I

ntroducing the revised and updated 2021MY CR-V Hybrid. Available now, the midsized SUV is now solely available as a hybrid; built around Honda’s innovative i-MMD system for unparalleled levels of efficiency and refinement. A number of revisions and styling tweaks, inside and out, refresh and align the CR-V more clearly with Honda’s other e:TECHNOLOGY products. Priced from £30,180, all models of the 2021 CR-V gain blue-ringed H badges and e:HEV nomenclature to highlight their electrified credentials. Other revisions include a new silver finish applied to key visual elements on the centre console, doors cards and dashboard accents. Other updates include a new 18” alloy wheel design for all grades and privacy glass from SE models upwards. The range topping EX grade CR-V also gains wireless smartphone charging for improved seamless connectivity. Mechanically, the CR-V retains Honda's responsive and highly efficient advanced hybrid powertrain technology, which is built around two electric motors, an Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, and an innovative fixed-gear transmission. On the WLTP combined cycle, this fuelefficient hybrid system produces CO2 emissions of just 151g/km and fuel economy of 42.2mpg on

The CR-V is such an iconic part of Honda’s range and history it is only fitting that the revised 2020 model is ready to take on a changing and challenging market place, equipped with the latest technologies and equipment to make consumer’s lives that little bit easier.

front-wheel drive models, and 161g/km and 39.2mpg for all-wheel drive models. Further under skin revisions include tweaks to the suspension that has been retuned for more linear handling responses and to provide increased low longitudinal rigidity for optimised ride compliance. The Dual pinion variableratio electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering has been refined for improved low-speed manoeuvrability. Ensuring safety for all occupants, the CR-V’s platform design incorporates Honda’s exclusive next-generation ACE™ (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body structure design technology. This employs a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly. In line with Honda’s ‘Safety for Everyone’ philosophy, the CR-V's class-leading suite of passive and active safety systems continue to be available as standard for all variants. The Honda Sensing package is among the most comprehensive suites of active safety and driver-assistive technologies in the class, combining radar and camera information to assist the driver. Rebecca Stead, Head of Automobile at Honda UK, commented: “The CR-V is such an iconic part of Honda’s range and history it is only fitting that the revised 2020 model is ready to take on a changing and challenging market place, equipped with the latest technologies and equipment to make consumer’s lives that little bit easier.” 2

MAZDA

MAZDA MX-30 CROWNED FAVOURITE ELECTRIC CAR IN THE 2021 DRIVINGELECTRIC AWARDS

The all-new Mazda MX-30 has been named Favourite Electric Car in the 2021 DrivingElectric. com Awards. With the title decided by votes from the readers of the specialist electric and hybrid vehicle review site, the recognition comes ahead of the car’s arrival in UK next March. The Mazda MX-30, Mazda’s first electric production car, has been a highly anticipated arrival since its introduction last year. It’s a stylish and versatile crossover EV with an AC synchronous electric motor and a 35.5kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a range of 124miles. It comes with AC charging up to 6.6kW and DC rapid charging designed to meet 125A Combo Charging standards. Having clearly made an impression on the readers of DrivingElectric.com, the MX-30’s styling reflects a unique expression of Kodo design that emphasises the cars beauty as a solid mass, while the freestyle doors and framed glasshouse hint at the open spaciousness of the cabin. The front doors open forward to an angle of 82 degrees, while the rear doors open backwards to an angle of 80 degrees to reveal the stylish and driver focused interior. The MX-30’s distinctive, stylish and sustainable cabin features high-quality materials and a driver focused interior. The lower console incorporates a 7-inch colour touch-screen air conditioning control panel, and in a nod to Mazda’s founding as the Toyo Kogyo Cork Company in 1920, the Mazda MX-30 features cork lined centre console trays and inner side door handles. Harvested from the bark of trees

Mazda’s compact SUV was the clear winner in our poll to find the readers’ favourite among the new electric cars revealed this year. The Japanese brand has taken a slightly different direction to rivals, focusing on stylish design, an engaging driving experience and sustainable interior materials rather than the biggest battery for the longest range possible.

without felling, the use of cork and door trim materials that incorporate fibres from recycled plastic bottles, are perfectly suited to Mazda’s first pure electric production car. Benefiting passengers and drivers alike, the sense of space is enhanced with a floating centre console that sits independently from the dashboard, while the use of environmentally-friendly materials has been carefully matched to meticulous quality and finish. The full UK MX-30 range will arrive in UK dealerships in April 2021. Available across three generously equipped model grades – SE-L Lux, Sport Lux and GT Sport Tech, standard equipment on all UK MX-30s includes LED headlights with daytime running lights, reversing camera, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Intelligent Speed Assist, navigation and head-up display. Each MX-30 comes as standard with a Type 2 AC charging cable and a socket for 50kW rapid charging, which can in just 36 minutes deliver up to 80 per cent battery charge. Commenting on the MX-30’s award, DrivingElectric.com Editor, Richard Ingram, said: “Mazda’s compact SUV was the clear winner in our poll to find the readers’ favourite among the new electric cars revealed this year. The Japanese brand has taken a slightly different direction to rivals, focusing on stylish design, an engaging driving experience and sustainable interior materials rather than the biggest battery for the longest range possible. This approach clearly resonates with all those who voted for the MX-30, as does its relatively affordable starting price of just over £25,000”. 4

GWR KIA

All-New Sorento Range Completed with a Plug-In Hybrid Model Following the arrival of the self-charging hybrid and diesel versions of the all-new Sorento earlier in the year, Kia Motors is pleased to announce prices for the new Plug-in Hybrid variants of its flagship SUV. Available across the Sorento’s entire trio of trim levels, the grade ‘2’ kicks off at £44,995, while the flagship ‘4’ edition is priced at £53,095. Nestling in between is the generously specified ‘3’ variant, which has a price tag of £48,895. All three versions are available to pre-order now from Kia dealers, with the first examples set to reach showrooms early in the New Year. The Plug-in Hybrid is the second electrified drivetrain in the Sorento line-up and sits alongside the low-emissions Sorento Hybrid. The latest addition to the range blends a powerful 1.6-litre T-GDi Turbocharged Direct injection petrol engine with a high-capacity battery pack and high output electric motor, allowing the driver to complete an average daily commute to work purely on allelectric, zero emissions power. And the low CO2 emissions of the all-new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid makes it attractive for business users, thanks to its super low company car Benefit-in-Kind taxation rates. While many plug-in hybrid vehicles result in compromise, the fourth generation Sorento was designed from the beginning to accommodate electrified powertrains and deliver spacious accommodation for up to seven occupants. The larger body and all-new platform ensure that the latest iteration of the Sorento is one of the most spacious, practical and versatile electrified models

on the market today. The combination of a high-power output electric motor, high capacity lithium-ion polymer battery pack and a punchy 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine results in the most powerful Sorento SUV ever. Power is sent to all four wheels via a newly designed six-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox allows the full power of the engine and electric motor to be harnessed and transferred in parallel, with a minimal loss in energy. The result is highly responsive acceleration, and the lowest CO2 emissions of any model in the Sorento line-up. The Sotento will deliver an equivalent allelectric range (EAER) of up to 57 kilometres from a single charge of its 13.8 kWh battery pack, according to Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. In urban environments it is capable of travelling up to 70 kilometres on a single charge (EAER city) before its turbocharged petrol engine starts up. Drivers are therefore able to complete many journeys, such as their daily commute, on zero-emissions electric power alone. The Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid has started production at Kia’s Hwasung manufacturing facility in Korea. Like all Kia models, the Sorento PHEV is covered by Kia’s 7-year/100,000 mile warranty. The warranty also covers the car’s electric motor
