Norton Way Mazda celebrate Mazda’s Digital Service Record birthday with customer N O R T O N WAY M A Z D A • I S S U E 1 3 • N O V 2 0 1 5
Mazda made an important customer service milestone with the tenth anniversary of the introduction of its ground-breaking Digital Service Record (DSR) system recently. The first manufacturer to offer this kind of paperless service record system in the UK, Mazda’s convention-defying approach set a trend that has seen the majority of the industry follow suit over the last decade. Norton Way Mazda is celebrating with local customer Terry Smith after being identified by Mazda UK as one of the first customers to benefit from Digital Service Records (DSR), when he bought his Mazda MX-5 from the Norton Way dealership nearly 10 years ago. As one of the first ‘paperless’ vehicles, boasting no servicing booklet, this was a novelty for the industry. Today, he is still driving the same Mazda MX-5 that has now been serviced 11 times by Norton Way Mazda. Mr Smith is still benefiting from the ease and convenience of all his records being stored digitally on the DSR system. Mr Smith was excited to be one of the early adopters of this technology, commenting; “When I bought my Mazda MX-5 back in May 2006, I never expected to be one of the first customers to be hitting this milestone along with Mazda,” Smith explains. “The digital service record is great, I don’t have to worry about finding my service book 4

and I know the value of my car will be protected by having a robust record that dealers and new buyers can review.” Why is it so effective? • Ensuring that lost or falsified service books are a thing of the past, DSR has revolutionised how the service record of every Mazda is kept. With all records on a secure central server, the car’s entire maintenance history including mileage, roadside assistance and warranty information is available on demand at any authorised Mazda service centre in Europe. • DSR helps guard against mileage manipulation because dealers and repairers log odometer readings at each visit throughout the life of the car. • The system also helps boost residual values by ensuring every pre-owned Mazda comes with official and credible evidence that it’s been maintained and repaired within the official network to Mazda’s high standards. • You can access your DSR information on the MyMazda App as well as review your service history, automatically receive service reminders, request roadside assistance, check and edit your vehicle details.
According to ICM research conducted in the UK, a complete maintenance record can increase a car’s resale value by up to 26 per cent, while one in three used car buyers would not consider a vehicle with an incomplete service history. With more than nine million services documented across Europe, Mazda’s Digital Service Record has played a major role in delivering great aftersales service to Mazda customers for the last decade and you can benefit from this at out Norton Way Mazda dealership. Pictured are some of the members of staff that have dealt with Terry Smith since purchasing his MX-5. Will Horner (Left of Picture), joined Norton Way in 2003 as a Trainee Service Advisor, he has now progressed to Service Manager of the dealership. Bob Cantwell (Centre of Picture) has 22 years’ of service experience leading to his role as Senior Service Advisor/ Warranty Administrator. Richard Surbey (Right of Picture) is now in his 13th Year with Norton Way and handled Terry’s original purchase. Norton Way Mazda would like to thank Terry Smith for his continued support of the business and choosing the dealership to build up his fantastic DSR record.

1st Generation: MX-5 NA (1989- 98) The MK1 model was the generation of an icon and it all began with an idea. Back in 1979, American Journalist Bob had the idea of a lightweight, twoseater roadster and was finally produced in 1989 after surviving sceptics. Its world premiere was at the Chicago Auto Show in February 1989 and received an overwhelmingly positive reaction. The original MX-5 was focused on reducing weight, weighing just 955 KG it was a truly lightweight sports car. The model featured a frontengine, rear wheel- drive which lead to exceptional driving dynamics. The model was launched in the UK in 1990 and became an instant success, producing 115ps and 0- 62mph in 8.8 seconds.
2nd Generation: MX-5 NB (1998- 2005) Eight years after the original model was launched, a new model was produced keeping to the original design concept of a lightweight roadster. The second generation had more power and was more aerodynamic, it benefited from additional levels of specification and was only 40kg more despite being larger. Although many parts of the interior and body were different, the most notable change were the headlamps: the first generations retractable headlamps no longer passed pedestrian safety tests and were replaced by fixed ones. This model was the most popular two- seat sports car of its era.

3rd Generation: MX-5 NC (2005- 2015) This model was launched at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, it was lower to the ground and more athletic than any of the previous models. Differences included new larger 17” alloy wheels and Mazda’s gram strategy meant the MK3 model was only 10KG heavy than its predecessor, this was due to Mazda reviewing every gram of weight in order to make the vehicle has light as possible. The 1.6 engine was replaced by a new 2.0- litre 160ps engine with an all- new 6 speed gearbox. 2006 saw Mazda introduce the first- ever power retractable hardtop that retracted in just 12 seconds, thanks to its insightful design the roof takes up little boot space.
4th Generation: MX-5 ND (2015+) Going back to its roots, the all- new MX-5 embodies everything that is iconic for the car and more. The car has outstanding agility, driving dynamics, rear wheel drive and the latest in- car technology. For the first the MX-5 will feature Mazda’s award- winning SKYACTIV Technology, ensuring you can enjoy the exhilaration of those twists and turns without compromising your fuel economy. You can be a part of the MX-5’s history too with Norton Way Mazda. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT WHAT OFFERS WE HAVE AVAILABLE ON THE MX-5 FOR YOU TODAY
