Kia Niro Family Takes Top Spots at Business Motoring Awards

T

he ever-green Kia Niro family has taken two top spots at the Business Motoring Awards 2021. Popular with both consumers and businesses alike, the Kia e-Niro has been crowned Best Company Car, with the Niro named Best Hybrid. The Business Motoring Awards celebrate the businesses and cars that best serve the fleet and SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) markets, and is judged by an independent jury of experts. In the ‘Best Company Car’ category, the e-Niro was crowned overall winner, with a choice of two battery variants – 64kWh or 39kWh – and up to 282 miles on a single charge, the e-Niro caters for various fleet motoring needs. The e-Niro boasts a high level of specification across the range and offers positive tax benefits and low running costs for business car drivers. With a strong start to 2021, the e-Niro topped the UK EV sales charts for the first two months of the year, with some 75 per cent going to fleets in February alone. Kia extended the model range last month with the introduction of a new e-Niro ‘2’ Long Range, offering the full 282-mile range. Deliveries of the new model start in the summer, and the car is now available to order from £32,445 (after applying the £2,500 government Plug-in Car Grant). Chris Wright, Managing Editor at Business Motoring, said: “With the combination of tax benefits and long range, the e-Niro is a real game changer for businesses looking to electrify their fleets. Equipment levels are good and it offers a smooth performance, but range really is key for fleet and this car delivers.” Coming top in the ‘Best Hybrid’ award the pioneering Niro hybrid has allowed businesses to take their first steps into operating greener fleets. With hassle-free modern technology the Niro is easy to drive and offers reassurance to fleet managers with Kia’s industry-leading seven-year warranty. Commenting on the two wins, John Hargreaves, General Manager of Fleet and Remarketing at Kia UK Ltd, said: “As fleets start to open up to the benefits of electrification, the Niro line-up should be top of the list for any business considering going green. These awards highlight that there is no need to compromise when it comes to eco-cars.” 4

HONDA

ALL-NEW HONDA HR-V - FULL DETAILS REVEALED

T

he all-new HR-V e:HEV was premiered to Europe via the Honda UK Facebook live stream on Thursday 22nd April. Powered by Honda's advanced two-motor hybrid powertrain technology, the new HR-V delivers a blend of efficiency and responsive performance. The sub-compact SUV joins Honda's e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) model line-up for the first time and represents one of the final steps in the brand's commitment to electrifying all its European mainstream models by 2022.

centre tank layout and clever packaging of hybrid components. The platform configuration also allows Honda to retain the exceptionally versatile rear Magic Seat set-up, that offers both fold-flat or flip-up seat flexibility, depending on load space required.

Efficient and responsive powertrain

Honda's proven e:HEV hybrid technology delivers a smooth and enjoyable driving experience, with responsive performance and impressive fuel efficiency. It comprises two compact, powerful electric motors connected to a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, with peak power output from the propulsion motor of 96 kW (131 PS) and maximum torque of 253Nm at 4,500 rpm. The e:HEV set-up includes three interchangeable drive modes, automatically selected for the prevailing driving requirements. For ultimate efficiency, the HR-V pulls off in electric mode, seamlessly changing to hybrid mode when the engine is under high-torque demand, with the petrol engine used when driving at higher, more constant speeds. The driving dynamics are enhanced through the various performance modes – Sport, Normal and Econ, while the additional drive mode B can be selected through the gear shifter for stronger regenerative braking and a more EV-like experience. The level of energy regeneration and the strength of the deceleration effect can be adjusted to suit the driver's preference by using Deceleration Selector behind the steering wheel, to provide a variety of driving experiences.

Coupe-inspired exterior with premium SUV styling

With its forward-oriented character lines and smooth surfaces the next-generation HR-V e:HEV embodies the brand's simple, clean, modern design philosophy already seen in recent new Honda models. Defined by the same keydesign concepts of function and beauty, the compact coupe-inspired shape is familiar yet exciting in appearance, with a playful character and confident SUV stance. Its sleek silhouette is achieved by increasing road clearance by 10 mm and reducing the roof height by 20 mm compared to the previous model. Increasing the size of the wheels to 18 inches, which come as standard on the all-new HR-V, and reducing the front overhang further reinforce the robust SUV appeal, and provides the aesthetic solidity that modern customers desire.

Interior design and class-leading spaciousness

Inside the new HR-V, every design element is dedicated to achieving a sense of generous spaciousness and airiness that connects occupants to the outside world, with levels of comfort and practicality unrivalled in the subcompact SUV segment. Contemporary fabrics and textured materials create a solid, premium feel, with the quality of soft-touch materials.

Enhanced safety

The all-new HR-V is equipped with Honda SENSING™, for the first time, and features a comprehensive range of class-leading advanced safety technologies and driver aids. Honda SENSING™ receives an upgrade for the all-new HR-V including the application of a new wider, higher-definition monocular front camera and highspeed image processing chips that improves upon the previous camera and radar sensor combination. It also includes, improved night-time operation of the Pedestrian Collision Mitigation Steering System and the Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS), which now detects oncoming vehicles crossing the path of the car, including cyclists and motorcycles, and applies the brakes.

Platform and packaging

Although overall vehicle dimensions are similar to the previous model, the new HR-V offers greater leg room and shoulder space, for an enhanced feeling of spaciousness and comfort. In addition to the 35 mm increase in rear leg room, there is an additional two-degree recline compared to the previous generation HR-V, enabled by Honda's 6

ŠKODA

Škoda Enyaq iV awarded Red Dot for outstanding product design

T

he Enyaq iV made a strong impression at its Red Dot premiere, winning the prestigious Red Dot for outstanding product design. The electric SUV won over the international jury of experts with its expressive, powerful design language. The ENYAQ iV thus seamlessly continues the Czech car manufacturer’s success story with the coveted award; ŠKODA AUTO has won 16 Red Dot Awards to date. The Enyaq iV’s bold design philosophy is expressed in balanced proportions, sculptural lines and its distinctive grille. For its first electric SUV, the manufacturer also offers the optional Crystal Face, which consists of 131 LEDs that illuminate the radiator grille, creating a fascinating front. The Crystal Face also combines with the animated Coming/Leaving Home function to

produce a unique effect. The indicators with running light function at the rear of the electric SUV round off its captivating appearance. The Enyaq iV also sets new standards inside, scoring points for its extremely spacious interior. The room it offers matches the Kodiaq, despite the electric vehicle being shorter than the compact Octavia. Design Selections, which reflect tastefully furnished living environments, replace the traditional equipment lines. ‘Loft’, for example, is inspired by modern family apartments, ‘Lodge’ is characterised by its particularly sustainable materials, and ‘Lounge’ combines sophistication with exclusivity. In terms of connectivity, the SUV model offers a 13-inch infotainment display and a head-up display including augmented reality, as well as remote-controlled parking via the MyŠkoda app. Offering more than 520 kilometres in the WLTP cycle, Enyaq iV drivers benefit from a range suitable for everyday use without local exhaust emissions. With the Red Dot award for the Enyaq iV, Škoda has now received the coveted red seal of quality for product design for the 16th time. The Czech car manufacturer also won the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design’ 2019 in the category ‘Brands’ for its successful brand communication. 8
