Italian football Nissan and AS Roma electrify Italian football Nissan and AS Roma agree to promote zero emission mobility together in Italy, with a focus on sustainability, climate and environment protection. As one of the most recognisable football clubs in Italy, AS Roma shares many of the same principles as Nissan when it comes to sustainable mobility and society. For more than 10 years Nissan has promoted zero emission mobility and hopes the agreement with the ‘Serie A’ team will help encourage electric vehicles and mobility in the city of Rome. Environment and climate protection is a topic very close to AS Roma’s heart and the club is proud to support Nissan – the global leader in zero-emission mobility – in a valuable initiative designed to raise awareness in the city and among its citizens. Over the duration of the agreement Nissan will promote its electric vehicles both at AS Roma’s Stadio Olimpico and at Trigoria AS Roma’s Training Centre. At the Stadium a LEAF will be on show in the AS Roma fan zone and a 7-seater e-NV200 Evalia will be used as shuttle bus. In Trigoria additional LEAF and Combi e-NV200 vehicles will be used for people and goods zero emission transport. 5

The record-breaking Nissan Juke done it again. This time the popul compact crossover has establish the world’s first ‘blind’ J-turn reco with the driver using only the car’ Intelligent Around View Monitor (A on-board camera technology for guidance.

Intelligent AVM is part of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision for a safer and more sustainable driving future. It’s also one of the key building blocks of Nissan’s move towards ProPilot, the brand’s autonomous driving technology. The first Nissan car in Europe to feature ProPilot will be revealed in the next financial year (2017). Paul Swift added: “Looking at the 360-degree view on the dashboard screen – rather than over my shoulder through the rear window – was strange at first, but I quickly adjusted. The AVM cameras gave me a clear view of the track so I was confident of staying within the lines.” The highly experienced stunt driver took on the challenge at the home of the Juke – Nissan Manufacturing UK in Sunderland – where more than 100,000 Jukes are produced every year. The Nissan Juke is no stranger to stunts and record attempts. The compact crossover already holds the record for completing the fastest mile on two wheels. Stewart Callegari, General Manager for Advanced Planning, Nissan Europe: “This stunt is the perfect demonstration of the Nissan brand promise – Innovation that Excites. That promise is all about developing technology to make drivers’ lives simpler and safer, and Around View Monitor does just that.” The Nissan Juke N-Vision special edition is on sale now at Norton Way Nissan and features Intelligent AVM as standard. Additional in-control technologies, including Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning, are also fitted.

Stuntman Paul Swift spun the car 180 degrees with all the windows blacked out, using only the Juke’s four exterior cameras to position himself. Amazingly, he equalled the existing ‘sighted’ record – turning the crossover from driving backwards to driving forwards in a space just 18cm longer than its bumper-to-bumper distance. Nissan’s Intelligent AVM system provides the driver with a 360-degree birds’ eye view of the car and its surroundings. The four camera images are digitally stitched together and displayed on the NissanConnect dashboard screen, making parking simpler and safer. Commenting on the world-first stunt, Paul Swift said: “I don’t recommend drivers try to park using AVM and a J-turn like I did, but I can really see how using the AVM technology in everyday driving situations would be a real benefit to Nissan customers.” Nissan Intelligent AVM also includes Moving Object Detection, which alerts the driver if something – for example, an animal or pedestrian – is close to the vehicle. This gives the driver enhanced awareness of their surroundings and improved peace of mind.

PROPILOT TO

NISSAN’S NEW AUTONOMOUS DRIVE ASSIST TECHNOLOGY, PROPILOT, COU Subsequent versions of the system are also planned that will bring progressively more advanced autonomous technology features to Nissan models over the next four years. The first version of ProPILOT, Traffic Jam Pilot, is to be featured in the new Qashqai, and will be able to control the car’s acceleration, braking and steering in single lane traffic and highway use. The second and third versions of ProPILOT called Highway Pilot and Intercity Pilot, are due to be released in 2018 and 2020. The former will allow vehicles to automatically switch lanes and overtake on motorways, while vehicles equipped with the third version will be able to drive autonomously in certain urban settings. “The second and third generations will use different kinds of sensors. The ProPILOT One uses cameras to identify traffic ahead of vehicles, there may be a software in the future, but these cameras cannot allow for more advanced autonomy like overtaking on motorways. Our product is quite different from Tesla’s. Tesla is [more] premium priced” said Takashi Shirakawa, senior vice president of Nissan Technical Centre in Europe. Shirakawa also confirmed ProPILOT will be featured across Nissan’s range. “We want to deploy ProPILOT One across the whole range of Nissan vehicles, but it depends on timing and costs.”

This includes the new Micra, which Shirakawa says could also see the technology in the future, as long as the cost can be justified: “Most Micra customers are cost conscious. Cost is a huge priority, so we need to look at how much European customers are willing to spend. But I believe, personally, that even Micra customers can pay for a £1,500 option in the UK market.” And while the technology will eventually be rolled out across the model range, Nissan also confirmed that its cars won’t be built with an ethically programmed system that will choose lives of passengers over pedestrians under certain situations. Maarten Sierhuis, Director of Nissan Research Centre, said: “We won’t build such a system. Our system will in all cases try to avoid a collision.” HERE FOR MORE  CLICK INFORMATION

Vrroooooooooooooooooooomm Nissan have added an extra engine option to its range. The new 175bhp 2.0-litre unit sits above the 128bhp 1.6-litre; order books are open now for 2017 delivery.

The 2.0-litre four cylinder diesel engine is an engine offered in other markets, but has been upgraded to meet Euro 6 standards. Vice President of Nissan Europe East, James Wright claimed that the addition is about offering “something richer” in the current SUV lineup as that’s what buyers are demanding. He cited the fact that over 40 per cent of X-Trails sold are top-spec Tekna grades and come fitted with four-wheel drive, therefore costing over £30,000. The next logical step, therefore, was to introduce a range-topping engine and boost sales further. The new engine serves up 380Nm of torque, which should boost the X-Trail’s popularity with those wishing to tow a caravan or horse box. That’s backed up by a towing limit of two tonnes for manual models, or 1,650kg for automatics. It’s available with either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The manual is 4WD only, while the CVT comes with a choice of 2WD or 4WD. It’s the first time an X-Trail has been available with an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. The 4WD manual manages 50.5mpg while emitting 153g/km of CO2. Switching to a 2WD automatic X-Trail improves emissions by 1g/km with identical economy, while a 4WD automatic offers up 47.1mpg and 162g/km. Order books are open now for the 2.0-litre diesel X-Trail, with prices starting at £29,095. The first cars will be delivered early next year.
