NEW PEUGEOT 5008

A whole new dimension for SUVs Its name hasn't changed, but everything else has. The all-new Peugeot 5008 breaks new ground as a large seven-seater SUV in the C segment. The 2017 model is claimed to mix the practicality of an MPV with some off-road ability. It comes exclusively as a seven-seater. What it’s done instead is turn it into a seven-seat SUV – all the practicality of an MPV (or so it says) with none of the image.

blinds, trays on the back of the first-row seats, hooks and cup holders. Boot space can be maximised by removing the third-row seats. They weigh less than 11kg to make extraction easier.

Design

We first saw this kind of look on the smaller 3008, but the lines work miles better on the 19cm-longer 5008. And then there’s the interior – Peugeot calls it the i-Cockpit – with its twin eight and 12.3inch screens, tiny wheel and superb rake. Boot space is also said to be class-leading. Compared with the old car, the new 5008 has grown in length by 19cm and its wheelbase is 16.5cm longer, but it stands at an identical 1.64 metres tall with roof bars. Peugeot’s designers have given the car a more muscular-looking exterior by using an upright front grille and harder-edged rear and strong door lines to create very different styling from the outgoing model’s van-like silhouette. The new Peugeot 5008 is more than just an SUV. It stands out in the market with an innovative configuration: • Three matching, separate, folding seats in the second row, adjustable in length and inclination • Two removable, separate, folding seats in the third row. • The biggest boot capacity with 780 dm3 VDA 210 (1060 litres)

Technology and interior

There’s a significantly updated cabin, complete with Peugeot’s wraparound i-Cockpit, which adds a 12.3in TFT instrument display and 8.0in centre console touchscreen. As standard, every 5008 model comes with seven seats. All three rows of seats have length adjustability, five different angles of inclination and three-point Isofix anchor points. Rear passengers are given power sockets, 3

Like its predecessor, the 5008 is available at launch with a choice of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, but it gains a more potent rangetopping 2.0-litre diesel option. The smallest petrol, a 128bhp 1.2-litre, comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic. It’s joined by a 1.6-litre that produces 163bhp and is mated exclusively with the auto. The diesel range consists of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre engines making between 99bhp and 178bhp. The most potent powers the 5008 GT and comes with an auto gearbox only.

Price and on-sale date

The new model looks set to arrive in Britain in mid-February, with entry prices rising slightly from those of the outgoing car, which starts at £23,130. Peugeot says the increase is the result of the dropped base model and additional high-tech features. It means the 5008 will be pricier than the base version of a key rival, the X-Trail, which starts at £21,995. But the Peugeot's more striking appearance and long list of standard kit should help to justify the premium. TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE ONLINE

Future Technology We recently gave you glimpse into some of the planned future vehicles that Peugeot maybe be releasing, this time round we are going to have a look at the technology they may feature. HYbrid Air

Peugeot has committed to creating a vehicle that is capable of achieving 141mpg and for a price that is affordable for the vast majority of the public. The 2008 HYbrid Air is a concept car with the innovative technology which combines a petrol engine with a compressed air powertrain. These advanced technologies have been further explored in the 208 Hybrid FE ‘demonstrator’ which was developed in partnership with Total. The impressive result is due to optimised aerodynamic properties, weight reduction from extensive use of composite materials and polycarbonates, plus a petrol/electric drivetrain which combines the 3-cylinder engine and an automated gearbox with an electric motor and battery. This technology ensures low fuel consumption and radically reduces CO2 emissions.

Pure Blue Air Purification System

Pure Blue technology was developed for the EXALT concept car and ensures maximum comfort. The system works by purifying the interior of the car by diffusing bacteria and fungicides when the vehicle is stopped and empty. This means, it treats the air before it enters the cabin, eliminating volatile organic compounds and fine particles, meaning all occupants can travel in a pure and pleasant atmosphere.

E

arlier on this year the Peugeot 2008 DKR claimed the Dakar victory, Team Peugeot and Red Bull will be teaming up again in 2017 this time with the Peugeot 3008 DKR.

A technical challenge & designer dream

The all-new Dakar challenger will be based on Peugeot’s all-new 3008, and has been developed over the last eight months in Velizy, France. Despite the change in model the new DKR remains loyal to Peugeot’s two-wheel drive philosophy. Earlier this year, the 2008 DKR with the first two-wheel drive carto win the Dakar in 15 years, proving that you don’t necessarily need four wheel drive to conquer the toughest landscapes in the world. The aggressive lines of both the new Peugeot 3008 DKR and the corresponding road car are largely down to the work of Peugeot’s senior exterior designer, Sebastien Criquet. The Dakar car’s dimensions and features are governed by technical rules laid down by the sport’s governing body, but its inspiration is still very clear through a number of unique design cues.

Peugeot 3008 DKR improvements

Reliability. While the previous car was durable enough to win the Dakar this year and claim nine stages (including seven one-twos), in any competition machine there is always room to improve on reliability. Peugeot Sport’s engineers went through every aspect of the car in fine detail in order to refine the package still further, focussing both on mechanical strength and also complex electronic processes, such as engine management. Driveability. Huge steps were made forward in this area from the 2015 debut to 2016, but Peugeot Sport has now ensured that the car’s 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbodiesel engine is even more driveable for next year’s Dakar, delivering greater torque at lower revs. Suspension. This is one of the key elements to success on the Dakar, as it governs just how quickly the car can cover the ever-changing untrammelled terrain that is the hallmark of the Dakar, ranging from salt flats, to WRC-style gravel roads, to sand dunes. Air conditioning. With crews spending up to 12 hours a day inside the cars, subject to cockpit temperatures in excess of 60 degrees centigrade, the effect of air conditioning on human performance cannot be underestimated. Even though the drivers are super-fit athletes, the improved air conditioning should help them to perform at a higher level and get more out of the car. 6

“Our goal with this car was to take the weaker points of the existing car and make them stronger, while capitalising on all the existing strengths to improve them still further. There are also some new regulations, which we obviously needed to comply with.” - Team director Bruno Famin

BOXER VAN, NOW WITH BLUEHDI TECHNOLOGY

Peugeot is currently converting their large van segment to feature a range of Euro 6 engines. The Peugeot Boxer van will now be available with a range of 2.0-litre BlueHDi engines, designed and produced by the PSA group.

As well as the engine upgrades, Peugeot has extended the Boxer’s range of new, modern and efficient features, to make life easier for professionals and motorhome customers.

BlueHDi technology has now been used on Peugeot vehicles since 2013, treating up to 90% of NOx and 99.9% of event the finest particulates. The technology is largely considered the most effective on the market for treating emissions; it has the added advantage of optimising fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. 8

Luna Animal Rescue

In July, sadly Norton Way lost one of our long standing Sales executives Mr Roy Hurwitz. His wonderful personality, and laugh will be greatly missed by all of us here at Norton Way, and sadly this news, also came the fact that Roy left behind two beloved dogs- Teddy and Gypsy, both who needed to be rehomed. At our time of need, a fantastic local charity called Luna literally came to our rescue and helped get Teddy and Gypsy safe and comfortable. This Charity has worked closely with Roy’s family and friends to find new homes for the dogs, and provided the greatest comfort to us all, knowing they were ok.

ABOUT THE CHARITY

Luna Animal Rescue was founded by Louise Jest and Natalie Howe in October 2013. They had both been involved in rescue before and decided to start Luna to help the many UK dogs that find themselves needing to be re-homed. Great Britain is a nation of animal lovers but there are still many unwanted dogs and puppies being left in UK pounds and being euthanised every day, Luna are trying to make a difference by saving these poor dogs on death row and re-homing them as loving family pets. Luna are a voluntary non-profit organisation, with a non-destruct policy ( we will not put down a healthy well balanced

animal), all dogs that are re-homed through the charity have a lifetime of rescue backup, whether it is behavioural issues or a change of circumstances they offer help and guidance. All dogs are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, flea treated and vet checked.

THE CHARITY’S WORK

Luna Animal Rescue became a registered charity in October 2015, and are based in the South East of England. They work together to save dogs in UK pounds and from local people that need to re-home their pets for whatever reason. Norton Way have been raising money for Luna in honour of Roy’s memory, collecting over £510.00 for the Charity so far. We are also happy to let those who knew them that so far Gypsy and Teddy have adapted well and are doing ok!
