THE ALL-NEW HONDA CIVIC E:HEV HAS ACHIEVED A TOP FIVE-STAR RATING IN THE LATEST EURO NCAP TESTS.

The all-new Honda Civic e:HEV has been awarded the maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. In line with Honda's mission to eliminate road fatalities involving any of its items by 2050, the 11th generation Civic includes several improved and upgraded technologies to provide one of the highest levels of passenger and pedestrian safety in its class.

Honda has developed a number of body structural braces to enhance the Civic's overall passive safety in order to meet Euro NCAP crash impact safety standards for Adult Occupant Protection. In addition to front door stiffeners and rear wheel arch frames that improve side impact performance, this vehicle includes a full-width brace that connects the floor and resin bulkhead in order to limit deformation in the event of a head on or offset frontal collision.

All trim levels of the new Civic include 11 airbags as standard, including knee airbags for both drivers and passengers to minimise injury during frontal collisions and side airbags for both front and rear seat passengers to minimise injury during side impacts. A front centre airbag is included for the first time to prevent collisions between the driver and front passenger during a side impact.

All occupants of the all-new Civic may benefit from this level of protection. The car achieved a good grade in the Child Occupant Protection category thanks to the integrated ISOFIX mounting points, which comply with the latest European i-Size standards.

The newly designed front bumper beam safety plates on the 11th generation Civic are meant to absorb impact energy, reducing leg fractures and knee ligament damage for pedestrians in the event of a collision. The pop-up hood on the other hand, is lined with an embossed membrane structure beneath its outer surface. This hidden component has highly efficient absorption properties for energy should a pedestrian's head strike the outer surface, thus reducing the risk of serious injury.

Honda has developed a new suite of driverassistance systems dubbed SENSING.

The all-new Civic's passive safety features are enhanced by an Honda SENSING™ suite of active safety and driver assist technologies. Sonar sensors that utilise sound waves to detect non-metallic objects such as glass and walls are included. Previously, millimetre wave radar was used to detect these objects, but this technology is now replaced by sonar sensors that detect them far more accurately and reliably.

The new Civic is equipped with a 100-degree view camera, which improves the car’s ability to detect road lines, verges, motorcycles, and cyclists. In addition, a new high-speed processing chip improves the detection, performance, and control of the system, allowing it to detect objects earlier and more accurately, including pedestrians in light and dark environments.

An improved Forward Collision Warning System is included in the expansive SENSING offering from Honda, which alerts the driver if vehicles in front are detected and issues visual, audible, and tactile alerts if the driver is approaching too quickly. The Collision Mitigation Braking System is activated if the driver does not respond, applying light brake pressure to help reduce the risk or severity of a frontal collision. If the system anticipates a collision, it will now apply forceful braking.

Euro NCAP recently gave the Honda Civic, CR-V, and Jazz the maximum five-star safety rating.

MAZDA CX-60: WHAT THE PRESS SAY

The all-new Mazda CX-60, being Mazda’s flagship SUV and first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), is finally here and ready to show you how Mazda’s master craftspeople, designers and engineers have distilled 100 years of Mazda DNA to create a fantastic experience for driver and passengers alike.

The reviews are in from the national motoring press - here’s what they have to say about it.

MSN wrote that “the boldly styled new Mazda CX-60 is a class act.” The Sunday Times Driving agrees, stating that “the CX-60 is worthy of flagship status and showcases how Mazda is on top of its game regarding design and interior quality.”

Many reviewers recognised Mazda’s success with the CX-60’s beautifully designed interior that is calm, spacious, and focused around the driver. “One of the most appealing aspects of the Mazda CX-60 is its size, in particular its cabin, which is roomier than the CX-5’s,” writes AutoTrader. “The first impression is that the quality of the materials used throughout is very good, crystallising the

MSN also took note how special the interior feels: “Not only is the CX-60 PHEV well equipped, it’s superbly put together and the quality of the materials used inside the cabin is excellent."

The CX-60 is no exception to Mazda's renowned Jinba Ittai immersive driving experience, which is present in all of its vehicles. NISSAN ARIYA, X-TRAIL, QASHQAI

AND JUKE HYBRID ALL ACHIEVED FIVE-STAR EURO

NCAP RATINGS.

Euro NCAP recently published the scores for Nissan's most recent electrified line-up additions, the Ariya pure electric vehicle and the X-Trail equipped with e-POWER, both of which received five stars. With the addition of the Hybrid and e-POWER versions, Nissan's entire electric vehicle and electrified crossover lineups now have five-star Euro NCAP ratings.

Adult Occupant protection rating

The Ariya and the X-Trail scored highly in the adult occupant protection category, with 86% and 91%, respectively. The two vehicles are constructed with ultra-high-strength steel in key areas to improve rigidity while absorbing and reducing impact forces to preserve passenger safety. The Ariya and the new X-Trail both have a central airbag to reduce the likelihood of driver-front seat passenger head collisions in a side impact, resulting in excellent lateral impact scores of 14.9 and 16, respectively.

Child Occupant rating

The X-Trail and Ariya both received near identical scores when it came to child occupant protection, with 89% and 90%, respectively. The X-Trail received a remarkable score in the crash-test assessment for child occupants based on six and 10-year-old children, obtaining 23 out of a possible 24 points. The Ariya also received a maximum score of 22 out of 24 points. Both vehicles obtained a maximum of 12 points for the installation of Child Restraint Systems (CRSs).

Vulnerable road users’ rating

There are several active safety aids in the new X-Trail that help to identify and alert drivers to pedestrians or other people on the road. The Ariya

achieves 74% in the same assessment. If the car anticipates an impact with a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist, Intelligent Emergency Braking alerts the driver and applies the brakes. Likewise, Moving Object Detection warns the driver of an unseen object near the vehicle.

Safety assist

Euro NCAP recognises that preventing accidents is preferable, but recognises that technology that helps drivers avoid collisions receives points.

The new X-Trail and the Ariya both received top marks in this category thanks to Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies. AEB is one of a wide range of intelligent technologies offered, which detects when the car in front is braking and then brakes the vehicle autonomously.

The Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention on both models detects when a vehicle in another lane has not been spotted by the driver and directs the vehicle back into lane to avoid danger.

The identical scores achieved by the X-Trail and Ariya in the Safety Assist category show Nissan's commitment to making advanced safety technology available across all of its models. Furthermore, the identical ratings on the other tests demonstrate that point.

The Qashqai and X-Trail both earned high scores in our last round of testing, and the X-Trail's strong performance echoes that result. The Qashqai and X-Trail are both based on the Alliance CMF-C architecture.

Euro NCAP has confirmed that the Juke Hybrid and Qashqai with e-POWER powertrains are still rated the same as their conventionally powered counterparts, providing drivers with the same level of protection and support.

ŠKODA values safety above all else.

Š

KODA has once again expanded its state-of-the-art crash lab at the Polygon Úhelnice Test Centre near Mladá Boleslav to guarantee the optimal conditions for testing. In addition to crash tests, 50 years of crash testing in what is now the Czech Republic has been recorded; the first crash test was conducted on a ŠKODA 100 L in May 1972, and subsequent tests were created by specialist staff.

ŠKODA vehicles currently offer a wide range of safety features:

Modern assistance systems for active safety

All of the most recent SKODA vehicles include numerous safety features. All models currently available for order in EU markets come equipped with Lane Assist, Front Assist, and anticipatory pedestrian and cyclist protection.

Comprehensive safety equipment for all model series

For every current SKODA model series, additional cutting-edge support technologies, some of which are optional, are available. They had previously been saved for higher vehicle classes until a few years ago. One of these is Travel Assist, whose scope varies depending on the model. Travel Assist always comes with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); in some models, an anticipatory form is available. In order to react quickly to speed limits or turns, as required, this employs data from the navigation system and photos from the windscreen camera. The Adaptive Lane Assist feature of Travel Assist also recognises all lane markers and roadworks.

Advanced light technology for optimum visibility at all times

All current ŠKODA models can be equipped with LED headlights that are bright, responsive and at the same time energy-efficient. In some variants, LED technology is also used in the rear lights. For the KAROQ, KODIAQ, OCTAVIA and ENYAQ iV,

full LED matrix headlights are either available as an option or come as standard, depending on the trim level.

Passive safety with up to ten airbags and ISOFIX and top-tether anchorage points

Every SKODA vehicle is equipped with at least six airbags in EU nations. Two head airbags, which also cover the side windows of the first and second rows of seats, a driver and front passenger airbag, a front side airbag, and all of these airbags are included as standard equipment. The outside rear seats can additionally have two side airbags as an option. With an additional central airbag between the front seats that, in the case of an accident, stops the front occupants from colliding with one another.

Modern body construction: Torsionally rigid and energy-absorbing ŠKODA AUTO tries to guarantee that the body of the vehicle has a high level of torsional stiffness and can absorb a significant amount of energy throughout the whole vehicle development process. In order to absorb as much energy as possible in the event of an impact, this includes employing deformation zones. The goal is to maintain the passenger compartment's stability during an accident to maximise occupant safety.

Special protection for the battery in electric vehicles

Electric cars like the SKODA ENYAQ iV have highvoltage batteries that are properly shielded against electrical overload and damage. The modules themselves are protected by a sturdy, waterproof housing that can withstand even severe impacts, while the battery is built into the floor. Engineers at SKODA devote close attention to avoiding overloading the energy storage system. The risk of the battery becoming electrically or thermally overcharged is minimised thanks to sophisticated safety technology with protective relays and numerous sensors.

MUD, SNOW AND SAND: KIA EQUIPS SPORTAGE ‘TERRAIN

MODE’ TRIO FOR ALL-ROAD USE

Three unique Sportage models have been developed by Kia UK, each of which draws inspiration from the "Terrain Mode" technology that comes standard on all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid vehicles.

The one-off Sportage "Mud Mode," "Snow Mode," and "Sand Mode" each demonstrate how the Sportage has the flexibility to fit into a variety of active lifestyles throughout the year.

‘Snow Mode’ for the winter

The "Snow Mode" Sportage is perfect for drivers who prefer spending time outside in the winter in the mountains because it is outfitted for colder climates.

By turning on "Snow Mode," the hybrid powertrain is optimised to keep moving forward in snowy, low-grip conditions. It restricts engine torque output while distributing it equally as feasible to all four wheels. To maximise traction, the traction control system (TCS) gently distributes small amounts of braking pressure to the wheels. In the meantime, the transmission makes shorter shifts while maintaining low engine rpm to avoid wheel slide.

This model has side steps for easy access, a ski and snowboard carrier, and steel crossbars on the roof. Despite passengers entering and exiting with boots covered in snow and slush, owners may more easily maintain the cabin clean thanks to all-weather mats and a trunk liner. A boot tidy bag offers a safe location to store wet apparel or ski and snowboard gear.

This specific vehicle also has winter tyres and an inside winter kit that includes a variety of supplies in case of unexpected snowfall. A windup torch, snowshoe grips, an ice scraper, traction mats, additional de-icer, and screenwash are some of them.

‘Mud Mode’

The Sportage's "Mud Mode" offers more traction and control for drivers navigating muddy paths and fields, but it's not for individuals who want to be known as unadventurous stick-inthe-muds. It's the perfect answer for those who

enjoy outdoor activities in the British countryside, for rural drivers, or for people who visit county fairs and festivals that are held in soggy fields.

Maintaining momentum in the mud is made easier by turning on "Mud Mode." In order to accomplish this, the engine torque is transmitted more smoothly throughout the AWD system, the wheels are operated based on a slightly delayed shift pattern, and more braking force is applied via the TCS.

The Sportage's "Mud Mode" trim is compatible with Kia's professional bike carrier, steel crossbars, and side stairs to make loading and unloading a mountain bike easier. It has all-around mudflaps and all-weather mats for the interior, just like the "Snow Mode" car, to protect the vehicle from mud. Additionally, it has a bumper flap that covers the flat boot lip and provides owners with a casual, easily cleaned seat in the back of the car—or a barrier against muddy pawprints. If you're carrying muddy outdoor gear or clothing, a longer boot liner means more of the interior will stay weatherproof.

‘Sand Mode’

Sand is a concern since it accumulates everywhere, especially in cars. But at least the Sportage's "Sand Mode" can navigate the sand with ease. This version makes it easier for drivers to navigate sandy roads, beaches, and even the desert if they so choose.

By coordinating increased levels of engine torque production with delayed up-shifts, "Sand Mode" helps reduce the possibility that the Sportage may become stuck in sand. Additionally, it distributes torque as evenly as possible across the AWD system, and when necessary, the TCS also supplies stronger braking power.

Although owners in the UK are unlikely to attempt desert dunes in their vehicle, the Sportage's "Sand Mode" is equipped for more typical beach experiences and watersports. Steel crossbars and a roof rack for a surfboard or bodyboard are accessible via side stairs. A trunk organiser is perfect for segregating wet, sandy beach gear from other goods in the boot, while allweather mats and a trunk liner assist prevent sand from becoming embedded in the carpets. The "Sand Mode" Sportage has red bonnet and "razor" side decals for increased visual impact, while owners can alternatively select white or black decals.

Auto Express MG5 EV review

| MG5 Demo now available at Chiswick MG

Electric cars are sometimes criticised for being out of reach for most people. Buyers looking for practicality and value may be discouraged from switching to a new EV by the price of top-spec versions of other electric, which is creeping closer to eye-watering £40,000, and elegant city runabouts like the Fiat 500 and MINI Electric, which are priced at approximately £30,000.

Enter the MG5 electric vehicle. It challenges the newest models in the rapidly expanding electric car market with a more practical approach thanks to its useful estate body style, strong feature list, and starting price of about £31,000. Late in 2022, styling updates and better on-board technology were launched to make the 5 EV even more alluring. Where many competitors cannot compete on price and do not come close to the interior space that the MG5 EV offers, along with the more affordable running cost.

The MG5 had a 52.5kWh battery at launch, with a single 154bhp motor driving the front wheels and a range of 214 miles advertised. When using a 50kW on-board charger, it only takes 50 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 80%, however using a 7kW home charger to top it off takes about 8.5 hours.

The 52.5kWh battery model is no longer available from MG. An improved MG5 Long Range model with a larger 61.1kWh battery is available instead. Although the new model's 0-80% recharge time naturally increases to 61 minutes when using a 50kW charger, it still

offers a greater range of up to 250 miles per charge. However, the MG5 is now also compatible with 100kW charging, so if you have access to a charge point that is outfitted appropriately, timeframes might decrease to about 40 minutes.

MG has also added an extra treat. With its MG Pilot driving assistance package, which includes Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assist, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

For the MG5, the SE and Trophy trim levels are offered. While the latter adds luxuries like heated seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and a six-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, the former comes with enough technology for the majority, including manual air conditioning, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a DAB radio, and Bluetooth.

With 154bhp and 280Nm of torque, the frontwheel-drive MG5 is able to dispatch the 0-62mph benchmark in 7.3 seconds, but probably more relevant to buyers in terms of real-world driving will be the sprightly 0-30mph time of 3.2 seconds, the MG5 can definitely hold its own if you need to get off the line quickly.

The MG5 EV demo car now at Chiswick MG

The latest MG5 EV sports and updated sleek modern exterior, bring the design of the MG5 EV into the modern era with distinctive yet subtle looks, that allow the MG5 EV to stand out form the average estate car. However, you are now able to experience the MG5 EV in person at Chiswick MG with the demo car now available to test drive. Which you can book online or contact one of our sales representatives at Chiswick MG.
