NEW HONDA CIVIC: DYNAMIC, POWERFUL, ECONOMIC AND EFFICIENT.
fuel economy an equally impressive 4.7l/100km. This exceptional efficiency is combined with a maximum power output of 135kW/ 184PS and 315Nm maximum torque, ensuring the all new Civic is a compelling driver’s car within the C-segment. Complimenting the exceptional power output is the chassis’ design. The Civic e:HEV has been developed with particular focus on steering response and feedback, heightening the driver’s sense of connection with the car. Improved stability in a straight line and over uneven road surfaces has been achieved thanks to a 35mm longer wheelbase and an 18mm wider rear track compared to the car’s predecessor. Cornering stability and overall input response has been further improved with increased body rigidity and the application of low friction ball joints and revised front dampers; combining to enhance the dynamic feel. To enhance driving pleasure and response a new control logic, ‘winding control’, ensures that the internal combustion engine’s operation is maintained during cornering on twisting roads. This enables the car to deliver instant acceleration, providing a truly dynamic sensation when accelerating. On the highway, the additional torque and electric drive provides powerful overtaking acceleration when at high speed but with reduced engine revving noise, for relaxed longdistance travel. “This is the latest generation of our industryleading e:HEV technology, which itself is the culmination of over 20 years experience of designing, building and refining hybrid drive systems,” said Tomoyuki Yamagami, Large Project Leader for the all-new Civic e:HEV. “By carefully assessing the broad range of use-cases and operational environments, we have been able to take a ‘whole vehicle’ approach, making it a fun, highly compelling and engaging driver’s hybrid.” The all-new Civic arrives in Europe from Autumn 2022. T
he all-new Honda Civic has been engineered to ensure that its e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) powertrain, steering and suspension deliver the engaging levels of performance, dynamic response and feedback that have always been central to the Civic’s appeal. The result is a car that blends a rewarding driving experience with highly competitive efficiency and emissions. Available later in 2022, the 11th generation Civic is the final mainstream Honda model to be electrified, following the CR-V, Honda e, Jazz, Jazz Crosstar, and HR-V. The car will feature the most advanced iteration of the brand’s award-winning e:HEV full-hybrid powertrain. This combines a power-dense lithium-ion battery and two compact, powerful electric motors with a newly-developed 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which achieves industry-best equalling 41% thermal efficiency and features a direct injection system optimised for faster and more efficient combustion and greater torque output. The two powerful electric motors work together to provide the primary drive force for the all-new Civic. The engine is controlled by a new, compact Power Control unit which now sits under the bonnet with the rest of the powertrain. Sitting under the rear seats is the latest version of our Intelligent Power Unit and whilst smaller and lighter, it benefits from an increased energy density. This system delivers a feeling of instant torque and powerful acceleration whilst still offering outstanding efficiency. The advanced powertrain shifts seamlessly between EV, hybrid and engine drive with no input from the driver. Four drive modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and a new Individual mode – can be selected by the driver to tailor the vehicle’s response in the area of powertrain, steering and display. The result of these technological advancements is a WLTP ‘Combined’ CO2 emission figure of just 108g/km (WLTP), with 2

MAZDA
2023 CX-60 ENTERS PRODUCTION, STARTING A NEW ERA FOR MAZDA
W
ith the launch of the first-ever CX-60, Mazda entered a new era in its history. The SUV, built from the ground up, became the first modern-era mainstream rear-wheel-drive model (RWD) of the brand, and it is now on the assembly lines. On 18 April, production of the CX-60 kicked off at Mazda’s Hofu Plant No. 2 in the Yamaguchi Prefecture. The first shipment of examples for the European market is planned to leave Japan this month. A special ceremony was held to mark the start of production and it was attended by approximately 100 people involved in the production process. Mazda’s president and CEO, Akira Marumoto, was also at the plant, joining employees of the factory, local suppliers and officials, and others that joined online. The automaker describes the CX-60 as “the most important model it has introduced for over a decade” and its new flagship model. One might argue that the MX-5 and BT-50 are also RWD vehicles, but these are niche products that are not selling in big numbers. The Japanese brand also says the CX-60 represents “everything that the company has built into its DNS over the last 100 years.”
In many ways, the CX-60 is indeed a new chapter for Mazda. It is the company’s first-ever production plug-in hybrid combining a 2.5-litre inline-four engine with a 134 bhp (100 kilowatts) and 184 pound-feet (250 Newton-metres) electric motor. The total system output of the hybrid powertrain is rated at 323 bhp (241 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm). Mazda promises a WLTPcertified fuel consumption of just 1.5 litres per 100 kilometres, but that’s obviously true only when the 17.8-kWh battery is full. The CX-60 is based on a rear-wheel-drive platform colloquially referred to as the Large Architecture, the all-wheel-drive crossover measures 4,740 millimetres (186.6 inches) from bumper to bumper and 2,870 millimetres (113 inches) in wheelbase. Boasting 570 litres (20.1 cubic feet) of cargo capacity, the five-seat utility vehicle is available with the Skyactiv-G 2.5 or its plug-in sibling, the e-Skyactiv PHEV that adds a 129-kW electric motor. Further up the spectrum, customers will be treated to a mild-hybrid turbo diesel in the guise of the Skyactiv-D 3.3 and the mild-hybrid version that goes by the name of e-Skyactiv D. All powerplants are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission developed and manufactured by Mazda. Later on, the e-Skyactiv X is due to join the line-up with a displacement of 3.0 litres, mild hybridisation, as well as spark compression ignition technology. 4 4

SKODA
Škoda ENYAQ iV's value for money proves unbeatable at Top Gear Electric Car Awards The ENYAQ iV – ŠKODA’s first purpose-built electric car – saw off stiff competition to be crowned the Best Value Electric Car by a panel of experts. The Top Gear judging panel praised the Czech-built SUV for its practicality, size and refinement and highlighted the ENYAQ iV’s long range and high-quality finish. With Top Gear going on speak highly of the ENYAQ: The ENYAQ is electric, but still wants to follow the classic Skoda principles of value for money and practicality. To that end, it’s longer and larger than the ID.4 with over 100 litres more boot space when all the seats are folded flat. It’s also cheaper, with ENYAQ prices starting at £34,850 compared to £36,550 for the ID.4.
The ENYAQ won Top Gear’s ‘best value electric car’ award for being very good value for money. If you can stretch to the £40,000 mark, the mid-range 80 with its bigger battery, 329mile claimed range and standard 19-inch wheels is probably the pick of the bunch. All ENYAQ iVs are practical, hardy and still a little bit stylish inside. Plus, you still get the handy umbrella in the door and the neat little ice scraper under the fuel filler cap that Skoda prides itself on. The powertrain may be new, but the Skoda philosophy is still going strong. Commenting on the award, Top Gear Editor Jack Rix, said: “The SKODA ENYAQ is the practical, value choice for a family EV. This is the one that’ll shed dirt easily, wear battle scars lightly, cost you the least to own and run. If you can, upgrade to the 77kWh battery. That aside, this is the complete family package.” Launched last year, the ENYAQ iV leads the brand’s bold electrification strategy and has proved a huge success with buyers. The in-demand SUV will be joined later this year by a new ENYAQ Coupé iV vRS variant – the brand’s first fully electric vRS model. Launched in June 2021, the ENYAQ iV has already amassed an impressive number of automotive titles. These include Scottish Car of the Year, What Car? Best Electric Large SUV, Parkers Car of the Year, and Electrifying.com Family Car of the Year.

The all-new Niro EV is powered by a long-range 64.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and a 201 bhp (150 kW) electric motor. Torque is rated at 255 Nm, and the car is capable of accelerating from 0-to-62 mph in just 7.8 seconds. Kia engineers are targeting an electric driving range of 287 miles on the WLTP combined cycle (pending homologation). Recharging from 10 to 80% takes as little as 45 minutes which is up to nine minutes quicker than the outgoing model. In the winter months, when temperatures are typically low, the system in the Niro EV uses navigation-based conditioning to pre-heat the battery when a charge point is selected as a destination, which helps shorten charge times and optimise battery performance. The Niro Hybrid features Kia’s Smartstream 1.6-litre GDi (gasoline direct injection) engine paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (6DCT). This is combined with a 32 kW (43 bhp) permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, giving the powertrain a combined maximum power output of 139 bhp. The Niro Hybrid also features a new intelligent ‘Green Zone’ Drive Mode, which automatically switches to electric power based on location guidance from the navigation system, driver patterns, or manual selection by the driver. For example, using the touchscreen drivers can designate built-up areas, roads close to schools and hospitals, or beauty spots as Green Zones, and the vehicle then automatically switches to electric-only driving to reduce exhaust emissions to zero in those environments (depending on battery state of charge). Like the Niro Hybrid, the Plug-in Hybrid is powered by the same Smartstream 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine and 6DCT. It’s paired with a larger 62 kW (83 bhp) electric motor, resulting in a combined power output of 180 bhp Engineers are targeting an electric-only driving range of up to 40 miles (WLTP, pending homologation) – more than enough for a driver to complete the average daily commute in the UK. The Niro Plug-in Hybrid also offers the Green Zone Drive Mode, cutting out exhaust emissions in particular urban scenarios or those specially designated by the driver. Order your new Niro with our Corporate team now and we will place it at the front of the queue when Kia starts to accept Fleet orders from 1st June 2022.
