Welcome to the 2020 Northwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show

Jamelle R. Garcia, Executive Director Washington Aviation Association(WAA)

It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the Washington Aviation Association’s 37th Annual Northwest Aviation Conference & Trade Show in Puyallup, WA.

“Fly Safer,” is the theme of this year’s conference. Pilots and aircraft owners can enjoy two days filled with safety and educational seminars, visit the conference exhibitors and enjoy some personal renewal time away from busy schedules. “Aim Higher” is the theme for this year’s NW Aviation Career Forum. This unique event provides a venue for students, mechanics, pilots, industry professionals to network oneon-one with businesses, airlines and colleges.

The big change in 2020 is the Career Forum has been moved from Friday to Saturday. Not only will this shift allow students and others working Monday to Friday the ability to explore all the forum has been offering for the last eight years – they will be able to experience this in the palpable energy and enthusiasm that is the hallmark of the annual Conference!

What exactly is the point of the career forum? Perhaps you know someone who is inspired by flying but not sure how to make that a career? How does one afford it? What are the pros and cons of a military versus college or time building through employment path? What are salary trends? These are just a few of the questions that are answered by volunteering professionals from all sectors of the aviation industry that are eager to share journeys and mentor new pilots.Welcome AeroFlite, NBAA and Lift Academy as 2020 Career Forum Supporters.

Did you know that aviation maintenance is the new hot job in aviation? Overshadowing the pilot shortage, IAs are experiencing lots of lucrative career opportunities. Stop by the 5th Annual Maintenance Competition Saturday, generously coordinated by Andy Dodson from Spokane Community College, to watch teams form eight Northwest colleges compete for an all expenses paid spot to compete at the national competition in Dallas, TX. Thank you Alaska Airlines, maintenance division for your support!

We also are pleased to welcome ACF-50 (Lear Chemical), and Champion Aerospace as Maintenance Sponsors for this year’s event.

Speaking of our Platinum Level Sponsors Alaska Airlines & Horizon Air – once again they have gone beyond by sponsoring lanyards for the entire event and again offering the much anticipated Meet & Greet opportunities in the Career Forum for career pilots.

Thank you for the support of Silver level sponsors: Spencer Aircraft, Aviation Supplies and Academics, Aircraft Spruce, Cirrus Aircraft, Safety in Motion Flight Center, and Pacific Coast Avionics

Thank you Bronze supporters Avemco, King County Airport & Boeing Field, Wings Financial Credit Union, Port of Bremerton, Mesa Airlines, CiES Corp, and Wipaire. We appreciate General Aviation News, JSFirm.com, Seaplane Pilots Association and Trade-A-Plane for continued media support.

Thank you to Spencer Aircraft for once again coordinating a shuttle from Pierce County Airport for fly-in attendees.– Please join me in thanking the sponsors, and speakers for their tireless efforts on our behalf. And don’t forget to visit the exhibitors where additional learning also takes place. I hope you find this year’s Conference welcoming, exciting and inspirational.
