ALL-NEW HONDA JAZZ DELIVERS POWERFUL HYBRID PERFORMANCE AND ADVANCED CONNECTIVITY 

READ ONLINE ABOUT THE ALL-NEW HONDA JAZZ

The new Honda Jazz delivers an effortless driving experience with efficient and responsive performance delivered by e:HEV hybrid technology as standard. The new arrival of the Jazz e:HEV plays a key role in Honda’s commitment that 100% of its mainstream European sales will feature electrified powertrains by 2022. The car will be available across Europe in summer 2020. For the first time, the Jazz will be sold exclusively across Europe with an advanced hybrid powertrain. Carrying Honda's new e:HEV badge, the all-new Jazz has been engineered to deliver an exceptional blend of strong performance and impressive efficiency, to compliment its class-leading levels of interior comfort and ultimate usability. The e:HEV system is newly developed for the Jazz and engineered to deliver an enjoyable driving experience. It comprises two compact, powerful electric motors connected to a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery and an innovative fixedgear transmission via an intelligent power control unit, which all work harmoniously together to provide a smooth and direct response.

Clever packaging for unrivalled space

When developing the all-new Jazz, Honda engineers worked closely with the design team to ensure the car retained the class-leading levels of interior space that was the hallmark of previous generations. The luggage capacity (with rear seats up) starts from 298 litres and goes up to an impressive 1203 litres (rear seats down, to the roof). They achieved this through the clever packaging of hybrid drivetrain components into the chassis and within the engine bay. 2

New intuitive connectivity

The all-new Honda Jazz provides seamless in-car connectivity that allows owners to connect to their everyday lives with ease. The simple-to-use LCD touchscreen interface is designed to minimise driver distraction; operation time for the most regularly-used controls is reduced by 58% compared with the previous model, providing a safer and more ergonomic experience.

'Honda SENSING' active safety technology

The all-new Honda Jazz comes complete with an upgraded suite of advanced safety features and driver aids as standard, thanks to a newly developed front wide view camera that enhances the field of vision. Honda‘s Collision Mitigation Braking System has been improved with nighttime operation to detect pedestrians and cyclists, plus it now applies the brakes to avoid a collision when the car cuts across or turns into the path of an oncoming vehicle. For the first time on Jazz, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist System are available as standard. As is Road Departure Mitigation System which assists the driver to not stray from the road by alerting the driver when the system detects that the vehicle may be crossing a detected lane marking or approaching the outer edge of a pavement or oncoming vehicles. Blind Spot Information, complete with Cross Traffic Monitor is standard on Executive grades. Intelligent Speed Limiter recognises traffic speed signs and sets the speed limit. If the traffic sign shows a slower speed compared to the actual vehicle speed, an indicator on the display flashes with an alarm sound and the system gradually decreases the vehicle speed. Passive safety is equally as important to Honda as active safety and to help protect occupants in the event of accident, the all-new Jazz now features ten airbags including the introduction of a new front centre airbag. This innovative centre airbag is integrated into the centre of the driver's seat back and expands from the side in the event of a collision, protecting the occupant’s heads from colliding.

Honda Personal Assistant

Connected services and applications accessed via the advanced touchscreen interface can also be activated using voice commands, through the Honda Personal Assistant. First seen in the Honda e, the intuitive Honda Personal Assistant is a smart artificial intelligence (AI) facility which uses natural, smart instruction-based conversations and contextual understanding to access a range of online services. The unique Honda Personal Assistant is easily activated by saying: “OK Honda”, followed by the question or instruction. An abstract face animation accompanies the humanised response and visually acknowledges interactions.

Skoda reveals new name for first all-electric SUV ‘Enyaq’ Enyaq will be the chosen name of Skoda’s first electric SUV based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB).

T

he name of the new ŠKODA, Enyaq comes from the Irish name ‘Enya’, meaning ‘source of life’. Enya itself is derived from the Irish Gaelic word ‘Eithne’, meaning ‘essence’, ‘spirit’ or ‘principle’. The 'source of life' signifies the start of a new era as the car manufacturer enters into electromobility. As per the other Skoda SUV models, Kodiaq, Karoq and Kamiq, the Enyaq has adopted the 'Q' at the end to create a clear connection to the SUV line-up. The Enyaq will be the Czech brand’s first series-production vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) and the next of the series of more than 10 electric models that will be launched under the Skoda iV sub-brand by the end of 2022. By 2025, Skoda is expected to have allelectric vehicles and models with plug-in hybrid drives to account for 25% of sales. By 2021, the car manufacturer will have invested two billion euros in the development of electric models and a holistic, interconnected ecosystem for modern and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

Skoda tops out YouGov 2020 Recommended car rankings It has been revealed that Skoda sits at the top of the list of car brands consumers would recommend the most in the UK, according to

Y

ouGov’s 2020 Recommend rankings showed the brands with the highest percentage of their own customers recommending them to friends or colleagues. Skoda took first place with 83%, closely followed by Volvo at 82% and then Lexus, Honda and Audi in joint third place, both with 81%. German and South Korean car manufacturers were also equally well-represented, with each country occupying two spots: Audi ranks fifth (also with around 81%) and Mercedez Benz comes in ninth with 78%; while Kia takes sixth with 80% and Hyundai earns eighth place (79%). Julian Tooke, global director of product integration at YouGov, said: “Although Skoda comes first out of all of the brands in the Car Brands sector, all ranked brands had high recommended rates so even small increases or decreases could change who comes first next year.”

MAZDA

MAZDA3 WINS ‘SMALL HATCH OF THE YEAR’ IN UK CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS The Mazda3 has claimed the Small Hatch of the Year title in the 2020 UK Car of the Year Awards and is on the nine car shortlist for the overall UK Car of the Year title, which will be named later this month. An independent set of awards explicitly aimed at naming the best new cars on the market in the United Kingdom, the UK Car of the Year (UKCOTY) Awards are judged by 27 of Britain’s leading automotive journalists with road tests carried out on British roads. In addition to this award, the Mazda3 is also shortlisted in the final 10 contenders for the 2020 World Car of the Year Award. Commenting on the Mazda3’s success, UKCOTY judge Alisdair Suttie, said: “on looks alone, the Mazda3 is a class apart from its peers, yet the appeal is much more than skin deep. Superb to drive, comfortable and made to exacting standards, the Mazda3 also comes with clever engine technology that makes it both fun and frugal to drive. All of this made it an easy choice as UKCOTY’s Small Hatch of the Year”. Fellow judge Matt Robinson also expressed his praises to the car adding: “the new Mazda3 has unquestionably become one of the class leaders in this sector. An interior that is second-tonone and impeccable refinement are the hallmarks of the fourth-generation Mazda3, but then it seals the deal with the incredibly clever Skyactiv-X engine, which combines diesel-like economy with petrol-esque manners.” While Paul Hudson added: “looks fantastic, drives even better” and David Motton, commented that the Mazda3 is “stylish inside and out, drives

well and is packed with standard equipment”. The 27-model Mazda3 range features hatchback and saloon body styles with a choice of two mild-hybrid equipped petrol engines. The Mazda3 was the first car to be powered by Mazda’s Skyactiv-X engine. This 2.0-litre four-cylinder 180ps engine features the highest compression ratio of any production petrol engine in the world and is also the first production petrol engine to exploit the benefits of compression ignition. Providing drivers with the free-revving performance of a petrol engine, its lean burn capabilities combined with the Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid system ensure outstanding fuel economy and low emissions. Mazda UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson said: “the Mazda3 is already winning over customers with its quality, style and driver engagement, so recognition in the UKCOTY Awards is fantastic. In a marketplace that has seen the launch of lots of great cars across many sectors, it’s a real testament to the Mazda3 that it’s taken a category win in a segment as competitive as the family hatchback class. I’m also delighted that the Mazda3 is a contender for the overall UK Car of the Year title, where I’m sure the innovative Skyactiv-X engine will help the Mazda3 stand out with the judges. Another example of Mazda’s convention defying powertrain innovation, it offers our customers a truly unique blend of fuel economy, low emissions and performance from a petrol engine.”

Peugeot Partner Wins Again at the Great British Fleet Awards

READ ONLINE ABOUT PEUGEOT'S PARTNER WINNING MORE AWARDS

P

eugeot Partner has won the ‘Compact High Cube Van’ award in the Fleet World Great British Fleet Awards for the second successive year. Partner has been racking up the awards since before its UK launch last year. This latest award is the third for Partner so far in 2020. Few competitors can compete with the vast array of safety and driver assistance systems on offer from Partner.” During its first year on the market, PEUGEOT Partner sales reached over 14,300 in the UK. On average, that represents over 39 new Partners sold every day in 2019. With four trim options to choose from - S, Grip, Professional and Asphalt, the most popular specification in 2019 was Professional, with comprehensive specification including: front fog lights, colour touchscreen with Apple Car Play™ and Android Auto, Multi-Flex modular folding passenger bench seat with pivoting writing table and loadthrough bulkhead, heated electric folding door mirrors, one touch electric windows, an alarm, cruise control with variable speed limiter, rear parking sensors, and air conditioning. “This is a hotly contested sector of the van market, but for the second year running Partner takes the Great British Fleet Award from Van Fleet World, thanks to a winning combination of load carrying ability, driver safety and operating costs,” said Van Fleet World editor Dan Gilkes. 10

Peugeot teases new 508 Sport Engineered First glimpses of the new Peugeot 508 sport are emerging and it is said to be in rival with the BMW 330e and Volkswagen Passat GTE in the fast-growing hybrid saloon market. Following on from the 508 Sport Engineered concept which was unveiled at last year’s Geneva show, this new model will get a slightly toned down version of that car’s 400bhp hybrid powertrain and four-wheel-drive system. The twin electric motor setup should result in a greater electric-only range over the singlemotor 508 GT Hybrid, which can manage around 33 miles in EV mode. Visually, the performance saloon will get a number of exterior details to set it apart, including a redesign of the front bumper, carbon-fibre wing mirrors, quarter panel-mounted canards, larger side skirts and unique alloy wheels. There are also decals and luminous brake calipers to emphasise its focus on performance. Back in 2019 Peugeot revealed the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered concept. The powerful plug-in hybrid show car was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show and previews a performance-based 508 PHEV that will go into

production by the end of 2020. Peugeot’s latest concept is powered by a 197bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged PureTech petrol engine that is supported by two electric motors - a 107bhp unit powering the front axle and an additional 201bhp motor for the rear axle. The total combined power output is over 500bhp but as the system’s power sources can’t deliver their peak outputs simultaneously, a realworld maximum of around 400bhp is nearer the mark. As such, Peugeot claims a 0-62mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. Inside, the Peugeot 508 concept receives a set of bucket seats, a new dashboard, fresh door cards and an updated headliner all of which are trimmed in leather and Alcantara. Other features include a touch-sensitive gear selector, a carbon-fibre sports steering wheel, a 10-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The 508 Sport Engineered concept’s electric motors are powered by an 11.8kWh battery, which provides a claimed zero-emission range of 31 miles. It is also said that when running in hybrid mode, the system will also return emissions figures of 49g/km of CO2 under the WLTP regime.

GWR KIA

Imagine by Kia will launch as Tesla-fighting halo EV

Kia’s first devoted all-electric vehicle will be launched as a Tesla-style ‘halo’ model – showcasing the brand’s future with 310 miles of range and 350kW rapid-charge technology. The all-new model will utilise Kia’s recent tieup with electric expert Rimac to offer “incredible” performance, which will later filter down to more mainstream models in the Korean maker’s line-up The original Imagine by Kia idea was shown at last year’s Geneva Motor Show and takes the form of a jacked-up C-segment crossover with a sharp, fastback-style rear end. When questioned on whether the firm’s first dedicated EV might take its styling cues from the concept. The designer will use the production-ready Imagine by Kia to set the bar for what’s to come over the next five years. The company aims to cover all segments, from city car to SUV, with a fully-electric offering by 2025 – as outlined in its recent Plan S business strategy.

“It is important to make a statement,” Lahoz explained to us. “Every manufacturer needs a halo car that sets the pace for whatever is coming,” he told us. “We are going to launch 11 [electric cars] by 2025, and this is the first stepping stone to what the new Kia is going to offer to it’s consumers.” We’ll likely see a production version of the Imagine by Kia concept early in 2021, with sales starting later that year. Kia’s bosses suggested that by 2023-24, the company could be making a clear profit on its electric cars, which should finally bring price parity between its petrol and electric cars.
