WELCOME The excitement of the lights going down and the curtain rising on a performance on one of our stages is almost matched for me by the thrill and anticipation of sharing another vibrant and exciting new season with you all. As this brochure lands, we will be counting down the days until the opening of Matilda, a juggernaut of a show in every sense and the latest production to grace the stage courtesy of our fantastic artistic partner, the Royal Shakespeare Company. But the show is just a small part of this wonderful partnership, as we are also collaborating with the RSC on a major national initiative Shakespeare Nation – a two-year programme of activities in schools and communities across the region who would not normally engage with theatre. This is followed by Romeo & Juliet which has opened to incredible acclaim and is the latest new production from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, another long-standing Theatre Royal partner, and the first of two productions in this season as we also welcome back The Red Shoes in February. Partnerships are at the core of what we do on and off our three stages across Theatre Royal, Playhouse and Stage Two. Through our artistic programmes and extensive community work, we are embedding ourselves in the cultural community locally, regionally and nationally. It is truly inspiring to see these partnerships get stronger and stronger each year. This season sees return visits from other partners including National Theatre with A Taste of Honey, The Watermill Theatre with two more electric Shakespeare productions that are not-to-be-missed, as well as Rambert, Northern Ballet, Glyndebourne and the newest addition to our family of artistic partners, Welsh National Opera. And, of course, how can we forget the European Premiere of Acosta Danza’s new programme, Evolution, featuring Carlos Acosta dancing in the iconic title role in Christopher Bruce’s Rooster, and the last ever production from Richard Alston Dance Company. This season also features one of our most impressive and diverse arrays of musicals ever with Kinky Boots, the highly-anticipated Emilio and Gloria Estefan story, On Your Feet, musical murder mystery Curtains starring Jason Manford, We Will Rock You and, of course, the musical phenomenon Les Misérables. For drama-lovers we have two classic pieces of drama in A Woman Of No Importance directed by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre former Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole, and Dial M for Murder and a new stage adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel, The Lovely Bones. I hope you are as excited about this new season as I am and I cannot wait to see you all enjoy this this theatrical feast! Stephen Crocker Chief Executive

Can you ever get away with the perfect crime? A brand-new production of the blueprint for the modern thriller, Dial M for Murder is back.

Inspired by a true story, Made in Dagenham is a new British musical which opened at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End in 2014.

TV and stage favourite, Tom Chambers, (Top Hat, Strictly) stars as the charismatic and manipulative Tony Wendice, a jaded ex-tennis pro who has given it all up for his wife Margot. When he discovers she has been unfaithful his mind turns to revenge and the pursuit of the ‘perfect crime’.

Based on the 2010 film which received four BAFTA nominations including Outstanding British Film, the show takes us back to 1968 when the Ford sewing machinists walked out in protest against sexual discrimination, demanding equal pay which led to the 1970 Equal Pay Act.

Made famous by Alfred Hitchcock’s world-renowned film, the iconic Dial M for Murder will leave you spellbound as Tony becomes more tangled in the web of his own making. The ultimate masterclass in suspense is guaranteed to entwine you with its seat-gripping twists and turns.

With an inspirational story and a fabulous score, this is an uplifting musical comedy about friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what is right.

Dial M for Murder is the definitive seat gripping drama that is not to be missed!

Funny, touching and timeless, Made in Dagenham shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.

COMEDY JIMMY CARR: TERRIBLY FUNNY

ED BYRNE: IF I’M HONEST

Sunday 17 November, 8.00pm £10 – £30.50 Discounts available for Friends.

Tuesday 4 February, 8.00pm £10 – £26 Discounts available for Friends.

Jimmy’s brand new show contains jokes about all kinds of terrible things. Terrible things that might have affected you or people you know and love. But they’re just jokes - they are not the terrible things. Having political correctness at a comedy show is like having health and safety at a rodeo. Now you’ve been warned, buy a ticket.

New show from Ed Byrne as seen on Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, The Pilgrimage, Top Gear and QI.

BEN ELTON

MILTON JONES IN MILTON: IMPOSSIBLE

Wednesday 18 December, 7.30pm £10 – £30.50 Discounts available for Friends.

Thursday 9 April, 7.30pm £10 – £28.50 Discounts available for Friends.

More than 30 years ago, Ben Elton exploded into the national consciousness hosting Channel 4’s groundbreaking Saturday Live. Now, after a 15 year absence, the Godfather of modern stand-up returns to the medium he did so much to define. Back on the road with an all new stand-up show, Ben promises to try and make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.

One man. One Mission. Is it possible? No, not really.

SANDI TOKSVIG LIVE! NATIONAL TREVOR

ROSS NOBLE: HUMOURNOID

Tuesday 14 January, 7.30pm £10 – £26 Discounts available for Friends.

Monday 25 May, 8.00pm £10 – £27 Discounts available for Friends.

Sandi realises some people harbour an ambition to be a National Treasure but following a misunderstanding with a friend has decided instead to become a National Trevor – half misprint, half Danish comedian, novelist, actor and broadcaster. Expect tall stories, fascinatingly funny facts, really silly jokes, a quick fire Q&A and a quiz. Don’t expect tap-dancing, leotards or a forward roll.

What happens when pure comedy takes human form? What happens when a creature is created and bred to do stand up? Nobody knows because that isn’t a thing. What is a thing is Ross Noble doing a show. You can come and see it. This is it.

Join Ed as he takes a long hard look at himself and tries to decide if he has ANY traits that are worth passing on to his children. Age 16+

Milton reveals the truth about being a spy, before being given a disappointing new identity which forced him to appear on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo. Just gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning? Every man has his price. Sainsburys, where good food costs less.
