Evolution of the Civic Typ
1997 Honda Civic Type R
With an all-time high of 8,200 rpm and 185PS, the 1997 Honda Civic Type R was a monster. But it was efficient too, with 22.8mpg and a massive 45-litre fuel tank. Powerful and practical — no wonder it’s one of the most popular cars in the world.
2001 Honda Civic Type R
Manufactured in the UK and known to petrolheads far and wide as “the EP3 model”, the 2001 Honda Civic Type R solidified the Type R name in the UK – and long may it reign. The first of the Type-R family to use the now legendary Type R K20-series engines, which were also used in the stunning Honda-powered Ariel Atom. The EP3 set the benchmark for handling and performance at a price that the competitors simply couldn’t match. No wonder it coined the advertising slogan ‘Bye bye, GTI’.
2007 Honda Civic Type R
The fourth Civic Type R stuck to the series’ strengths with fantastic handling. The updated K20 engine produced 198 bhp and was mated to an updated six-speed gearbox. But the hot hatch had a much more modern look – sharper, fiercer. And with later models coming with a standard LSD and the famous Type R Championship White paint, its place in Type R history was set.
2015 Honda Civic Type R
The 2015 Type R is a world record-breaking beast – and also the first Type R with both a turbo-charged engine and five doors. The production-ready concept car broke the world record for ‘fastest lap time in a front-wheel drive car’ around the Nürburgring race track, beating even the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 supercar. Let that sink in for second. A £30,000 Honda hot hatch beat a £147,330 Lamborghini supercar around the Nürburgring. 2

NeuV also functions as a thoughtful and helpful artificial intelligence assistant utilising an ‘emotion engine’, which learns from the driver by detecting the emotions behind their judgments. It can then apply what it has learnt from the driver’s past decisions to make new choices and recommendations.

EURO NCAP Twenty years on ntroduced in February 1997 in the face of fierce motor industry opposition, Ncap testing exposed hidden dangers in top-selling family cars, forcing a fundamental rethink in the way vehicles were designed to prevent injuries and save lives. Twenty years on, 9 out of 10 cars sold on the European market hold a Euro NCAP rating. To commemorate two long decades of Euro Ncap crash tests, Thatcham research undertook a new study comparing one of the first cars the safety programme tested back in 1997, the Rover 100, with the 2017 Honda Jazz. To replicate a head on collision, both cars were propelled into a deformable aluminium barrier at 40mph, the results were absolutely shocking. Thatcham reported “The Rover 100 sustained such serious damage that it would had left its driver and passengers trapped inside with life-threatening injuries”. As for the Jazz? “Probably bruising”. In other words all passengers may have sustained minor injuries but would’ve walked away from the crash. “The Honda is a very good performer, especially for a small car,” says Matthew Avery, Director of Research at Thatcham. “It took just 100 milliseconds for the Honda to save its passengers’ lives by doing what it was built to do.” The number of car occupant deaths and injuries has decreased by 63% since Euro NCAP was introduced in 1997. Its advice: only buy cars with a five-star Euro NCAP rating, such as the Honda Jazz – or another car in the Honda range, for that matter, including the CR-V, HR-V, Civic and Civic Tourer!

HONDA AND HITACHI to start an electric motor company
2017 is fixing to be a big year for Honda collaborations with plans announced for a joint venture with Hitachi to start building electric motors for vehicles.
The Companies have only signed a memorandum of understanding thus far, but the plan is to commit to the project in March, with the new company being established in July. Honda say this will also lead to manufacturing and sales facilities being launched in both the US and china. This latest collaboration is Honda’s bid to get serious about achieving the goal of having twothirds of its vehicles powered by electricity by 2030. This isn’t the only clean fuel collaboration Honda have participated in to date, three years ago, Honda paired up with GM to produce their fuel-cell technology and as a result the Clarity fuel sell was born. The 5 seater ultra-efficient hydrogen powered car has a range of more than 366 miles.

HONDA NSX named Road & Track performance car of the year FIND OUT MORE HERE The legend that is the Honda NSX has been named Road & tracks 2017 performance car of the year, besting eight of the world’s finest sports cars with its charismatic and potent mix if performance, style and emotion. In their feature, Road and Track wrote, “For the first time in a hybrid automobile of any price or capability, technology has been placed firmly in the service of emotional involvement rather than in place of it.” The magazine goes on to say, “Everything about the car – from the way in which the brake-by-wire pedal lengthens its travel when the brakes are hot to the manner in which the mid-mounted V6 permits itself a bit of the ol’ barbaric yawp when it’s winding out in fourth gear – is intended to enhance the driver’s involvement.” Now in its fifth year, Road & Track’s Performance Car of the Year award is chosen based on testing that takes place over the course of four days, two of which are dedicated to the back roads of Kentucky and Tennessee, and two of which are spent on track at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Honda NSX competed against eight other cars: Audi R8 V10 Plus, BMW M4 GTS, Corvette Grand Sport, Jaguar F-Type SVR, Lotus Evora 400, Mercedes-AMG C63 S, Nissan GT-R NISMO and Porsche 911 Turbo S. launch:
2017 CIVIC VIP LAU
Saturday 18th saw our exclusive VIP launch event for the brand new 2017 Honda Civic which offered a sneak peek at the new model from the perspective of a Honda UK Civic guru. This wasn’t only the first time the customers would see it but the first time our sales executives and sales managers had seen it too as Honda had done a top job keeping it under wraps. Attendees were given an introduction to the new car from the guru himself as he went through some of the Civic’s lineage and the updates that the new model benefits from. The car we had on show was a Crystal Black Pearl Civic Prestige 182ps which promises a top speed of 137mph and a 0-62 of just over 8 seconds. News that Honda Sensing and radar technology would come as standard was surprising and welcomed news to hear as the features in question such as blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control come at a premium and are usually reserved for higher grade cars. The guests were treated to canapés and drinks as they were given the chance to check the car out for themselves, tearing it limb from limb and putting its features through their paces. For those of you that missed out on the VIP launch event and want to check out the new model then come down to the showroom where we have our demo ready for test drives and in the meantime have a look at Honda’s Real View Test drive online and enter into a virtual test drive in the new Civic.
