cx Expansion Is the CX Range going to expand?

Two new CX releases will be occurring across the globe over the next two years, but the big question is - Will they be appearing in the UK? Here is what we know: CLICK HERE TO READ THIS ARTICLE ONLINE

MAZDA CX-9

to sell in the US, it will be constrained as well – sure we’d like to have more, but we’ll take small actions to increase capacity.” The CX-9 seven seats are spilt over three rows, with design and quality to rival the best in the market. Under the bonnet is a 274bhp fourcylinder engine, the first of Mazda’s Skyactiv units to feature turbocharging. However, there are still plenty of hurdles to overcome before Mazda could confirm the CX-9, as Guyton explained. “In this market, even if we took a reasonable Mazda share of that segment it would still be a pretty small number,” he said. “It’s a beautiful product, but the volume to make it right for Europe is quite small and the business case is quite difficult.”

The first shipment of the all-new Mazda CX-9 has arrived in Australia ahead of the countries launch in July. The seven-seat SUV is receiving record levels of enquiries so far, with a total of 55,000 and a further 13,000 asking for contact once the vehicle is in the showroom. But will the vehicle be coming to the UK? There has been some rumours that the CX-9 will be coming to Europe, but it would need a diesel engine. The vehicle would rival the likes of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Nissan X-Trail and Kia Sorento if it were to go on sale in the UK. Jeff Guyton, CEO of Mazda Motor Europe said “The world would like more CX models than we are able to produce. When the CX-9 really starts 2

MAZDA CX-4

The 2.0-litre model will produce 41.4mpg, with the 2.5-litre option producing 38.7mpg. The CX-4 is designed to be a more stylefocused stablemate to the CX-5, the vehicle will sit on the same chassis and underpinnings, but include a more style focused rear roofline. Kenichiro Saruwatari, Vice-President, European Research and Development has said the CX-4 currently has no plans for sale in Europe. Whilst he appreciates the vehicle will be popular in the continent, he believes the Powertrain will need to feature a more sporty performance to be a complete success. He finishes by saying the requirements in America, Europe and China are different, it takes time and workload to revise each model for each particular market.quite difficult.” Stray tuned with Norton Way Mazda for more information on these new models.

Mazda’s all new coupe/ SUV cross has been revealed at the Beijing Motor Show, but currently there are no plans for the sleek crossover to come to the UK. The design has been largely based on the Koeru concept that was seen in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, sharing the same muscular C-Pillar. In terms of dimensions the CX-4 is 4.6m long, 1.8m wide and 1.5m high, and is available in both front and all-wheel drive. Equipment will include smartphone connectivity and a suite of safety features. Front-wheel drive models will feature a 2.0-litre petrol 6-speed manual, compared to the 2.5-litre automatic petrol for the all-wheel drive variant.

MAZDA MX-5: TRULY N O R T O N WAY M A Z D A • I S S U E 2 0 • J U N 2 0 1 6

Mazda has now produced its one-millionth MX-5, with the landmark car being built at the Ujina Plant in Hiroshima on the 22nd April. The one millionth vehicle was produced 27 years after the very first iconic roadster, which still holds the Guinness World Record for the bestselling two-seater sports car of all time.

T

o celebrate this fantastic achievement, the one-millionth car will appear at events around the globe, including the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Also appearing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will be the MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars. This will be the first time the vehicles will be seen outside of North America having made their debut at the 2015 SEMA Tuning Show in Las Vegas. The Speedster and Spyder take the MX-5’s

lightweight fun-to-drive ethos further by focusing on open air driving and minimalist design. The Speedster has been pared back to bare essentials by including a wind deflector in place of a windscreen, and with carbon fibre doors and seats means it weighs just 943kg. On the other hand, the Spyder emphasises the joy and style of open-air motoring through the use of a bikini top roof, stunning Mercury Silver paint and full-grain leather interior. Which would you prefer to take on a costal trip this summer? 4

KODO: Soul of Motion design

The Mazda3 Hatchback or Fastback? Which side are you on? The Mazda3 comes in two amazing body styles, but which one do you prefer?

What are the main similarities? When viewed from the frontend the two variants are very much alike, this is largely down to both sharing the same KODO: Soul of Motion design language which draws inspiration from the graceful animals. Angular curves are prominent on both vehicles which are enhanced by the forward-leaning pivot and eye-catching front fascia.

Storage. The Fastback’s length means an increased storage capacity of up to 419 litres compared to the 364 litre boot of the Hatchback. This maybe a deciding factor for many, especially if they are planning on using the 5 seats. The Hatchback load area does gain to 1,263-litres with the seats down, this is not a possibility for the fastback.

What’s the visual difference? The most obvious difference between the Hatchback and Fastback can be found in their distinctive body shape. The hatchbacks curved roofline is topped off with a sporty spoiler which is a contrast to the fastbacks muscular tailgate. Both vehicles sit on the same 2.7 meter wheelbase, giving them the same tight turning circle.

Which engine offers the most fuel economy? Both vehicles offer incredible value for money and promising low running costs. Under the bonnet, the 120ps SKYACTIV-G petrol engine returns up to 55.4mpg combined, and emits only 119g/lm of CO2. The impressive 105ps SKYACTIV-D diesel engine is also a top choice, returning 74.3mpg combined and emitting only 99g/km of CO2.

What role does the SKYACTIV Technology play? Using SKYACTIV Technology has meant Mazda was able to re-define their vehicles from the ground up. This creates vehicles that are efficient, powerful and feature the world’s best compressions ratios in a mass production model.

Which is the fastest? The best performing engine on the Mazda3 Fastback is slightly quicker, powering from 0-62mpg in 8.8seconds, edging in front by only 0.1 seconds. Although the Hatchback’s top speed of 121mph beats many of its rivals, it’s not quite quick enough to take the fastback’s 123mph.

Drive safer with both variants Exciting advanced technology underpins both Mazda’s, with many being included as standard. Such as the MZD-Connect system, fitted to ensure a comfortable drive without distraction. A 7”colour touch-screen display is mounted to the head of your dashboard operating satellite navigation and infotainment functions at ease.
