WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES?

ell it starts this year, with the introduction of the new 30kWh battery, which extends the miles per charge by more than 20%. February 2016, will also see new levels for the Plug - In Car Grant from the UK Government. This announcement, together with the ongoing infrastructure developments, should see the growth and wider deployment of electric technology continue. As the level of electric vehicle technology continues to increase, Nissan believes that this shift towards cleaner, more efficient zero emissions vehicles will contribute greatly in improving air quality and lowering noise levels. Nissan has already provided us with glimpses of their future with the Nissan IDS Concept and Nissan Teatro for Dayz, both of which plan to combine electric driving with autonomous driving. Other developments for the future include changing fuel stations. Nissan has partnered with innovative architects Foster + Partners. Their full plans will be released in March 2016, but it is sure to see developments in Wireless Vehicle Charging.

KIERON KEASLEY Kieron Keasley from the Norton Way Nissan Workshop recently qualified as a Vehicle Technician, after spending 3 years on Nissan’s Advanced Apprenticeship programme. His qualification is made up of a level 3 NVQ and level 3 technical certificate.

Kieron started his journey to becoming a technician back in 2012, where he started working for the group at our Dunstable Honda Branch. When Nissan opened he moved onto the Apprenticeship program, after having a built up a basic knowledge whilst working at Honda. The apprenticeship program involved spending 1 week periods at the Nissan Apprentice Training Centre in Doncaster, Yorkshire. At the centre Kieron was required to take part in practical & theory based training, and then apply the skills he gained to his work at Norton Way. Kieron has had the help of his on-site mentor, Jared Cooper, he assisted Kieron in developing his skills as a Technician, away from Doncaster. Kieron was grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Nissan programme, crediting the fact he got to work with new technology, current diagnostic equipment and acquiring an in - depth knowledge. He believed this was much more beneficial than a college course which usually involves older cars and working on range of manufacturers.

Kieron finally graduated in Sunderland, with The After Sales & Customer Quality Manager for Norton Way Nissan being there to support him. The graduation involved a tour of Nissan’s UK plant in Sunderland, followed by a ceremony in a nearby hotel. Michael Hunter said “Kieron has turned into an integral member of our team, he has shown fantastic determination over the last 3 years to succeed on the course, and it has been great to see him develop into a fully qualified vehicle technician.” Kieron is now part of a team of 6 fully qualified vehicle technicians at Norton Way Nissan, who are here for your servicing, MOTs, tyres and tuning needs. This is the first month of our new feature, which will keep you up to date with the latest information from our friends over at Stevenage Football Club. We have now been working with Stevenage FC for a number of years and are now going to start sharing with you their latest news every month.

"You need to be performing: you to get 7s, 8s, 9s out of 10 from every player on the pitch for your team to gel and to get results." Club Manager, Teddy Sheringham

The Christmas spell wasn’t kind for Stevenage FC, who failed to get a win in 4 matches, between the 19th December and the 2nd January. The club are now looking at putting this bad run of form behind them and push on up the league in 2016. They will be looking at recapturing some of their form they showed in November to early December. Club Manager, Teddy Sheringham comments on his team’s current form: “You need to be performing: you to get 7s, 8s, 9s out of 10 from every player on the pitch for your team to gel and to get results.” The club had a busy January transfer window, after needing to extend loans and sign new players due to the problems with an ongoing injury list. Highlights included extending left back Connor Ogilvie on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, he said “I was keen to stay so I am pleased to have got it sorted. I have loved it so far and want to see out the season here.” Conor and the rest of Stevenage FC new signings will look at helping push Stevenage FC on in the second half of the season. January also saw Tottenham Hotspurs under 21s side play at the Lamex stadium. One of the games was a 9 goal thriller,

with the young Tottenham side beating Chelsea 5-4. The game included a fantastic brace for England International Andros Townsend. Finally during December we ran a Stevenage Football Club social media competition. Fans had the opportunity to enter on Facebook for the change of winner a signed shirt or football. Boro are one of four League Two sides said to be keen on signing the Charlton Athletic striker, who has scored five goals in 28 appearances on loan at League One side Southend United this season. He was also with the Shrimpers last year, scoring against Boro in the regular league season and then playing against them in the League Two play-offs. Luton Town, Oxford United and Bristol Rovers are also interested in the front man, according to reports in the London press. Stevenage have already signed both Aaron O’Connor, from Forest Green Rovers, and Offrande Zanzala, from Derby County, on loan so far in January but are thought to want to bolster their attacking options further.
