simply ferry people from point A to B, but the Nissan IDS Concept promises a very different vision of tomorrow. Even when the driver selects Piloted Drive and turns over driving to the vehicle, the car’s performance – from accelerating to braking to cornering – imitates the driver’s own style and preferences. In Manual Drive mode, the driver has control. The linear acceleration and cornering are pure and exhilarating. Yet behind the scenes, the Nissan IDS Concept continues to provide assistance. Sensors continually monitor conditions and assistance is available even while the driver is in control.
issan revealed a brand new concept on October 28th at the Tokyo Motor Show- The Nissan IDS Concept! The vehicle embodies Nissan’s future vision of autonomous driving and zero emission EVs. Presenting at the show, Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said: “Nissan’s forthcoming technologies will revolutionise the relationship between car and driver, and future mobility.” Nissan will once again be setting the standards of future automotive technology with the cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI). It will be amongst the leaders developing practical, real-world applications of autonomous drive technology. So join us in the excitement and let us innovate you and your family’s lives.

The Concept Even though it is a hatchback, the Nissan IDS Concept’s long wheelbase enables comfortable seating space for four adults. But the cabin becomes even more spacious when the driver selects Piloted Drive. In this mode, the steering wheel recedes into the centre of the instrument panel and a large flat screen comes out. aerodynamic drag (Cd). Positioning the tyres close to the corners of the body maximises interior space while enabling a wrap-around cabin design. Nissan selected large-diameter wheels for highperformance and sportiness, but used very thin 175-size tyres to minimise air and roll resistance.
Exterior design — communication that creates confidence and harmony The Nissan IDS Concept promotes confidence and a sense of harmony for those outside the car as well. Various exterior lights and displays convey to pedestrians and others the car’s awareness of its surroundings and signals its intentions. The car’s silver side body line, for example, is actually an LED that Nissan calls the Intention Indicator. This natural, harmonious system of communication signals a new future with cars.
Nissan’s targets – Zero traffic fatalities and zero emissions In order for our car-based society to be sustainable, complex issues ranging from sustainable energy supplies to climate change, air pollution and traffic safety must be addressed. At Nissan, we have set zero fatalities and zero emissions as aspirational targets in our mission to help create a sustainable car-based society. Over 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human error. Nissan IDS Concept’s extensive system of sensors and AI are designed to provide enhanced safety performance compared to a human driver.
Advanced aerodynamic performance for greater driving range The height of the full carbon fibre body was constrained to 1,380 mm, sharply minimising 3

LET’S N GET EVS ON THE M P
issan has joined forces with the green energy giant- Ecotricity in a bid to get the UK government to introduce official road signage for the UK’s growing number of standard and rapid EV charging points. Ecotricity are the perfect partner for Nissan with this campaign due to them operating Europe’s biggest and most comprehensive rapid charging networkthe Electric Highway. The problem is despite there being more than 9,000 EV charging points across the country, there is still no official, recognisable signage available to direct motorists to them. This is laughable considering some of the official signs we have, such as 140 different “migratory toad crossings” across the country. Nissan and Ecotricity are pushing the new UK Government to take action and raise awareness of the UK’s EV infrastructure by introducing universal symbols. They can then be used to designate the different types of EV charging points available in Britain, most notably standard and rapid chargers. The campaign will be calling on key influencers in the motoring and sustainability sector to share

their views on the UK’s electric vehicle charging network in order to encourage the Department for Transport and Office for Low Emission Vehicles to take action. Speaking at the campaign launch, Jim Wright, Managing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, explained: “At Nissan we believe that all electric driving offers a number of benefits to UK motorists and should be made accessible to all. That is why we have partnered with Ecotricity to call on the new Government to give electric vehicles the prominence they now deserve and introduce official signage for charging points across the UK.” Ecotricity founder Dale Vince said: “Both the cars and the infrastructure are in place to support the electric car revolution in Britain – there are Electric Highway pumps at almost every motorway services, while companies like Nissan are developing top quality electric cars.” Some Interesting facts about EVs and their drivers: • Electric Highway members have now driven over 15 million miles since the charging network’s inception in 2011 • Electric vehicles are currently growing at a rate of nearly covering 2 million miles a month and over 1,000 new registrations each month. • Nissan has sold more than 11,500 all electric Nissan LEAFs since the vehicle was launched in the UK • Across the world Nissan Leaf and e-NV200 drivers have covered more than one billion miles

NISSAN JUKE- FOLDED IN BRITAIN
CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE ON THE NISSAN JUKE GETTING ORIGAMI FOLDED
This month Nissan celebrated the Juke’s 5th anniversary and reaching an impressive market- leading sales total of over 700,000. To mark the occasion, British artist, Own Gildesleeve, visited the manufacturer to create a full- scale Origami Juke and the results are quite amazing! Owen took more than 200 hours and folded more than 2,000 pieces of paper to create the sculpture, which was a hand build replica model to the exact dimensions of the current Juke. This means the Origami Juke features the same bold design cues – such as the wheel fenders, lights and grille – that give the real-life model its distinctive character. Artist Owen Gildersleeve said: “This was a great project to work on – hard work but very rewarding. As a celebration piece it draws on so many influences, such as the origami focus inspired by Nissan’s Japanese roots.’ The Juke’s bold, standout styling started a whole new sector when it was released five years
ago- the ‘Compact Crossover’ was born. The Juke, is one of Nissan vehicles it builds at its UK plant in Sunderland. Since first deliveries began in October 2010, more than 150,000 Juke models have been sold in the UK alone, with over 700,000 total sales across Europe, making it the continent’s best-selling compact crossover. Darryl Scriven, Design Manager at Nissan’s Design Centre for Europe, said: “The first step of any car design involves putting pencil to paper. From that simple start, it’s a complex journey to production involving hundreds of skilled people, thousands of man-hours and millions in investment.’ It was rather fitting that this Origami Juke was revealed during ‘World Origami Days’, which were celebrated across the world between 24th October and 11th November.
