step towards Honda’s vision of the full commercialisation of this technology.’ The HyFIVE project aims to promote the awareness and adoption of fuel cell vehicle technology and infrastructure across Europe. Type The 2017 Type R is one of 12 cars fighting for your vote to be crowned with the What Car? Reader award for 2017. The new car will be released just two years after the current model was released. Honda hope that the current model will become somewhat of a collector’s item after its limited production, whilst the new model will rival the hottest hatchbacks on the road such as the Focus RS. Expected to be pushing out around 350 ponies from the 2.0L engine while the Focus only offers 345bhp. The new Type R will be British built alongside the regular Civic in Swindon where it’ll be exported to other markets including North America, the first
generation Type-R to do so, a strong indication as to how special the car is expected to be. Philip Crossman, managing director of Honda UK, commented: “The next generation Civic Type R will be the fastest and most extreme version of the Civic to wear the famed red badge in Honda’s history. Kicking off the year with a win for this car at the most prestigious automotive award ceremony would be a fantastic achievement. We are incredibly keen to win this award and are asking all Honda fans, customers and lovers of the Type R to get voting!”

honda WITH EMOTIONS? Honda’s 2017 Consumer Electronics Show NeuV concept is a boxy electric commuter, with self-driving capabilities and even its own emotions. The vehicle is set to star at January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and the manufacturer have currently only released one teaser image. It is very clear from the image that the NeuV is a radical concept far from previewing any upcoming production models. The vehicle is aimed at the commuting market with a short wheelbase for easy manoeuvrability and a tall roof for comfort. Other features include a large translucent canopy, and the doors – marked out by the angular shards of silver metal – run from wheel to wheel, opening the pod right up. Finishing the vehicle off are flared wheel arches with large angular black and silver wheels. Honda has confirmed this concept will be 100% electric and include autonomous abilities. Although, the most impressive piece of technology is the on-board artificial intelligence software called the emotion engine. The software will enable machines to artificially generate their own emotions, and Honda says it’ll add new depth to how drivers and passengers interact with cars. It may even be able to detect human emotions and respond to them, but this awaits Honda’s confirmation. This concept will form part of the ‘Cooperative Mobility System’ – the manufacturer’s running theme during CES. Alongside the NeuV, Honda will showcase other futuristic technologies including how to use technology to reduce traffic congestion and new methods of in-car connectivity.
