On renewal and thereafter, the rate for petrol and diesel models with a list price less than £40,000 will then attract a flat rate of £140 a year. Cars registered before 1st April 2017 will qualify for current VED rates, even after the new VED bands come into force. MAZDA CX-5 BEST LARGE SUV FOR UNDER £25K Mazda’s Skyactiv efficiency technology has given the CX-5 some of the lowest CO2 emissions and highest fuel economy figures in the class, beating those of rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. However, the CX-5 also has the space to rival them, because its interior is large and the boot a generous size. It handles exceptionally well for a large SUV, too, while the amount of standard equipment you get is plentiful considering the car’s relatively low price. What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford commented that, “the Mazda CX-5 retains its crown because what you get here for your hardearned cash is impressive. We’re not just talking
head of the debut of the all-new Mazda CX-5 later this year, the current Mazda CX-5 has once again demonstrated its enduring appeal with both buyers and the media by taking top honours in What Car’s Best Buy for less than £25,000 Large SUV category. Large SUVs such as the Mazda CX-5 are normally associated with high driving positions and off-road ability, not high MPG and low CO2. Mazda’s intention with the CX-5 was to change all that.

about the generous standard equipment though, there’s space and practicality, too. With a decentsized boot and useful 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, the CX-5 can deal with all that family life can throw at it. The Mazda CX-5 is also one of the best handling large SUVs, while its lively engine impresses with enough performance to haul you along fully loaded. Finally, relatively cheap finance deals and competitive running costs keep it affordable.”

POPULAR MUCH? Mazda sells more cars than ever after
Mazda Motor Corporation set another new best in the first nine months of the 201617 fiscal year, selling 1,162,000 vehicles worldwide – 17,000 more than the previous record established last year. The Mazda CX-3, CX-5 and Mazda MX-5 performed especially well in China who led growth among the regions (up 29% year-on-year to 227,000 units). Mazda posted global revenue of ¥2.35 trillion (£16.9 billion) between 1 April and 31 December. Aiming for stable and sustainable sales growth of some 50,000 units annually, Mazda plans to have the growth fuelled above all by the CX range. In its efforts to increase flexibility, CX-3 production began at the Hofu plant in Japan in December, and plans are proceeding to expand crossover capacity at Mazda’s Hiroshima facility as well over the course of the coming fiscal year. Crossovers sales are pegged at 39% of the worldwide total for the fiscal year, which ends on

nine months 31 March, up from just over one-third last year and only 12% five years ago. The figure should get a boost from the all-new CX-5, a new-generation compact SUV built according to Mazda’s humancentred design philosophy. It launches this month in Japan and will arrive in Europe by early summer. In another first, a clean diesel version is destined for North America later in 2017. Closely monitoring market developments and automobile demand around the world, Mazda is sticking to its global sales forecast of 1.55 million units for the current fiscal year– another new record. Mazda continues progress with its development of electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology for market introduction. The company is striving to combine these with internal combustion engine advancements to meet environmental regulations globally while helping dramatically reduce automobile accidents.
