Honda reach
100 million! Honda have officially reached the 100 million-unit milestone in cumulative global automobile production.
Honda began automobile production in 1963 with the production of the T360 mini-truck and the S500 sports car. A year later Honda employed all of the company’s production technologies and know-how and constructed the first Honda plant dedicated to automobile production in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture. The new plant began production of a further model, the iconic S600 roadster. Since that time, Honda has increased its annual production volume, enhancing its line up and exporting the brand to an ever wider range of countries. Honda’s current line-up in the UK focuses on global models such as the Jazz small hatchback and Civic family hatchback and estate. These cars are supplemented by the HR-V and CR-V SUVs, both global best-sellers in their respective segments along with the latest

incarnation of Honda’s supercar, the NSX. In 2016, Honda has 34 automobile production facilities on five continents. Takahiro Hachigo, President and CEO of Honda Motor, commented, “Thanks to the support from our customers around the world, Honda was able to deliver 100 million automobiles. The passion of our company founder who wanted to help people in their daily lives and pursue the joy of driving has been inherited by Honda associates as the original starting point of Honda automobile manufacturing. Striving to meet the next 100 million customers, Honda will continue delivering increasingly attractive products.”

RETURN OF THE LEGEND
Awarded ‘Bike of the year’ at AutoTrader Best Bike Awards 2016, the new Africa Twin packs an all-new 4-stroke 1000cc parallel twin engine. It has the muscle to take on extreme off-road environments, offers smooth comfort for long distance touring, and sprightly agility for the everyday commute. Whether it’s the dual headlights with their handsome looks and great visibility, or the range of rally paintwork to choose from, the new Africa Twin pays homage to the original with classic styling that still looks great today
UP AND DOWN THE GEARS
The standard manual version of the Africa Twin has a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox that uses the same shift-cam design found on the trusty CRF250R/450R – and is equipped with an assist slipper clutch. Coupled with a large 18.8 litre fuel tank and top fuel efficiency, it has a range of up to 248 miles. Enough to get where you wanted (or weren’t expecting) to go.
GRIP THE GROUND
Anti-locking Braking System (ABS) and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) provide a new level of advanced traction. The Africa Twin’s optional Anti-locking Braking System (ABS) stops the bike from skidding – keeping you in control when you have to brake hard. If the sensors detect a wheel lock, a series of valves use a pulsating braking sequence to quickly stop the bike – without losing traction.
TOTAL CONTROL
Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) provides a new level of advances traction. It senses an imminent loss of rear wheel traction, seamlessly reduces torque to boost grip and avoids any wheel spins. Two levels are available, and mode selection appears on the LCD display. If you really want to let loose, individually disable ABS or HSTC with just the push of a button.
LIGHTWEIGHT
The Africa Twin might look like an off-road powerhouse, but its engine is housed in a compact, lightweight steel frame that offers outstanding off-road performance, as well as agility for everyday use. Weighing just 212kg (CFR1000L Africa Twin ABS model, dry weight), it has minimal bodywork and a camshaft made from the same lightweight material as the Fireblade. Don’t miss your chance again – book your test ride today at Chiswick Honda to find out more.
