A LOOK INTO THE F
“We source our ideas from the emotional value customers expect fro strive not just to fulfil them, but to go an extra kilometre.” - Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Motor Co, Ltd.
2020 Vision Gran Turismo Concept Car From virtual to reality and back again. Answering a call from the makers of popular PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6, Nissan’s young designers created a dream car to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary. The first lucky ones to actually “drive” it? GT6 gamers, of course. So will a production version actually race up the Goodwood hill in 2020? That remains to be seen…

FUTURE
om an automobile and
Nissan have a reputation for shaping the future through concept vehicles, many of which are the basis of vehicles that we see go to production. Here are some of our favourite concepts:
SWAY
A glimpse of how Nissan’s cars of the future might look. Designed especially to appeal to European tastes, it is emotional, edgy and exciting. The Nissan Sway concept car has been designed to shake up the compact hatchback segment. With its swooping lines, striking nose, elegantly simple interior and bold use of sophisticated colours, this concept car is a daring and emotional statement of intent.
Lannia Concept
The Lannia concept car joins the growing family of China-focused models. It was designed and built by the Chinese for the Chinese market – and will ultimately be on sale around the world. It features an energetic, sleek and agile design that addresses the tastes and values of the current generation of young Chinese trendsetters.
IDX Nismo
The IDx NISMO draws its inspiration from Nissan’s racing vehicles of the past, distilling elements of these with various intriguing new details. The result is a car that is timeless and with its own distinctive sharp-edged character. CLICK HERE TO READ ONLINE

and zero fatalities on the road, Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility vision is designed to guide Nissan’s product and technology pipeline, anchoring critical company decisions around how cars are powered, how cars are driven, and how cars integrate into society. Breakthrough initiatives recently announced concerning electric vehicles and next generation battery technology include: • A future generation of electric vehicle batteries for the UK battery plant. • A major vehicle-to-grid trial in the UK in partnership with energy provider Enel that will see Nissan electric vehicles supplying the UK’s National Grid with an efficient and flexible source of energy. A trial of 100 vehicle-to-grid units will commence in the UK later this year. consumers save and make money. • A revolutionary new residential energy storage system called xStorage developed alongside Eaton, the global leaders in power management. • Confirmation that Nissan will integrate V2G technology and energy storage solutions into all of its major European offices by the end of 2017.
The farm is made up of 19,000 photo-voltaic panels, giving the manufacturer a 4.75MW facility. Now fully operational and is a major part of Nissan’s twin goals of zero emissions and zero fatalities. It has been installed alongside 10 wind turbines which already generates clean power. Colin Lawther, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Manufacturing, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in Europe, said: “Renewable energy is fundamental to Nissan’s vision for Intelligent Mobility. “We have built over 50,000 Nissan LEAFs in Europe, and the industry-leading new 250kmrange LEAF is now available. With 10 wind turbines already generating energy for our Sunderland plant, this new solar farm will further reduce the environmental impact of Nissan vehicles during their entire lifecycle.” Pursuing a goal of zero emission vehicles 4

Business charging point grant The Government currently provides discounts for domestic charging points but there is no such grant for businesses. This potential scheme would be a huge boost for both companies operating plug-in fleets and dealers selling EVs. Martell added the grant would be available via charging specialists. He explained: “It will be offered by a number of suppliers [and] we can guide people through the application – in fact, we can complete the application for them. We expect to do quite a large number of workplace units when such a grant is in place.”
The UK Government has set out plans to introduce a subsidy this July for businesses installing charging points at work premises. This is part of the Government’s plan to boost electric vehicle uptake by introducing the grant. Car news site, Auto Express understands a formal announcement will be in July. There is currently no confirmation on how much the grant will be but it’ll support companies wanting to set up charging points at offices and car parks. David Martell, CEO of charging point specialist Chargemaster, revealed: “We have been informed that there is likely to be a workplace charging grant established this summer by the government. “It hasn’t been decided exactly how much the grant will be, but certainly there will be support by the government putting in charging points in work premises.”

THE MAN WITH 40 PHONES
SYNCING YOUR PHONE IS VITAL TO UK BUYERS
Recent research has shown customers can love everything about a car, but won’t buy if it doesn’t pair with their smartphone. This news has led to a significant investment by Nissan, controlled by ‘the man with 40 phones’, Patrick Keenan, who ensures seamless connectivity with Nissan’s infotainment systems. Key findings: • 28% of new car buyers prioritise car connectivity over other features, such as fuel efficiency • 13% would not buy a car that’s not connected to the internet • 20% would switch to another car brand for better connectivity • That rises to 41% for drivers who spend more than 20 hours a week in their car
is always one step ahead of its competition, especially when it’s comes to computer tech. Based at Nissan’s European Technical Centre in Cranfield, UK, Patrick’s desk drawers are packed with dozens of phones, which he uses to develop and fine-tune connectivity. He makes and receives hundreds of test calls a day as he works on future Nissan vehicles. “My job is to make sure anyone who walks into a Nissan showroom anywhere in Europe doesn’t walk out again because a car they want to buy won’t pair with their phone,” said Patrick. Another part of Patrick’s teams work is with the Autonomous Drive technology. Outstanding connectivity and data integration are vital pieces of the jigsaw to ensure the vehicles are both safe and secure.
Patrick explained: “Today’s new cars have a lifecycle of five or six years before a new version is launched, but a mobile phone will only be on the market for less than two years before it’s replaced. Keeping cars and phones talking to each other is the crux of my job.” Patrick’s priority is to ensure that Nissan

THE ESSENTIAL
READ THE FULL CHILD SEAT BELT SAFETY GUIDE
CH IL D S E A T BE L T It was ‘Child Safety Week’ last month so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take you through some of the dos and don’ts of seat belt safety for children. minicabs- If a child seat isn’t available, children under the age of three must travel in the rear seats, but may be unrestrained.
All children must use the correct child car seat for their weight until they reach either 135cm or their 12th Birthday — whichever’s first According to Effectiveness of belt positioning booster seats: an updated assessment, “Using a child car seat reduces the risk of serious injury by 45% for children aged four to eight years old when compared with seat belt use alone.” If a child is not using the correct seat, the driver of the vehicle can be fined up to £500.
Kids under three aren’t allowed to travel in classic cars without seat belts Almost all Cars, Vans and Lorries have seat belts — with a few exceptions. Not all classic cars have seat belts. So if you’re lucky enough to own a priceless piece of automotive history, bad news: kids under three aren’t allowed to travel in your car. Children over three are good to go, but only in the back seats
Only EU-approved child seats can be used in the UK Legal child seats will have a label with a capital ‘E’ in the circle. If the label is not there you should get a new seat.
The driver of the car is responsible for ensuring that all passengers aged 12 and under are wearing their seat belts correctly However, passengers aged 14 and over are responsible for their own safety. According to research from Think! Road Safety, “Passengers aged 17-34 have the lowest seatbelt-wearing rates combined with the highest accident rate”, so even though passengers over 14 are technically “responsible”, it’s always a good idea to doublecheck. After all, you can never be too careful. Unless your child has a ‘Certificate of Exemption from Compulsory Seat Belt Wearing’ from a doctor, they must wear a seat belt No excuses! And last but not least, here’s a handy checklist for ensuring that a child’s seatbelt is secured correctly, courtesy of ROSPA: The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. • The belt should be worn as tight as possible, with no slack. • The lap belt should go over the pelvic region, not the stomach. • The diagonal strap should rest over the shoulder, not the neck. • Nothing should obstruct the smooth movement of the belt by trapping it.
Never use a rear-facing child car seat on a passenger seat where an active passenger airbag is fitted In the event of a crash, the airbag will expand at a rate of 160mph and cause severe injury or death due to the seat’s proximity. However the airbag can be left active for forward facing seats, but only if: • Car’s handbooks says it’s safe • You move the car’s seat as far back as possible. Only use a child seat if your car’s seat belt has a diagonal strap Research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that diagonal seat belts reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by approximately 50%, so don’t forget to buckle up. In case of emergency, children over the age of three can travel in the rear of a car using an adult seat belt. This does mean emergency and not a late school run. Lethworth spinning!
On the 24th June Norton Way Group held a fundraising day to support the British Paralympic Association, this was to help Nissan’s commitment to Paralympics GB on their road to Rio.
Nissan, who is amongst one of the brand within our Norton Way Group, is the Official Automotive partner of British Paralympic Association and as part of the Heartbeat of Britain campaign our day aimed to supercharge ParalympicsGB athletes in their preparation for the Rio 2016 Games. At the last Games, the support of the nation inspired ParalympicsGB to give the performance of their lives, helping to make the London 2012 Games their most successful yet. On the day we raised a total of £000.00 and these funds will help make the team the strongest it can be ahead of Rio 2016. Their success can achieve the BPA’s wider charitable vision to challenge perceptions and inspire a better world for disabled people.
