NISSAN

Nissan to unveil the next generation Juke in September

T

he upcoming second-generation Juke was teased by Nissan throughout July and August, before being given a soft reveal across the internet, as a pre-production camouflaged model was given to Autocar for review. The outgoing model has been widely credited as the creator of the crossover segment, so the new model has huge shoes to fill and many loving fans that have their fingers crossed that the Juke retains its quirky nature. Photographed during final testing at the Millbrook testing ground, the new Juke seems to share a similar silhouette to the original Juke and will initially be available with the same 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that can be found in the Micra. The little capacity but highly capable 1.0 litre motor develops 117PS, emitting only 113-118g/ km when paired with the manual gearbox and 111-116g/km with the automatic. What we can say for sure from these preproduction images, is that the new model will

sport new design 19-inch stylish alloy wheels and dual tier headlights. Nissan have also disclosed that it will feature enhanced connectivity and Propilot driver assistance systems. Inside, the new interior features an 8-inch touchscreen, offering new connected services allowing you to interact with the car via an app as well as receiving live traffic and access to google street view. The new Juke is larger than before and shares the same basic set up as fellow NissanRenault alliance models as the upcoming Clio and Capture. Boot space has been increased to 422 litres, while interior space generally has also increased, offering a more spacious environment for all passengers. Although the new Juke is bigger overall than the previous model, Nissan ensure that it has retained to same sporty and agile performance, retaining what helped to push the Juke to over 1 million units sold since 2010. The full reveal will be in early September, with sales opening officially in November.

SKODA

NEW SKODA KAMIQ 2019 RELEASE The new Skoda Kamiq is a car to look out for at the end of this year – it has been designed around everything VW has learnt from their versions of the SUV market including the T-Roc and Tiguan. The Skoda Kamiq is due to be based on the tried and tested MQB platform, with a stylish, spacious and clever body design. Exact specs, prices and PCP deals are not yet confirmed, however according to ‘Autoexpress’ the Kamiq will be expected to ‘shoot straight to the top of the class’ when they tested it in the UK. The Kamiq, pronounced ‘Ka-mick’, this is a rival for the Renault Captur, Volkswagen T-Cross, and the soonto-be-replaced Nissan Juke, competing in the small, supermini-sized SUV market. Onto the drive – they will be launching the Kamiq three engines: a pair of 1.0-litre Petrols (94bph or 113bph) and a 1.6-litre TDI Diesel. The more powerful 148bhp 1.5 TSI hasn’t been homologated yet, but it’ll join the range before the end of 2019. According to the ‘Autoexpress Test Drive’ they said ‘on the road, the Kamiq felt safe and solid no matter what we threw at it. We were driving the more powerful

10

113bhp 1.0-litre, which Skoda expects to be its biggest seller. It accelerates cleanly, and while the control weights – the pedals and gearbox especially – are light, they’re perfectly accurate. Few buyers will feel short changed in this area, regardless’. The Kamiq’s space and practicality is something to be pretty pleased about. The 400-litre boot (1,395 litres with the rear seats folded flat) is pretty standard in class, but rear seat accommodation leaves its rivals trailing. There is enough head and leg room for six-foot adults, even with the front seat set to fit a similarly-sized driver. There has been no official revealing of pricing, spec of fuel efficiency numbers for any Kamiq variant as of yet. With a little bit of market research and approximating we believe the Kamiq may sit around the £17,500 starting price upwards into the £20,000’s. In typical Skoda fashion residual values should be strong, which, we hope, will mean preferential PCP terms. Standard spec structure is likely to be along a similar line of the new Scala. The Scala currently offers a choice of S, SE and SE L. Spec dependant we are expecting to see the common features such as alloys, parking sensors, touch screen, air con and DAB radio to be among the majority of vehicles, with optional extras to enhance the vehicle such as privacy glass, keyless entry, dual-zone climate, larger

touch screen, bigger alloys, LED lighting and leather seats (including heated and massage). Overall, we are expecting good things from the new Skoda Kamiq – with its trusted engines and touch of class interiors we can see a bright future for the SUV once it is released at the end of September.

Approximated Spec figures below based on market averages and product research (Autoexpress).

CIVIC REVIEW - AN INSIGHT INTO THE UK'S FAMILY CAR

CIVIC REVIEW - AN INSIGHT INTO THE UK'S FAMILY CAR

T

he Honda Civic is a trust-worthy, well-know and reliable family car. It has always been noticeable for its bold design along with an extremely practical interior. They may be slightly more expensive to run than cars like a typical Vauxhall Astra but there is no compromise with the build quality or driving experience – not to mention the track day monster Civic Type R. The interior comes with mostly soft rubber, leather, or plastics for the touch elements alongside some harder plastic buttons and dashboard trims. This give it a slightly upmarket feel. All but basic S and SE models come with a glossy seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. Although it may not be the outstanding leader for infotainment systems the

Civic has a more than adequate unit for motoring needs; including DAB radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Sat-Nav (on selected models). The Honda Civic’s boot is pretty generous, too. With all five seats in place you can squeeze in 478 litres of luggage – 108 litres more than an most competitors and easily enough for a bulky baby buggy and some large soft bags. Flip the back seats down (which you can do in a 60:40 two-way split to carry up to two passengers and long luggage at once) and the Honda Civic’s boot grows to 1,267 litres. You can get the Honda Civic with two petrol engines and with either a manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The 1.0-litre petrol will produce approximately 55.4mpg is best suited to 12

You’ll want to consider a 1.6-litre diesel Civic instead if you do lots of long journeys. 0hp Civic will accelerate from 0-62mph in ctable 9.8 seconds but easily outstrips the in the fuel economy stakes. e Honda Civic scored four star in the strict uro NCAP crash tests thanks to its wide of standard safety kit. Even entry-level Civic cars get adaptive cruise control,

lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and a system that’ll automatically stop the car if it senses an obstacle in the road ahead. High-spec EX models are well worth paying a little extra for. They come with heated leather front seats, an upgraded 11-speaker stereo system with DAB digital radio and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. Adjustable lumbar support for the front passenger seat to reduce backache on long drives, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone charging, 17-inch alloy wheels and adaptive suspension (which helps make the Civic as comfortable to drive as possible). Overall, the Honda Civic is an excellent all-round car, whether it be for travelling up and down the country, family holidays, or just pottering around town. If you are currently in the market this would definitely be one to consider.
