enclave of Indian Creek Island.

The Venetian Islands, located between Miami Beach and Downtown Miami, are just minutes away from Lincoln Road’s shopping and movie theater, Publix supermarket and various restaurants just over the bridge on Purdy Avenue. The Venetian Causeway connects six man-made islands — Biscayne Island, San Marco Island, Di Lido Island, San Marino Island, Rivo Alto and Belle Isle Island — and is a mecca for bikers, joggers and inline skaters, who can be seen exercising at all hours of the day.

North Beach Known for its sprawling stretches of sand, neighborhood bars and restaurants, and quiet atmosphere, North Beach runs from 63rd to 87th Streets. North Beach is home to North Shore Park, where residents and tourists

can enjoy a wide range of sports from volleyball to bicycling on the boardwalk, and also includes the recently renovated North Shore Park Bandshell, an outdoor amphitheater that hosts cultural events, concerts and entertainment. Real estate in North Beach consists primarily of a continuation of oceanfront and bay front condos on Collins Avenue and Indian Creek Drive. There are a handful of oceanfront homes along Collins Avenue in the exclusive community of Altos del Mar. Homes here are just steps to the ocean. A four-bedroom home located at 7801 Collins Avenue will list for $4,995,000, as opposed to the bayside where a four-bedroom waterfront home lists for $2,299,000 at 1281 Stillwater Drive.

Surfside Beginning at 87th Street and ending at 96th Street, Surfside offers a quaint beachtown-style setting thanks to its milelong, gorgeous beach, luxury beachfront hotels, distinctive world-class Bal Harbour Shops and culturally diverse restaurants. An abundance of family-friendly activities and events gives Surfside a special charm, whether it’s a casual tasty meal at one of the small bistros, a picnic at North Shore State Recreation Area or the neighborhood’s lovely oceanfront community center. Incorporated in 1935, Surfside boasts many homes built in the Art Deco style; and streets are in alphabetical order named after famous writers and poets, including Abbott, Byron, Carlyle and Dickens.

Now under construction is L’Atelier Miami Beach (6901 Collins Avenue), which is an 18-story condominium with only 25 luxury condo residences. You have your option of purchasing a one-ofa-kind half-floor residence or a full-floor residence. The floor plans are spacious, and all feature multiple large and expansive balconies and terraces. Every residence at L’Atelier has sunrise and sunset views. New-construction prices start at $3 million.

Located on the shores of Surprise Lake in Mid-Beach, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, boasts 111 condominium residences and a limited collection of 15 Piero Lissoni-designed stand-alone Villa Residences. “The tropical setting played a big role in our design approach. One of the things that is really striking about Miami is the light, so the design is very much about optimizing that natural light and connecting to the water and the verdant gardens outside,” says Nicoletta Canesi, vice president, Lissoni Inc. “The goal was to seamlessly connect the inside and the outside experience.” Lissoni’s modern and artistic interior design included neutral fabrics and tones throughout, ranging from a light sand color to white with a few touches of light blue. All walls

are finished in an off-white color plaster like micro cement, and the floor is a light beige. To contrast with these light tones, Lissoni incorporated

Inspired by world travel, the collections on display include African masks, antique majolica plates, Chinese vases and terra-cotta horses, ethnic tables and sculptures, and an

old Native American canoe — a link to the native culture of Florida. With prices ranging from $2 million to over $40 million, each residence features a Lissoni-designed Boffi kitchen, Gaggenau appliances and designer fixtures. Another unique feature will be the on-site private boat dockage and a captained private day yacht for intracoastal and beach access. Many homes will also include private elevator foyers, sprawling terraces, summer kitchens and private plunge pools. The residences feature resortstyle amenities such as a tropically landscaped rooftop pool deck with stunning views of Miami Beach, Downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay; navigable marine helipad; an expansive infinity-edge pool with a waterfall; a cinema-quality private theater and the world’s first residential art studio designed by Lissoni in collaboration with Miami artist Tatiana Blanco. With an ideal location and a timeless, elegant design, the residences offer the ultimate in luxury living for buyers with discerning taste.
