HONDA WINNING!
HONDA WINS OVERALL BIKE OF THE YEAR FROM MCN Honda’s MotoGP bike for the road, RC213V-S, has been named Overall Machine of the Year, at the prestigious MCN Awards. Demonstrating the breadth and depth of the Honda range, MCN’s judging panel also picked out the CB125F as best 125cc, Honda’s revamped CBR500R as the sub500 winner and named Africa Twin Best Adventure bike. RC213V-S was singled out as a bike like no other – a piece of HRC racing history and the closest possible a customer can come to owning and riding a MotoGP machine. Handbuilt at Honda’s Kumamoto factory, the bike was developed to match as closely as possible the dynamic performance of Marc Marquez’s championship-winning RC213V, with the minimum possible changes made to conform to regulations for roadgoing bikes. For Nick Campolucci, head of bikes at Honda, collecting the awards from MCN marked a high point in a successful year for Honda: “It’s easy to focus on the glamour and exclusivity of the RC213V-S, staggering piece of engineering that it is. However, the recognition of those other three bikes is hugely significant. “Africa Twin flew out of showrooms, when launched at the beginning of the year, topping the sales charts and it’s been a long time since a litre bike from Honda did that! It has proven itself equally capable off and on-road and that’s why awards like this are so satisfying. This recognition from MCN shows that Honda has lived up to its promise to deliver a worthy successor to the 3
original, legendary Africa Twin – a true all-rounder.” CB125F hit the market last year and, with a wide-barred, upright rider nod to the ‘streetfighter’ look of its CB siblings, the CB500F and CB650F, it added a touch of style to the user-friendly, tough, entry level attributes of its CBF125 predecessor – a bike that was the UK’s bestselling 125 for six years straight. The A-2 friendly CBR500R was updated for 2016, to widespread acclaim. At its launch, Motorcycle News reported that “every aspect comes together to create a bike that is incredibly easy to ride and surprisingly good fun.” “This haul of awards from MCN,” added Nick, “shows that there’s a first-rate Honda for every type of rider – the commuter, the new rider honing their skills, the adventure-seeker, collector and race fanatic.” And, with the new, eagerly anticipated Fireblade SP and SP2 just unveiled at INTERMOT - set to be on show to the UK public for the first time at Motorcycle Live, there’s more excitement to come! CBR1000RR FIREBLADE
X-ADV
The X-ADV is a new breed of motorcycle that continues Honda’s long tradition of finding innovative ways to create products that enhance and enrich its customers’ lifestyles. It mixes rugged SUV style, off-road appeal and premium specifications, thanks to a tough chassis, long travel suspension, four-piston radial-mount brakes and a torque-laden 745cc twin-cylinder engine driving through Dual Clutch Transmission*. The X-ADV is also equipped with a 5-level adjustable screen, underseat storage space for an off-road style helmet, hand guards, Rally-style instrument display, centre stand, and the Honda Smart Key system. Designed at Honda’s Rome R&D centre, its styling lines capture the essence of two-wheeled freedom in an exciting new form.
The CBR1000RR Fireblade joins the upgraded SP and new SP2 versions to complete a trio of Fireblades that mark 25 years since the celebrated machine re-wrote the rules of the Super Sport segment. Its relentless focus on handling and agility under the mantra of ‘Total Control’ continues, with 90% of main components revised for a 16kg weight reduction to a class-leading 195kg. Coupled with an 8kW top end power boost, it improves the new Fireblade’s power to weight ratio by 14%, to a level hitherto unseen in its history. For 2017, the Fireblade now moves into ‘Next Stage Total Control’, with a comprehensive electronic control package featuring a new gyroscopic ABS system, Honda Selectable Torque Control, Selectable Engine Brake and Power Selector. All these parameters can be precisely adjusted with the Riding Mode Select System inspired by the RC213V-S street legal version of Honda’s MotoGP machine.

CB650F
CBR650F
Also updated for 2017, with more pumpedup Super Sport style, is the CBR650F. Its redesigned fairing improves aerodynamic performance; styling is more aggressive and compact, with an overall look and feel redolent of the new 2017 CBR1000RR Fireblade. It shares a range of performance upgrades with the CB650F, from revised brakes, Showa Dual Bending Valve front fork, LED head and taillights to a more powerful engine - with a louder
The 4-cylinder naked CB650F continues the long Honda tradition of stylish middleweights with a highly-tuned balance between engine power and chassis handling. For 2017, it receives a range of updates that make it tougher and sharper, with a more aggressive streetfighter attitude. New intake and exhausts increase top end power by 3 kilowatts, with shorter gear ratios highlighting the increased performance through the mid-range. The engine note is stronger and louder, while the new Showa Dual Bending Valve front fork, upgraded brakes and a more forward riding position improve the handling. New stripped-back and aggressive styling lines put the engine completely on show, and full LED head and taillights add even more technical quality.

MOTORBIKE TIPS & RIDING IN THE DAR
1
Double-check your tyres in wet conditions
2
Wrap up
3
Watch out for deer
4
Use a trickle charger
5
Clean your callipers
If it starts raining cats and dogs, just remember: get a grip. Ensure your tires can handle wet weather.
Invest in a pair of warm wristlets, gloves, or pretty much anything you can get your hands on – or in. Heated grips are great. Fleeces are a must – no need for anything fancy, just warm.
There are more collisions with deer in autumn than any other time of the year, so keep your eyes peeled – especially at dawn and dusk.
Use a trickle charger, aka “optimiser”, to maintain your bike’s battery so it doesn’t run out of juice on a cold night.
Brake pad residue that builds up in wet weather can affect your stopping power, so ensure you clean your callipers regularly.

Safety first
The ending of autumn/ start of winter guarantees one thing: leaves. Lots and lots and lots of leaves. Which might be great for moody Insta-snaps, but not so great for grip. So look out on country roads..
Baby wipes are great for cleaning your lights when you’ve hit a patch of rain – and they’re just as good for your saddle, chrome and paintwork.
Black leathers. Stylish? Yes. Safe? Not so much. Due to shorter days, fog, rain, etc. in autumn and winter, motorcyclists are a lot less visible. So fix up, look sharp and wear a reflective jacket.
Last but not least, here are the top three rules for riding in adverse weather conditions, courtesy of Simon Carter, Motorcycle Sales Manager for Northwest Honda: “1) Maintain a longer braking distance; 2) stick to smoother lines when cornering; and 3) be soft on the throttle.” Remember: safety first.

more horsepower than... A horse The ‘mini-street figher’ packs a punch – 7,000rpm, 10.9 Nm/5,500rpm of torque and 9bhp. It could even outrun a jaguar (we wouldn’t advise to try this though)

% cheaper than a cat Believe it or not, the £2969 MSX125 is 97% cheaper than a cat! (Admittedly, the most expensive cat in the world, the Ashera, but still – technically cheaper than a cat.)
